2020.5
2020-09-28
This is a big update and the final step for the transition to get rid of the left side menu.
With that, the iPad version gains a complete new user interface and look and feel.
The app now only consists of the map screen and every other screen (Stops, Routes, PDF Schedules) is now available as tabs at the bottom.
You can reach them much easier and faster when they're right below your thumb.
Additionally, you can rotate and use the app in landscape on bigger iPhones (Plus or Max devices).
As mentioned above, the iPad version has a complete new interface.
Moreover, the map is now more interactive and will react to the current overlay. Open a stop and it will zoom to the stop. Select a time and the map will zoom to that trip. Close the trip and the map zooms back to the stop.
Route Directions also got refinements, as well as many other small improvements and big fixes.
TL;DR:
- Left side menu is gone
- Landscape mode for iPhones bigger than 4,7"
- Better clustering of stops on the map
- Map reacts to the visible overlay
- Better display of directions from one location to another
- Many bug fixes
The next update will bring new features.
If you like this app, please consider a five star rating.

Small "quality-of-life" improvements
- Bus overlay shows more details, such as compass and distance to the bus, current heading of the bus, etc. and a button to relocate the bus on the map
- Bus overlay also updates itself if new data for that bus comes in
- Fixed background colors at multiple places
- New option in Settings to disable transparency on overlays, which will make them solid. Good for dark mode on OLED displays (true black).
- Fixed setting for Stops times ordered by Time or Route, which switched to Route on launch on its own
- Many performance issues fixed
- The menu overlay does not go over the statusbar anymore

2020.3

Minor bug fixes and performance improvements:
BUGFIX: It was difficult to tap anything on the map. That is fixed now.
BUGFIX: Setting "Show Only Upcoming Times" wasn't always respected.
BUGFIX: Pressing Done on the Schedule Data Update screen should not crash the app anymore.
NEW: Busses on the map now also display an arrow, which represents the current heading of the bus. The color still represents how many people are on the bus (green few, red many).
UI FIX: The background colors of the app should be more consistent now in light and dark mode.
2020.2
2020-02-12
Stability, bug fixes and performance improvements. Moreover, Stop Time Alarms are back.
In detail:
- If a new overlay is presented on the map, the previous overlay goes down and is hidden. Closing the new overlay will push the previous overlay up again. So only one overlay is visible at all times.
- Bugfix: PDF Schedules list were empty on first launch sometimes.
- NEW Stop time overlay: After pressing a stop time details button, a new stop time overlay will be presented with details about the stop, the route and scheduled time. If available also the estimated departure time.
- NEW On iOS 13, you can long press a stop time and a context menu will appear. There you will see details about the stop time, similar to the stop time overlay. Moreover, you'll have options, like setting an alarm.
- NEW Alarms: The stop time overlay also give the option to set an alarm for the scheduled time, so you get a push notification right before the scheduled time. You can select how many minutes prior you would like to get notified. You'll need to allow Notifications for this.
- On iOS 13, if you have multiple overlays open, you can close them all at once by long pressing the close button.
- NEW Hide menu: Settings has a new option to hide the menu. The app will work only on the map screen then. Without the menu, you'll have more space and a cleaner look on the map screen. Sooner or later, this will be the default. So you get a chance to see how it is.
- NEW: new interface for installing schedule data.
- NEW: in "More" you can "download and install schedule data manually" with one tap.
- BUGFIX: it was possible that schedule data was overwritten by bundled schedule data, which led to outdated schedule times.
- TabBar colors in red for light mode, but white for dark mode
- "More" tab icon shows badge when feedback or app update is available
2020.1
2020-01-22
This is a big one.
Routes and schedules are completely new.
Routes are now displayed on the map and you can even see which Routes are closest to you.
After selecting a route, all trips are listed and the map will show the trip with all its stops and times.
For a list of stop and times, you simply tap the details button of a trip.
Schedules now also have the Lines and Maps PDFs of a Route, besides to its known Schedule PDF.
The Map screen is basically all you need now, since it offers Stops, Routes, Schedules and More, which has options like Settings, Feedback, etc.
I left the menu in, so users can get used to the map screen and be comfortable with its new design. However, the menu will be removed when the time is right.
TL;DR: Here are all the changes:
Fixed: Times were not sorted correctly when you select a Stop and have the times listed by Route.
NEW: Tabs in Maps. Stops, Routes, Schedules and More is available on the map screen. You don't need the Menu basically.
NEW: Route overlay: After selecting a route, you have options to mark as favorite and see its PDFs.
NEW: Routes screen has Favorites and "Near By" tabs: The list can show you which Routes are currently close to you, by checking your current location and searching for current trips nearby. The favorites tab only displays favorite routes, similar to the Stops screen.
NEW: More: The More screen offers multiple options, such as About, Whats new, Help, Feedback, Settings, Schedule Data, etc.
NEW: Settings is rewritten and offers options to display stop times or route trips differently. You can also toggle "Show only upcoming times" there. More settings will be available soon.
NEW: Settings: All settings are synchronized with your iCloud account, just like your Favorites. If you have two iOS devices, have them side by side and change a setting on one device. It's like magic.
NEW: Schedules is rewritten as well. Offers the beloved PDF schedules, but also the Map and Line PDFs of each route, if available.
NEW: Schedules: PDFs are downloaded and stored as soon as you open them. No need to download them separately.
NEW: Schedules: When you have a PDF open, you can switch to Line or Map very quickly.
NEW: Stop overlay: You can now filter by routes. Only times of those filtered routes are displayed in the list.
NEW: Trip overlay: After selecting a stop time, the trip overlay will display all times of that trip. All past times will be gray and the time at the selected stop will be green.
NEW: Service alerts: Below each service alert is a link to the affected routes. Selecting a route will open the route screen.
I hope you'll like this update. If you do, please consider a five star rating. It helps a lot and motivates me to continue to work on this app. Thanks.

