An audio program presented by Dr. Stuart McCalley, M.D., Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Yale University and head of the Sleep Disorder Center at Greenwich Hospital.
Stress is the primary cause of insomnia. To sleep better, learn how to counter the three main sources of stress: psychological tension (presented in the form of worry, anxiety, or frustration), muscle tension, and nervous system arousal. First, learn techniques for changing thoughts that contribute to worry or anxiety. Second, adapt relaxation strategies that will help to reduce muscle tension. And third, learn techniques for responding well to nervous system arousal, including deep breathing and mindfulness meditation.
