Every healthy community has regular times when everyone comes together, whether it's your annual conference, your weekly church service, or your monthly book club. Talkbeat is a place for regular scheduled gatherings.

In an in-person gathering, the real magic happens in small private conversations. It's hard to really connect to people when everything you say is broadcast to a large audience. A Talkbeat gathering consists of multiple small private conversations.

Talkbeat makes it easy to stay in touch with the people you care about, without the awkwardness of broadcasting everything that's going on in your life to everyone you know.

In an in-person gathering, you can see which groups of people are talking, and overhear small parts of what is being said. This allows you to know which conversations you might want to join.

While Talkbeat conversations are private, you can choose to "publicly broadcast" a subset of the messages you send, allowing others to track the highlights of what you are talking about and know if they should drop in.

Gatherings are now with groups rather than individuals. This reduces the awkwardness of having to agree a frequency with which to meet with each individual person. Instead you show up at the meeting time, see who else is there, and talk 1:1 with the people you want to catch up with.

Talkbeat can now be used over email, as well as using the app. Connect to someone by sending them an email CC'd to [email protected], and Talkbeat will turn the email thread into a Talkbeat conversation, with messages also available in the app.

The Talkbeat App is still the best way to use Talkbeat - the app lets you easily choose pre-written updates to share with people, and makes it much easier to manage conversations with lots of people. However the ability to get started over email reduces the awkwardness of requiring someone to install a whole new app just to stay in touch with you.

One major consequence of this change is that messages are now bundled together into emails. Write several messages to the other user, and then send them all as a bundled email by clicking the "send" button.
