Dawnbeat inherits the best part of the classic hardware samplers and takes it further by adding features only possible on a multi-touch device.
Create more natural patterns by tapping and swiping pads.
Focus on creativity, you don't need to select a tempo before hit record to finally play a pattern until you get the right take, just play and forget about to record! Dawnbeat is always recording!
Multi-touch and draggable pads:
- Pads are multi-touch, play a single pad with two fingers at the same time!
- Pads are individually configurable, allowing re-triggering when dragging for amazing fills, tone variations .
- Mute and Solo buttons for pads available.
- Mute groups.
Memorizer:
- DawnBeat is always recording pad events, you'll never miss a beat, play and experiment and when you hear something you like, it's already recorded! simply go to Memorizer and select the desired events.
Mixer:
- 4 assignable BUSSES and one MAIN BUS. Assign pads to busses, assign internal effects or AUV3 effects to busses.
- Mute and Solo buttons.
Polyphonic pads:
- Pads can be turned polyphonic, import a piano-like sample and play and sequence chords with a single pad.
MIDI IN and MIDI OUT:
- Trigger samples from a MIDI controller, play melodies from a MIDI piano.
- Sequence hardware drum machines and synths from Dawnbeat.
- Use Dawnbeat as an intermediary between a midi keyboard and a synth, save the sequences you are playing. Dawnbeat can save poliphonic sequences!

2ND Update - consistent improvements.
Apple won’t let me update my original review but I had to write a new review to talk about how great Dawnbeat is. It started off with promise and consistent updates make this app a sampler you can’t ignore. Bit by bit it’s been enticing me to step away from the Marsupial king and do more in DB. The only thing that’s bothering me right now (and maybe I’m just missing something) is there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to copy a sequence from one page to the next. The only way I can see to do it is go in to a sequence, select all, edit copy, go to a new sequence, edit past. It would be helpful if there was a sequence manager like the pad manager. Otherwise this app is so much fun and I get interesting grooves going instantly with it.
To developer: I know we can copy a sequence by dragging it. This seems to only work when copying a sequence to the same page. If I want to copy one for 16 to 32 and try to drag the sequence, it just freezes on the screen and often crashes the program.

Fun and powerful
I’ve used a lot of samplers and this one stands out for its very friendly, colorful and engaging interface. Every time I open it I go straight into a jam, and it feels very responsive. It does not have all of the features of some other more established samplers, but it has some that others do not such as loading AUv3 effects and instruments inside the app. MIDI in/out support works very well and it can be used with Ableton link with MIDI in and out from AUM, Xequence, and other apps with virtual MIDI support. It’s also received several new features recently and a reported bug was fixed very quickly so my support experience was excellent.

Super solid, only missing a couple of things
First off, this app is quite a bit better than you might think at first glance. The workflow for laying down a track from scratch is super fluid/seamless.
The only items I’ve noticed to be missing would be:
integration with AudioShare. Unless I’m missing something with my workflow on iOS, this is borderline mandatory. How else are you supposed to be able to preview sounds and upload into the app? Uploading from the files searcher doesn’t give you a way to listen to sounds before adding which is a huge flaw, AudioShare fills this void.
Second item would be integration with AUV instruments. The integration with AUV3 fx that already exists is a very nice pick up compared to say Koala, so this is already headed in the right direction!

Standing on its own
We all know it’s kinda hard to part with our beloved sampler that shall not be named because it’s Dawnbeats time to shine.
Dev made interesting choices right out of the gates and I’m have quite a bit of fun using it. I dig the aesthetic although I can see why it’s not for everybody. This is worth the price of admission and if the developer adds the usual suspects to the mix as well it could shape up to be quite the Sampler

Nice one!
Love it. You got something here. This is a lot of fun. It has almost everything you could ask for in a sampler/groove box app. Looking forward to seeing the improvements. My 3 wishes is for the record button to be visible while playing piano. Especially in landscape mode, “make auv3” would be nice if it was directly on the pads page, and for each sequence to have its own dedicated mutes. Haven’t tried it on the iPad yet but def excited and hopefully improvements are made to get functions into the fewest pages possible. At least for iPhone

My entire sample library is in AudioShare. I am unable to access AudioShare with Dawnbeat. Video (screen recording) audio import has also become critical to my iOS sampler workflow, and dawnbeat doesn’t have it.
Dawnbeat does not appear to support AuV3, or inter app audio. This makes the app an island. It’s like having a piece of hardware that has no midi/audio inputs or outputs.
The fx seem neat, and I like the ui, but without proper integration with existing iOS audio tools, it’s a chore to try to incorporate it into any kind of workflow. In its current state, it’s no match for koala.

Wow. Love this app
I downloaded on a whim because it looks like other pad apps but this is Much different. It is really a useful musical instrument. So many features. This actually passed Koala as my fave iOS sampling app. Very cool. It was feee but after playing with it for 15 min I instantly bought it to get full features. Also love that it’s a one time purchase instead of a subscription. Had to support this!!!

So Far So Good…
I love the fact of being able to use Auv3. I love the way the auto sampler separates the audio and drag and drop to the pads. That gives it such an easy way to setup samples to play a certain way. And be able to use auv3 effects is a plus. It’s like an sp404. Keep up the updates.
