Jirntalpa Karnti (Nyiyaparli Flora) is a collaborative project between the Nyiyaparli people and Roy Hill.
The project, at its heart, is an important ethnobotanical cultural heritage study documenting important cultural knowledge and showcasing much of the diverse flora that exists on Nyiyaparli Country and the surrounding Fortescue Marsh in the Eastern Pilbara region of Western Australia.
Today, 300 Nyiyaparli people live on Ngurrara (Country) which extends from the eastern Pilbara region of Western Australia to the Western Desert, maintaining cultural knowledge and their way of life.
In this app, we share some of this knowledge, explaining how Nyiyaparli people utilise different plants to create objects, heal illness, cook and maintain culture.
Jirntalpa Karnti has been published as a hard copy book which includes an augmented reality (AR) experience that brings selected marked images of Nyiyaparli Country, culture and flora to life by using this app.
