Great Game
Only problem I have is that when my gifts drop, they are sometimes grey and I can't click on them. I have to close the app and reopen to be able to click on the gift. iPhone 12 ProMax

It’s okay, but not a big two competitor for chess apps
As an app where you can play chess and get some neat rewards it is fine. The learning part is where it just fails. It’s not that it’s bad. It’s just not guided at all. If you’re a strong player you might get some benefit from drilling them but you’re not going to learn anything. It’s gamified repetition with little to zero actual instruction. Because of that it kind of fails in what it promises. For an arcade included app it’s fine, if you’re an absolute beginner it won’t help you at all. If learning is your goal it’s 100% the wrong app. I would give it three stars but it actually functions very well, very smooth and I didn’t encounter any bugs. Lichess study and chessdotcoms overpriced premium plans are both miles beyond the learning capabilities of this app. Even with it being free I couldn’t recommend it to learners.

So, so many bugs
I would really like to rate this higher, but the bugs and glitches are hampering my enjoyment. In about 70 percent of the chess Academy lessons in which one is asked to pick the best move, I am given no choices from which to pick. In the event that the game does show the options, it never does so consistently throughout the game. Maybe I’ll see the options for move but not the next. Additionally, often when I have attempted to use a hint, none is forthcoming although one has been deducted from my total. If I am mistaken in expecting the options for the moves to appear in all the games in which game instructions state to pick the best move, then at the very least, the instructions are unclear and should be corrected.

Confusing
Playing regular chess is fine, I guess, but all this added stuff makes it super confusing on what you’re supposed to do.
I didn’t see anywhere that teaches you on how to play the game if you have zero experience with chess. The Chess Academy section just tells you to make checkmate in one or two moves, not actually helpful for learning how to play. There should be a section on what all the pieces are and how they can move. I can’t find that anywhere.

Almost good
This might get good, but right now it has problems that should be addressed. First is network issues. It’s often necessary to kill the app and restart it to re-establish a connection. Second, the game analysis tools are quite limited. Third, and this is the big one, the higher levels are teeming with cheaters. And because the devs have chosen to hide the opponent’s name, you can’t avoid a previously encountered cheater. I’m 2200 USCF and I’ll get a healthy advantage and then for the next 20 moves the opponent suddenly plays perfectly. It’s too frustrating. I’ll stick with lichess.

Everything in the chessboard collection should bee unlocked
This is a great game but since the players playing this version of the game have a subscription to Apple Arcade, everything in the chessboard collection should be unlocked because in the other version of the app you can get a subscription to unlock everything in the chessboard collection. That is why there are 4 stars instead of 5.

Bishop madness
I am new to chess, have only been playing for two months. So I was only playing AI on level 6 of 10. But, I was in a position where I could’ve one the game (I’m pretty sure), but the game locked my bishop, although—from what I understand of the game—my bishop had like 3 legal captures available. I researched for a long time if there was a rule or play I was unaware of, but nothing surfaced. So I’m thinking the AI cheats in this app.

Fun chess app.
I really enjoy the online play. And how you can play games one after another.
My only complaint is there are too many aborted games because people are trying to pad their rating. They should penalize people who abort games by docking them rating points every time they do it.

Bots Bots and more Bots
If you are ok with playing bots this is the app for you. Every opponent I've played when selecting play online vs live player all I get are bots. They all use the exact same opening. If they were real people the openings would vary. The chess academy is a joke. The computer generated moves are moves no one in their right mind would make. There are better chess apps out there.

I haven’t played since I was about 10… Well it’s been over 50 years since I’ve played and this has been a great way to relearn how to make some moves.
