Developed by CACLER (Centre for Advancement of Chinese Language Education and Research), Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong, "mLangHKU" is a smartphone and tablet application that enables users to create personalized vocabulary cards for expanding their vocabulary and solving their conversational problems in their daily life.
This app supports a variety of language inputs, including Chinese (e.g. Cantonese and Mandarin), English, Urdu, Hindi, Nepalese, Tagalog, Japanese, German and French. With the available functions (e.g. photo taking, screen capturing and sound track recording, slide show), users may learn languages at the same time by creating their own set(s) of vocabulary cards with the written forms/phonetic transcriptions (e.g. pinyin), sounds, meanings and their own language notes.
Vocabulary cards created by the users are stored as flash cards. mLangHKU can be used for educational and research purposes. This version is restricted for personal use. For teachers interested in institutional trials, please sign up by emailing to the HKU mLang Research Team at
