Dithr lets you relive the glory days of 1980s and ’90s computer graphics by snapping photos and videos using common pixel patterns and color palettes of that era.
Modern screens and printers can reproduce millions of colors, making for mostly smooth display of colorful images. But in the early PC days, only a few colors at a time could be rendered, creating the need for color-reduction techniques to get the best results out of limited technology. “Dithering” is an umbrella term for various methods of simulating intermediate colors by sprinkling dots of “pure” colors in different patterns.

Can’t import videos
Cool concept, but deleted the app in about a minute as it won’t work with animated gifs or import videos from the camera roll.

Good when it works, which is almost never
95% of the time, this app crashes when I try to select a photo from my photo roll. Really disappointing.

Pixely filters that are a ton of fun to play with
I've never been a big user of filters in other apps, but Dithr is in a league of its own. I was lucky enough to be a beta tester for the app, and it didn't take long before I found myself taking pictures and videos of mundane, everyday objects (radio towers, ceiling fans, and even plain white walls), just to see what wild colors and gradients I could get Dithr to produce.
Between the filters, color palettes, and resolution slider, there are plenty of options to play with, and the in-app purchase to shoot Dithr'd video is totally worth it. Dithr's effects can range from subtle to full-on 90s computer game. And I am an especially big fan of the color callout feature, where I can highlight a bright color in an image and turn everything else to black and white.

Best dithering app!
This app is the best tool I have ever used for dithering images on the go. It works flawlessly; the images produced look like they walked right out of 1992. Just incredible. The full version lets you save video and is only $1.99. There are no adds or dumb pop-ups or anything. If you want to dither, don't delay in downloading this app. Get it!
