Read what our actual users say:

"***** Best DBT app available!!!
Simply put, this is the most helpful DBT or CBT app available. I bought a new iPhone to be able to use it. DBT skills are priceless. I had tried every, other DBT and CBT app. This one follows the traditional DBT program exactly, and is the only Diary Card. Before I had this app, I'd seldom fill in my diary card. Now that I have it, I don't have to keep track of paper, and I rarely miss a day. I can fill in my Diary Card discreetly, from anywhere, anytime, and send it directly to my DBT coach. I no longer have to worry about someone coming across my Diary Cards. You can brush up on skills, use it for distress tolerance suggestions, tailor it to your needs, and even journal. I appreciate that I can add personal goals to my diary. Thank you for this app!" - iTunes US Review

"***** I am in IRL-DBT and this app is the perfect complement. Oh. I love that the app is so flexible, that you can make it kind of your own, and the layout is so nice, simple, yet beautiful. For me, a true life-saver! Genius! Without a doubt the best app in my IPhone... Get it now!" - iTunes Sweden Review

"***** Perfect! Worth the money!" - iTunes US Review

As an educated consumer, it's important to know to whom you're listening. DBT Diary Card was created by a Ph.D. psychologist trained directly by Dr. Marsha Linehan and at the Duke University Medical Center; we are experts in DBT, providing consultation to many in our community. And now we're giving it to you!

A DBT app can have 3 parts:

- A reference manual
- A behavior tracker
- A skills coach

DBT Diary Card has all 3 of these parts and utilizes the iOS platform in ways that the other apps available don't and can't.

+ PDF generation
+ Notification Pane support
+ Password protection
+ Advanced text editing
+ Media playback

What DBT Diary Card has to offer:

- Skills. LOTS of them. Every DBT skill you've ever heard about in a group is in here. It can be your quick reference to your skills so that you don't have to carry around your book or binder. Every skill is described in readable language to help you understand them easily and it's all just a quick tap away.

- Emotions. All the "basic" emotions are presented, again with descriptions and explanations a quick tap away.

- Behaviors. The most troublesome are pre-loaded.

- Coaching. If you know you need to use a skill but can't think of which one or can't remember how to choose, use the app. The coaching can be your virtual therapist.

- Complete customizability. Are you working on something different or do you have a different understanding of a particular skill or emotion? Change it. It's that easy. You are not wedded to the way it's presented in the app. It's all completely customizable.

- 911 skills. Put your emergency skills a tap away. You can call directly from the app, listen to your distress tolerance music, remember what apps help in the moment.

- Email. You can email your therapist your diary card on a weekly basis automatically, you can do it manually whenever you'd like or you can have the app remind you.

* Telephony features require an iPhone and voice service.

3.0
2016-01-14
Update: Some users are experiencing a white/grey screen on launching the updated app. The interface is hidden behind this screen and if you tap where you'd expect the UI to be, the app will function normally and you'll be able to see everything. It's just the main screen. I am working on an urgent fix for this bug. If your app is functioning normally with 2.9.1, I'd recommend staying on that version until I fix this problem.

More bug fixes. We had hoped to fix all the bugs in our previous update, but, alas, that didn't happen. This update address a hanging bug that occurred when adding a therapist from your contact list, launch freeze on iPhone 4/4S and a few other refinements. I appreciate all the patience you have had during these updates and I promised I haven't forgotten about all the enhancements. They are coming, I promise!
2.9.1
2015-10-06
I think I've finally gotten all the problematic bugs taken care of in this update. It was a long time coming and required quite a bit of work. My reviews have suffered greatly in the past few months and that's my fault. I hope this update gets the app back up to its great reviews.

Added iPhone 6/6+ support. Finally.
Bug fixes:

- fixed intermittent reminders issue
- updated codebase to 64-bit
- updated Dropbox backup
- fixed intermittent scale changing issue
2.9
2015-06-05
Numerous bug fixes. When you first launch the updated app, it may say "Updating database" for a little while. Please be patient during this process. If you've given the app a poor review because of these issues, please consider updating it! I've worked very hard to make sure that the app is the best on the market and I hope that these fixes restore that position!

