Talanoa Mai is an interactive learning resource for Oranga Tamariki staff to support their day to day work when engaging with Pacific children, young people and their families.
The app uses immersive technology to introduce users to Oranga Tamariki’s Pacific Strategy and Integrated Pacific framework, providing information on Pacific communities to help staff understand more about Pacific peoples’ unique cultural heritage and identity.
Interactive features within the app include pronunciation of Pacific words, maps with details of Pacific population in New Zealand and connection to Pacific national maps; common greetings and phrases, prayers and songs; proverbs, details of ceremonies; support with pronouncing and learning vowels and consonants and Va’aifetū (guardians and guardianship of stars) is Oranga Tamariki’s cultural practice tool that informs practice design, review, and workforce support to best serve the needs of Pacific families.
