We Read Too is a directory of hundreds of picture, chapter, middle grade and young adult books written by authors of color featuring main characters of color. Whether you are a parent, librarian, teacher or student, We Read Too is the best resource for you to find diverse books for youth readers.

Once you download the app you can:
* Browse and search our directory of hundreds of title separated in the following categories: picture, chapter, middle grade and young adult books.
* View the details about each book.
* Share the book to any social media or messaging app or view it online.
* Suggest any title you think should be added to the directory, which will be moderated before it is added.

*The 17+ rating is because the app allows the user to go directly to Safari.

Thank you for downloading We Read Too. This version makes We Read Too available for the iPad! There is also now a favorites button on the book detail screen that allows you to save books to the favorites tab and you can view favorites by age category or all. If you use We Read Too on your iPhone and iPad your favorites will sync across devices as long as you are signed into iCloud via Settings on the device.

This version is a follow-up on the iOS 12 crash, unfortunately setting the package library that uses SwiftUI to optional did not fix the crash as expected, so this version has removed the library completely and added a weak flag in the Linker Flags in Build Settings.

This new version has support for Bookshop links. All the links in the app are being updated from Amazon to Bookshop and all the Bookshop affiliate proceeds will be donated to independent bookstores owned by people of color. This version also has the following fixes/updates: more advanced syncing and updating from CloudKit, a new button on the browsing screen to allow you to switch from ascending or descending order, adds a new "No Results Found" label for search, stores your last used sorting method so it doesn't get reset on a fresh launch as well as fixes the ability to dismiss the keyboard on the suggestion screen if you don't input any text and UI animations for pushing/popping the book detail view.

This update features a new design for We Read Too, the navigation is now in a tab bar instead of a side menu. On the home screen you now can sort the books by title, author or publication year. Pull to refresh is also supported on the home screen, but any new books added will be reloaded anytime you open the app. In the detail view, you can view the book in your browser of choice when you select the "View Online" button. The search is now a separate screen and you can filter your search by genre or all books. On the suggestion screen, you have to select one of the four genres given, this will help us ensure the suggestions sent are relevant to the content in the app. Dark mode is now supported!

There were several technical changes made in the app as well. Several third party apps were removed and now CloudKit and Core Data are being used for database and storage.

Fixed a bug that was causing the same link to be populated in the share sheet activity items. Now, only one option will show either Open in Safari or in Goodreads.

The app has been completely rewritten in Swift! Now access the directory as the first screen on launch with a side menu for easy access. We are now grabbing data on each book from Goodreads and storing it using Realm. We've also completely redesigned the user interface in order for a better user experience.

After Parse shut down, We Read Too's backend was switched to mLab with a Parse Server running on Heroku. The image files for the book covers were lost after Parse officially shut down a few weeks ago. With this new update, the images for the book covers are back.
