Описание

Do you miss your old darkroom or ever wanted to try one yourself?

Analogue is the first app where you truly go analog.
By developing your photos as one did in a real darkroom, you will learn to see and understand what makes a great photo.

DARKROOM
For the first time you will develop the negative in a real darkroom.
In a fun and intuitive way you will pick the strip that has the best time and contrast.
And just like a real darkroom, you can make parts of the image brighter and darker by blocking or adding more light to the image.

You will be presented in a very easy way with lots of tutorials on how to use the tools.

The images will only be in black and white (but you may tone them).

DARKROOM FEATURES
+ Develop either your images from your camera-roll or taken by the Large-Format camera
+ Only Black & White
+ Stripes - As in a real darkroom you'll have to find the best strip. It will be challenging, fun and very powerful
+ Crop / Rotate - Both crop and rotate the image in the same tool
+ Dodge - Make a selected part of the image brighter.
+ Burn - Make a selected part of the image darker
+ Blur - Enhance the background with some beautiful blurriness.
+ Tone - Tone the images with various strength. The toners that can be used are Selenium, Cyanotype and Sepia.
+ Layers - You can add as many effects as you want. Each effect will be treated as a layer that can be edited, deleted and changed its visibility.
+ Zoom - You can zoom the image ten times. This will make it really easy to make the detailed work.
+ OpenGL - Analogue uses OpenGL, the drawing is fast and very fluid.

CAMERA
By shooting with a large-format camera where the image is upside-down you will actually get more control over the image.
The camera is only manual and back in the old days you could not even zoom with the camera, you had to walk.

You will be forced to slow down the process and by doing so, your photographs will be so much better.

At first it may feel a bit odd to look at the upside-down image and it can even be a bit challanging to know if you should move the camera to the left or right when framing the image.
Sometimes you will even laugh at yourself, but the more you use it, the less you will even have to think about it.

MORE CAMERA-MODELS
Analogue has now added two more camera-models.
+ Medium-format which will produce a square image and just as the large-format camera it is manual.
+ Small-format which is a real basic point and shoot camera where you pretty much only shoot at what you see. Nothing to set up with, nor zoom.

CAMERA FEATURES
+ Manual - Just as in a real old analog camera, it is only manual
+ Shutter / ISO - You will set these individually
+ Focus - With a beautiful crafted loupe, you will get full control over the sharpness
+ Tilt / Shift - Just as a large-format camera you will be able to straight up any lines
+ 4x5" - The negative's size will be in the 4x5-ratio as the most popular large-format camera does

DIGITAL NEGATIVE
For the first time, you can produce real digital negatives for your darkroom.
Analogue will make it possible to print the images in 35-mm, 6x4.5, 6x6, 4x5" or 8x10" sizes.

EXAMPLES
Download free examples and view them in the darkroom to understand how to fully use the darkroom to its best.

SHARE
You can naturally share both the negatives and prints.
You can optimize the resolution to lots of social media's sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter

Dmitri R.,
The best film camera and darkroom for iOS
“Analogue” is a unique software. No one of the other photo software provided an interface of a real large (or medium) film format camera, like “Analogue”. This is as well true about a precise emulation of the processing of real film negatives in a real photo darkroom.

My review is common for “Analogue” and “Darkr”, the other photo software of the same developer. The only difference there is the price model: “Analogue” is fully payable, while “Darkr” has a free core with in-app purchases which unlock some advanced features.

When opening “Analogue”, you are invited to choose one of the 4 options:
- a 4x5” format camera;
- a 6x6 twin-lens reflex camera;
- a 24x36 point-and-shot camera;
- a digital darkroom, which emulates the processes of film development and printing.

This software is accompanied with detailed tutorials, which are available in various languages. To access the tutorials, click on the small gear in the right corner on bottom, then choose Tutorials in Settings that open.

