Schliden is a logic-based, number positioning puzzle. The puzzle starts out as a square grid with N rows. Each row contains the numbers 0 to N-1 but in random order. For example, a 4 X 4 square grid starts out with each row containing the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3 but in random order. The objective is to slide or shift the rows left or right until all the numbers in the counter diagonal are zeros. Each Schliden puzzle can have multiple solutions.

HOW TO PLAY:
Slide or shift any row in the grid to the left or to the right.
If you shift a row to the right by one step, all the numbers in the grid also increase by one, except for the numbers in the row being shifted. They remain constant during the shift.
If you shift a row to the left by one step, all the numbers in the grid also decrease by one, except for the numbers in the row being shifted. They remain constant during the shift.
The game is won when all the numbers in the secondary diagonal are zeros.

Take an example of a 4 X 4 square grid:
The puzzle starts off with each row containing the numbers [0, 1, 2, 3] but they are jumbled in a random order. You can select any row and shift it either left or right by as many steps as you wish.

Let us assume we have selected the first row which contains the numbers [0, 1, 2, 3]:

If for example you shift this row containing [0, 1, 2, 3] to the right by one step, the row rotates to become [3, 0, 1, 2] while the rest of the numbers in the grid increase by one but stay in place.

If, on the other hand, you instead shift that row containing [0, 1, 2, 3] to the left by one step, the row rotates to become [1, 2, 3, 0] while the rest of the numbers in the grid decrease by one but stay in place.

The row being rotated or shifted wraps around meaning the number at one edge moves to the other edge depending on the direction of the shift. The rest of the numbers which are decreasing or increasing also wrap around. For example, in this case a 3 will increase to become 0 or a 0 will decrease to become 3 depending on the direction of the shift.

Therefore, the row being rotated or shifted causes the other rows to increase or decrease in place depending on the direction of the shift.

This shifting or rotation of rows continues until all the numbers in the minor diagonal are zeros. The game has then been won.
