This game operates as a safe and fun way for kids to practice their social communication skills through modules that require listening, watching, acting, speaking and singing. Levels are tailored to verbal ability, from sounds and short words to full sentences. A great resource for coaching nonverbal aspects of expression and emotion understanding. Also a great resource for encouraging speech in kids, and English language learning. Start with roaring along in the Dinosaur song, work up to using small phrases, and then move on to full sentences! Or, start with full sentences on verbal level 3, and act out emotions with increasing complexity.

Based on research conducted in the SMART lab at Ryerson University (smartlaboratory.org), this game utilizes research-supported methods of emotion mimicry to guide kids in their development of social communication skills. All young people can benefit from the game, and it is expected to be especially useful for people with autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing disorders, communication disorders, attention deficit disorder subtypes, and English language learners. Act and sing in the new camping scene. Six new scenes have been added - Camping Song, 1, 2, and 3, and Camping Spoken, 1, 2, and 3. Each level builds in verbal difficulty, starting with song which can be more accessible for kids working on verbal ability and emotional expression, and then branching over to speech after experience with song. Screen sizes have also been updated for iPhone 12.

Available movie scenes have been updated with new scenes including Film Noire and Thriller, as well as Gold Rush in three verbal levels. Be sure to save any movies you wish to keep before updating.

Welcome to Big Break 2.0! Big Break now has multiple verbal levels. Act out new scenes with just 1 word or sound, 2 words, or full sentences. Go to the new "Verbal Settings" screen to choose your verbal level. Big Break 2.0 also features new animations and scenes to enjoy. Emotion choices now have animated emojis so reading is not required to choose the right answer. Big Break is now also available for iPhone. Updates to screen sizes and to comply with Apple's new regulations have also been implemented.

Thanks for playing Big Break! New studios are now available with new scenes from your favourite Big Break actors! Now you can also use coins earned playing the game to buy new studios. You can purchase more coins via in-app purchases. We have also added a page with information about Big Break Camp, a kid's camp based around the game, and a page about the research behind Big Break.

If you'd like to limit access to in-app purchases, please disable the in-app purchase feature on your device. There is also a parental gate to enter the Big Break Store, so that kids are reminded to ask for permission before buying new coins.