- resolved the app hanging on contact addition
- changed backup/restore issue
- resolved changing reminder time issue
- fixed checkboxes in references
2.8.1

2.8
2014-10-09
This is an iOS 8 bug fix release. New and exciting features coming in a future update!

Users with iPads - if you're experiencing problems typing in notes fields, please use portrait orientation. I'm working on a fix right now but in the meantime I hope this workaround is acceptable. Sorry for the inconvenience!

IPhone 11 Issue
The app worked awesome on my previous IPhone. My new IPhone 11 Pro Max the notes are half off the screen and the button you push to enter notes sits on the first note making it difficult to use. I use the notes as my diary for the day so I can reference back to it during my therapy session. I tried to uninstall the app and re-install it but that didn’t fix it, I only lost all my saved information. Feeling frustrated.

After submitted my review an updated was released that fixed the note issues. This is by far the best DBT app I have found. The customization allows me to tailor it to what is being addressed and worked on whole turning off the targets I don’t need to track.

Update.... The IPhone 11 will not allow me to update/edit the time. This feature was handy when I remembered something from the previous day and wanted it to be in the correct order of events for that day.
hoorayberet00,
Needs a little work
First off, I absolutely love this app and recommend it highly. I just have a couple of items that I feel would greatly improve the app’s usefulness.

1.- When using the coaching feature, the text boxes don’t allow use of iPhone’s keyboard predictive text feature that I rely on for text input. I don’t know if there is any way to enable its use/functionality but I would really appreciate it as it would make using the coaching feature less cumbersome.
2.- It would mean a lot if there was a way to save the coaching feature text and come back to it. Or even get Siri to encourage a user to complete the coaching text. I don’t know if it’s my ADHD or my chronic pain that makes it hard to complete all of the coaching texts in one sitting. But I feel like I need to sometimes think over the question and I have lost my input and had to start over.
3.- Lastly, and I have no idea how this would be deployed…but I would love more integration with Siri. I don’t know if there’s a way to get a check-in about my overall mood or symptoms and based off that result to use whatever features.
4.- I would love for the time that I spend working on DBT skills to translate into the mindfulness health data in Apple’s Health app, for mindfulness related skills or activities that I’m doing with the app’s recommendation(s).

Thank you for all you do! I look forward to seeing this app evolve!

Frustrated
Some parts of the app are really helpful: keeping track of emotions and skills, and being able to edit them. However, (1) one of the selling points is emailing the diary card to your therapist, and this feature hasn’t worked, I could email it to my self either. I’ve been sending screenshots to my therapist instead, hence PART of my frustration. (2) I have emailed support twice on the matter without a response, it has been months. (3) I also have questions I want to ask about some of the features like trying to adjust the date on the diary card (since I’m doing it manually), but I can’t; (4) and the colored graphs look really cool except it’s not showing the second page or all the variables. In closing, the above issues aside, I like this app. I like adding time stamped notes with my thoughts and adjusting the categories throughout the day, and the daily alarm to complete it. I hope someone sees this and gets in contact with me and fixes the problems. Peace.
aeh85283,
I love this app!
I’ve been using this app on my iPhone since January, at the recommendation of my therapist. I love how detailed it is and the explanations of the different skills and targets. It’s very helpful when I’m not sure if and what skill I used. I especially like the notes section, which has now replaced my journal (which I only used sporadically).

I really like that I can send a weekly log to my therapist and we can talk about whatever issues came up for me during the previous week. I used to forget sometimes a particular negative thought or urge, but now it’s all there in the diary card for us to discuss.

