When Jesus invited people to take his yoke he was actually asking them to be his students. So often these words are explained in terms of their agricultural background but no reference is made to the study aspect that would have been probably uppermost in the mind of his listeners. Among the sages and their students at the time of Jesus it was accepted that to study Torah was to take the yoke of Torah.
In a book that pre dates Jesus we find an interesting reference to acquiring wisdom expressed in terms of putting ‘your neck under (her) yoke’ and letting ‘your soul receive instruction.’ (Ben Sira 51:23-28) The reference is obviously to a learning experience.
Hence ‘The Yoke’ is aimed at providing you with a rich online learning experience that is text-based, Christ-centred and God-glorifying.
