A new bug, unfortunately
There’s been a new problem recently with playing example sentences. When being clicked the first time, they simply don’t play at all, and when being clicked after the pronunciation of the word they go after, the same pronunciation of that very word is given instead of the example phrase. Hope you’ll manage to fix it.

I've tried many different dictionaries but Longman is definitely the best one. Must have! The only thing that gets annoying is the performance on iPhone 3G (it was OK when I bought it but after series of updates it has become working too slow).

Очень понравилось все, кроме работы со звуком.
Точнее так - по озвучиванию слов никаких замечаний нет.
Речь идет про озвучивание примеров.
Для минимизации места разработчики сделали подкачку через Интернет - и в этом-то и есть полная засада.
В среднем, после нажатия предложение прозвучит через 10-12 секунд.
Это никуда не годится!
Представьте, что вам нужно несколько раз подряд прослушать предложение - для тренировки восприятия речи на слух.
И прослушивание выглядит так:
- 1-2 секунды вы слушаете предложение;
- и по 10-12 секунд ждете, когда его очередной раз подкачают.
(да-да, все именно так плачевно - произнеся фразу программа сразу-же забывает, что только что эта фраза была в ее распоряжении. И если вы просите эту фразу произнести еще раз, то она ее еще раз загружает через Интернет).
Если сравнивать эту же программу с ней же самой, но только сделанной под обычный компьютер (у меня есть такая программа), то сравнение сильно не в пользу АйПэдной по нескольким пунктам.
Первый - это, как я сказал, звуковые файлы в Интернете.
Хотя размер программы уже около 600 МБ. Дополнительные файлы озвучки предложений добавили бы еще где-то 1,5 ГБ (так у меня на большом компьютере) - я бы предложил пользователю принимать решение закачивать эти файлы сразу к себе на АйПэд или постоянно их подтягивать из Интернета.
В дополнение к п.1 могу добавить, что в программе под большой компьютер сделана отличная работа по освоению произношения.
Почти любую фразу, которую вам дают прослушать, вы можете сами записать и сравнить свое произношение с эталонным.
Все просто, логично, удобно - почему этого не сделали в АйПадной версии? - поленились, наверное.
Второй - это тезаурусы - вещь весьма полезная для изучающих язык.
На взрослом компьютере ссылка на тезаурус идет со всех слов, которые в нем учавствуют.
В АйПэдной версии сделано странно.
Тезаурус упоминается только для того слова, которое идет первым в списке слов.
Наверное, это просто ошибка в программе.
Третий - это зря постоянно на полэкрана держится индексация слов для поиска. В вертикальном положении это уж совсем ни к чему.
Лучше убирать, как это делают во многих других словарях и оставлять только окошко поиска где-то наверху - ткнет в него пользователь, тогда и разворачивать индексную половину экрана.
Вкратце - это все.
Программу очень рекомендую - она, на самом деле, одна из лучших.
(не забывайте только, что она Англо-Английская!)

отличное приложение, как на маке так и на телефоне. Пользуюсь с 2011 года. Если изучаете английский язык, то просто необходимое дополнение, которое будет всегда под рукой.
