1.1.0
2011-09-20
With this version, we introduce in-app editing and word prediction with a 150,000 word dictionary. Create speaking, linking pages that never expire. Use the camera right in the cell or pull images from your saved image libraries. Use on-board text-to-speech for communication on the go, any time, anywhere. No internet connection or subscription is required. We believe everyone deserves to be heard!
This version includes 32 sample pages from our ChildPre, Child2, Adult1, PicSpeechMaker, and SpeechMaker page sets. Word prediction options include word learning and frequency of word usage.
1.0.2
2011-09-07
Several new features are introduced in v 1.0.2 including an onboard text-to-speech engine and a number of page management tools.
The onboard text-to-speech engine includes both male and female voices with adjustable rate, pitch, and variance. When enabled, words and paragraphs can be typed or pasted directly into the text buffer at the top of the user's communication page. This text can be used in conjunction with text generated by button presses on the user's AAC pages to generate quick and spontaneous communication. Conversely, the text in the text buffer (generated by any means) can be copied from the buffer and pasted into other applications such as Facebook, Notes, and Mail. This feature may be enabled and disabled via the Settings menu.
Merge, Replace, and Delete are page management functions which allow the user to add and remove pages from the device. Merge is used to add a selected subset of pages to an existing set. Any links to pages outside of the subset are preserved so that the merged pages will actively link to those pages that are already present on the device.
The Replace option provides the user with a means for erasing an existing set of pages and replacing them with a new, self-contained inclusive page set. Any links to pages outside of the selected set will be removed. This option is best if you plan to copy the page set from the app (through iTunes) to transfer it to your Mac, PC, and other devices.
You will be prompted to select either Merge or Replace when publishing via the Publish New and Unzip New tabs. The Publish New tab transfers pages directly to the device from the Alexicom server. Unzip New is used to publishes a set of pages that have been imported to the device through iTunes.
The ability to delete specific pages from the existing page set is also new with this release. When enabled, the user may press the Delete button in the upper right corner of the user's page list (Select a Page). This will shift the page list to the right and display radio buttons beside each of the page names. Toggle to select and deselect the pages to be deleted and to complete the operation, press the Delete button at the bottom of the page. This feature is enabled and disabled via Settings.
Together, these features allow the user to generate spontaneous communication and publish multi-lingual page sets and pages with custom audio content. Alexicom Tech provides free phone, email, and Skype support and will gladly explain any of these features in detail. You may also explore our collection of over 1,000 pre-made pages at http://www.alexicomtech.com/live.aspx (login required).
1.0.1
2011-02-16
Many new features are introduced in v 1.0.1 including scanning, enhanced visual and auditory feedback, and automatic home page loading.
New scanning options include sequential and row/column scanning, auto-scan and step-scan, auditory scanning and support for Bluetooth switches and direct touch input.
Cell highlighting has been improved with an adjustable frame width. Apple’s ‘bounce’ and ‘zoom’ screen animations are now disabled by default, but may be enabled for more advanced users. Auditory output now includes optional select and scan sounds.
Automatic home page loading, when enabled, takes the user straight to his or her home page upon starting the app. In this mode, the user has no access to publishing, unzipping, or settings. When the top navigation button is pressed, the user is immediately returned to the home page from whatever page the user is on. (Automatic page loading may be disabled again through the main iOS Settings page.)
Many thanks go to RJ Cooper for his generous feedback and guidance on scanning options.