1. The 4x5” format camera.
- It has a focusing screen (with a grid), in which the image is vertically reflected as should be in the focusing glass screen of a real large format film camera;
- Focusing spot looks as a magnifying glass, and can be moved along all the screen. It has both manual and auto focus options;
- Shutter speed and ISO are set up manually, and the chosen parameters are always visible for better control;
- The following 3 features are available via 3 small pictograms in the upper right corner:
(a) Film presets to emulate the most popular B&W photo films. I note that correct film presets are a problem in digital photography. For example, “FilmBorn” - another camera and darkroom emulation software - provides film presets which do not meet the real photo films (in couple with its “digital interface”, this is why I do not recommend “FilmBorn” for use). The film presets accessed in “Analogue” match the tonal and contrast look of the real B&W films very precise. This is a great advantage of “Analogue” along with “I Love Film” (of the same developer);
(b) The second pictogram opens a tilt-and-shift correction tool. Scrolling the image border, you are able to tilt/shift the image as in a real large format camera;
(c) The third pictogram allows to pre-install a red/green/yellow filter. This option is very useful when shooting foliage, dynamic sky and other scenes;
- After you shot the chosen frame, you are able to continue the photo session or to go to the darkroom (by clicking on the pictogram of the shot image in the left corner on bottom).

2. The 6x6 twin-lens reflex camera.
- It has a horizontally reflected viewfinder as should be in a real TLR camera;
- All other features are the same there as in the 4x5” camera except of the tilt/shift tool just because it is not presented in a real TLR camera.

3. The 24x36 point-and-shot camera is very simple. I would suggest to transform it into a pro-grade “digital rangefinder” camera like Leica or Contax (in the further versions of “Analogue”).

4. The darkroom. It is fantastic, because repeats the real photo darkroom process in detail:
- The images you shot are stored as real photo negatives placed on desk of a real light box. I never seen such a realistic representation of digital negatives before. Just select a desired negative then choose how to develop it;
- You can then apply the same B&W film presets as those in the camera application (just click on the last right button on bottom);
- The preview is possible in the form either a film negative or a printed paper positive;
- The pictogram Enlarger opens image editing tools, thus meaning the “digital printing” of the chosen negative;
- At first you are invited to choose one of the printed paper strips pre-generated from the chosen digital negative. This looks exact as the sample strips printed with a real photo enlarger. Once you chosen the right exposure strip, click on Ready: the editing tools become accessed;
- The cropping tool allows to change the image aspect ratio;
- The next tools allow to lighten/darken or blur both the entire image or any its fragment if drawing a mask (I like the masking option very much; it is highly professional);
- You can also tint the final image (but I did not find Platinum and Palladium which are very popular in B&W printing);
- In the end, you can export the “final print” to your device or everywhere as you choose on the export manager.

While working with “Analogue”, I felt the same great pleasure as working with a real large format film camera or a real Rolleiflex TLR camera. The digital darkroom is perfect in all its parts: I felt myself as in a real photo darkroom, but without smelling chemicals :-)

Meanwhile, besides all the above compliments “Analogue” has one drawback: it does export work into JPEG format only. JPEG is a compressed file format where neighbouring pixels are averaged. As a result JPEG images take a very little of the disc space, but have a huge loss of image quality. Also, JPEG images have a 8-bit depth. So they contain only visible details. While a photographer needs invisible details hidden in the “higher bits” for further editing: the hidden details appear in the image when lifting shadows or lowering highlights therein. This is why RAW negatives have 12 or 14-bit depth, while the edited work is usually exported into the 16-bit lossless TIF format (16-bit PNG is also allowed but it does not contain EXIF). Export into a 16-bit lossless format should be added.

“Analogue” is a unique software. With the aforementioned improvements, it could be my main photo camera and darkroom application. Surely any professional or advanced amateur photographer would say the same.

P.S. I also found that the exported JPEGs became about 1.5 times larger in the size (and their quality increased) after the last update of “Analogue”.

Thank you!