This update fixes one major crash on the map screen that multiple users are experiencing. I hope this will result in a much better user experience.
I also added a Help section in the menu. It will display multiple answers to frequently asked questioned. More helpful details will be added later.

This update includes multiple improvements regarding performance and schedules.
- I was able to fix one crash that many users were experiencing.
- Bus tracking status icon displays more details now (no busses available and user disabled)
- Selecting routes to track is simplified as well.
- In settings, you can see more details about the current schedule data, with options to delete, download and install manually.
- Some dark mode fixes
- Some UI changes (new compass)
Note: I fixed a major issue on my server, so the app should run better and more stable now, even on older versions.
Please make sure to use the latest iOS version. Thanks.

2019.5
2019-10-25
I focused again on optimizing memory usage. This version should use less RAM.
Moreover, the bus loader icon on the map and on the screen when selecting a stop has a status indicator and a progress ring.
The app downloads busses every minute and the progress ring indicates when the next download is.
The status icon simply displays green when everything is fine and busses are downloaded, but red when the download failed.
I hope this clears up some confusion.
The Stops screen has a search field again. Sorry it was missing.
Next, some cosmetic changes and quality of life improvements. Several minor bug fixes, too.
The latest PVTA schedule data is included as well.

2019.4
2019-10-09
This is mostly a performance update. The previous version was using too much memory, which caused crashes.
Now I got the time to dig deeper and optimize the app.
I also found a few places where dark mode support was missing. Fixed them. If you find more, please let me know via Feedback inside the app. Thanks.
Finally, I needed to make directions exclusive for Premium users and here is why:
Directions data is provided by Google. Unfortunately, this service is not free of charge. I would love to offer it for everyone, but it has been too expensive in the past and that forced me to the decision to make it Premium only. I hope you understand.
TL;DR:
- Performance improvements
- Fixed dark mode support
- Directions exclusive to Premium users. Sorry.
- Swift 5 migration complete

I heard you loud and clear and I understand that you liked the previous version the way it was.
Therefore, I am bringing back the old stop times list with clear times.
I'm sorry for the issues that this change caused and I hope you keep using this app.
Please let me know what else you would like to see in this app and also what you don't like.
I still want to make this the best bus tracking app near UMass!
Furthermore, please consider changing the 1 or 2 star reviews if you're happy with this new update.
List of changes:
- Selecting a stop will display all times sorted by date. You have the option to change it to the new style with grouped routes and times horizontally.
- Updated PVTA schedule data
2019.2

2019.2
- Critical bug fix: opening the time table for a stop could sometimes lead to a crash
- UI: The sheet to select a date was not optimized for dark mode
- UI: Selecting a date in the past on the time table for a stop lead to an empty list
- NEW: When displaying a trip on the map, each stop also displays the arrival time below its name
Thanks for all the feedback. I heard you loud and clear. The old form will come back and be integrated into the new interface.

2019.1:
This update is the beginning of a transition to a complete new modern design.
The map section is completely rewritten and looks and feels very similar to other Maps focused apps. It will soon be the only section of the app, but more on that later.
On the new map section you can search for stops or locations and get routes to that destination very quickly with a simple button press.
Long press on the map to get directions to that specific location.
Besides, stops nearby and favorites are displayed with stop times and real-time data below the search bar, so you'll see much quicker when your bus is coming at your closest bus stop.
Select a stop time to see the route the bus is taking and all buses on that route.
All other sections, like Routes, PDFs and Settings will be integrated into the new map screen as well through upcoming updates, so that the menu finally disappears.
On a technical note, the app is also transitioning to Swift and makes use of more efficient and modern code. There is still a lot to optimize, though.
The final form of the transition would have been version 5, but I wanted to give you a glimpse of what is coming and an early access to the new features. Therefore, I adopted a new modern way of version numbering and call this version 2019.1.
Furthermore, this update supports iOS 13 including dark mode.
More new iOS 13 features will be integrated in the upcoming updates as well.
Feedback is much appreciated and would help a lot. I want this app to be the best bus app near my beloved UMass :)
If you like this app, please rate it. It means a lot to me and high reviews keep me motivated to work on new features and fix stupid bugs.
TL;DR:
- Complete new Map screen
- Displays stop times of closest and favorite stops at a glance
- Directions to a stop or a location more user friendly
- Long press on map to get directions to that location
- Next features: Routes on the map
- Plan is to only have the Map screen. Everything else is integrated there. No more big long menu.
- iOS 13 support incl. dark mode

- Premium Subscription
From now on, in order to get premium features it will now require an In-App purchase yearly subscription.
All previous Premium users can still use all premium features, just as promised. You should not notice any difference. Simply "Restore Previous Purchases", in case you do.
So why subscription:
As you may know, I am working on this app in my free time and am really happy that so many people still use this app daily.
Unfortunately, the one time Premium purchase was not really helpful as it covered some costs only once.
I hope with this subscription, I am able to cover costs easier and spend even more time on this app.
