If I were to design an accent trainer it would be exactly like this…

This is exactly what I was looking for in an accent training app! It was years ago when I figured out that the KEY issue in practicing a foreign language is to ADJUST YOUR TONGUE— the tongue positions you’re so used to when speaking language A are usually VERY different from those of language B, and the tiniest misplace of the tongue will lead to an “off” sound of an “language-A-accent”— that’s because your tongue’s lingering around the “language A” position that it is shaped to as you grow up! I really like this app for it addresses the tongue-position-issue meticulously; it REALLY captures those little off-positions your tongue accidentally slips into and lets you know. I also really love several of its features like the one that allows you to put in your own text and practice its pronunciations, the bookmark feature also works amazing. In all— very satisfied; would love it more if the price was more accessible, though.

Corrects native speakers too 🥲

First of all you should know that one of the founders is from terrorist state russia (you can look them up). And to advertise Bold Voice on social media they use bloggers who openly work with russians (teaching them English as I see) encouraging them to go around their bank cards limitations. Russian bloody money are banned for a reason. So before you buy the subscription please think if you really want to support terrorists indirectly.

Secondary, this app corrects all native English speakers who tried it. Not on every word, but every person. Might be a little too demanding for people with heavy accents.

Thorough app and great company

This app is very thorough and it presents content progressively and in daily bite-sized quantities so that you don’t feel overwhelmed with material and so that training can develop into a habit.
I quite like that you get immediate feedback and tips on your pronunciation thanks to voice recording analysis and I like that there is a test that you can take and retake at future intervals to measure your progress. Furthermore, the people behind this app really care about their users and want to them to develop their English pronunciation so their lives can improve.

This is great for recognizing problems in my speech to make improvements in my communication, because people are too polite to point out personal deficiencies to your face.

I feel it helps to make marginal improvements over time, which will eventually help me improve greatly in my weakest area, verbal communication.

Ups and Downs

It’s really good for most sounds. They go in depth and give you great strategies to make them. There are many great tools like custom making words and sentences for yourself to practice and bookmarking confusing words that are really helpful.

However when it comes to the R sound this service is somewhat lacking. The explanation for the R sound is really confusion and borderline useless when it comes to making it with the technique given. The service also has no visuals which would help a lot for knowing how to place the tongue for certain sounds.