Even though I’ve finished my year-long DBT class, I’m reminded daily to use the skills I learned and to reacquaint myself with ones I’ve forgotten.
SameehRose,
Dear Developer/Therapist who created this app,
I get that app development is not your day job. I get that you created something that you thought would be (and is!) helpful. But now things are breaking within the app and you’ve either decided to do nothing or have completely forgotten about us altogether. Or maybe you know we’re frustrated but don’t know how to fix the litany of bugs in your app. That’s understandable. But we did pay for this app, and therefore a certain standard of upkeep is required. If you are not up to that task, I suggest issuing us all refunds and making this a free app. If you aren’t willing to issue refunds and can’t fix the bugs, perhaps hire a developer short-term who can. As it stands, we paid for something that doesn’t fully work, and that is unacceptable.
The Bob Loblaw Law Blog,
Don’t buy!
I wish I could get my money back. I’m currently in a DBT class using the workbook written by Marsha Linehan, and this app is missing some crucial skills listed in her manual. This is a problem because anxiety and distress cause cognitive problems for many people. When I’m in a crisis, I don’t want to have to root around to find the skills I need.
Also, DBT uses acronyms for a reason—they help you access information you have retained when your cognitive faculties are diminished. This app does not include them. For example, the Distress Tolerance acronyms are not used, even if the ideas are there.
I’m guessing the app does not match up exactly because the developer would not be able to charge for it (or charge so much!). I want my money back. I think it’s predatory to charge so much for something that takes a clinically- and time-tested set of skills and information, waters it down so you can’t be sued for selling it, and targets an audience that is likely feeling some level of distress or desperation.
LB Army Girl,
5STAR MINUS 2
So this application is wonderful, I’m a disabled US Army Vet and this app was recommended to me from my one on one therapist and my PTSD group therapy. It’s full of all the information covered in our text and when it’s time to email my DBT Card to my therapist THERE lies the problem. The email option DOES NOT work. I don’t care it’s only $5 for the app, my money, my time. Physically Im not always able to use my hands fully and I use a lot of Dragon Speech to Text to help me get schoolwork done. It’s a huge imposition to try and screenshot all the pages, print them to scan, only to EMAIL😞The up and down honestly aggravates my injuries and as I await a much needed surgery on my limbs, this COVID crap has everything canceled so the convenience of being able to EMAIL the PDF would be a FANTASTIC 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Autumn Capurso,
Glitchy
Been using this app for awhile, everything is okay at best. Originally when I downloaded it years ago there were no other DBT apps out there. Now, there’s tons, and most of them are free. I paid for this one.
A few things I don’t like: this app resets your previous data from diary cards when you try and customize or fix a target behavior or skill, instead of storing the old data as separate.
Also, it won’t let me add my therapists email for some reason. Her email works until I type the “s” at the end and then I can’t hit the save button.
If you have the money, pay for it. Years ago this was my only option for doing a DBT diary card on my phone. But now, there’s lots of free options out there, I recommend you try a different app.
Feral_Werewolf,
Is Anyone There?
Hello,
I am a person in therapy, and my therapist has had me using this app for about a year now and it’s been pretty good so far. Everyone at my therapist’s practice uses this app, and I know my therapist has come to rely on it. That being said, after the update to IOS 16, I can no longer load the chart feature which is the only way for my therapist and I to really look at how my week’s been. The support email is defunct, and this app hasn’t been updated in 2 years, so I’m just leaving this review to see if anyone’s still paying attention, because I’d love for this app to get fixed so my therapist, her practice, and I don’t have to try to find a replacement.
Loved it so far, would love to keep using it,
Sage
Sct1968,
This App no longer works.
Check it out for yourself by using the app developer link here on the App Store page and you’ll find that it goes to a website that is no longer owned and so there is certainly no support. The raving review that you read when you start to look at this apps photos of iTunes users reviews is actually MY OWN REVIEW! from many years ago and I urge everyone to not buy this! You will be wasting your money as this app no longer works has no support whatsoever. I wasn’t shocked when I hit the button to write a review that I was presented with a blank page as if I had never given an opinion in about my purchase. I feel that this is very deceptive and Apple should address this immediately.
