Karen about my Cookies,
Great Device but unhappy with the App Updates
First: I love the pod. I have the 2 and have been using it for about a year. It has been great for counteracting the effects of inclement weather in an old house without AC. However, recent updates have increased connectivity issues with the hub. I’m repairing 1-2 times per month now. This was not the case before. Moreover, the new UX on the app is difficult to read; it feels very chaotic. I can’t seem to edit my waking and sleeping times. I track my sleep with two other pieces of tech and often used to synchronize them when there were discrepancies. Now I feel like I’m reliant on an app that doesn’t always get it right, is difficult to read and review at a glance in the morning, and often knocks out the hub. I love the device but miss past iterations of the app. Please don’t overcomplicate what was once an elegant user experience.
tellingtruth911,
Correlation is not causation
I found that the app is a little buggy and definitely less consistent than I’d like it to be. First, the app loses connection with the pod frequently. Second, the sleep analytics don’t tell me much. I get a perfect sleep score because I didn’t get up to pee and didn’t have many “minutes out of bed”. But I’m reality, I slept terrible, and I’m tired and groggy. Fitbit and an app on the phone that I used to use were SO much better. They could tell me how many minutes I was in each phase of sleep, so I could say. I didn’t drink last night, and I had 20min more in Deep Sleep. Also, Eight Sleep changed their prices on their analytics package and didn’t tell people. I was paying 30+/mo and there were lower options. Now they have 8/mo and 20/mo options. Yet then never passes than along to me. My sister had to tell me. Also, I’ve been trying to cancel my membership for 3pm this because the analytics don’t make sense, and their team keeps charging me. Buyers please beware. I like the unit, but they are poor in the sleep analytics and shady in practice on the membership fee side.
Curt J,
If you want a judgmental app to help you sleep, this is for you
We’ve used eight sleep for about 1 year. The pod itself is fantastic and really helps my wife and me sleep better. We put the pod on our tempurpedic and love it. On the other hand, the app has gotten steadily worse: it struggles to connect to the pod, takes a LONG time to update, and as of a couple months ago, loves to judge my sleep habits (harshly), even when they’re out of my control. I can really live without “pay attention!” in any app, especially when I’m sick and not sleeping well, or got home late due to travel, or had to wake early for a meeting. It also tries to give you tips (eg “was something keeping you up? Your resting hear rate dropped late”), which is the least useful feedback possible, as I’m not really sure how I can control my sleeping heart rate. If the app stopped trying to be insightful, gave me sleep metrics, and passed the data to HealthKit it’d be enough. I can live without an app that tries to judge me to better sleep.
longhornem,
Awful app, amazing product
My husband and I adore our Eight Sleep. We have had it for over a year and tell everyone about it.

But this app is horrendous. The notification says I can just press and hold the banner notification to snooze or dismiss the wake up alarm. This was supposedly added in the version 5.3.3 update but has not worked for me a single time. I press and hold the notification, select snooze, nothing happens, and then the annoying alarm starts. Also, it used to be that I could go into the app and add snooze cycles or dismiss BEFORE the vibration started. I still can occasionally do this, but it’s not an option I can actually find in the app - it just randomly will pop up. I have NEVER written a review for an app in 14 years of having an iPhone but I had to write this review because these features that supposedly exist do not work and it makes me start every single day in a bad and annoyed mood. Eight Sleep, PLEASE for the love of all that is holy, FIX the snooze and dismiss functionalities in this godforsaken app.

So Close, But Yet So Far
I'm stuck between 3 and 4 stars as the one thing I wish this app did better was to continue to show the history of settings. Of course I'm meaning the temperature settings in previous nights, but also being able to look back in detail at the graph of sleep from previous nights. Sure, you can see the shape of the night, but you can't see the times, or see the times of the wake events etc.

I also think the system of adding tags to the day should be expanded and searchable. At the moment, I don't even see where the tags are located in the app, so what's the point of adding them at the end of each night?

Seems like small things, but for how much money investing in this system is, I'd like to have full view of all my data in order to experiment and make changes to improve sleep quality.
Redheadjman,
Works great when it’s connected to the mothership.
Love my eight sleep pod 3 cover when it is connected. It will it not cool unless connected to eight sleeps servers. I’ve asked why numerous times in the middle of the night with tech support and the answer is: “that’s the way it’s designed” and “we’ll relay your concerns to engineering”. That wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t happen at least once a month - in the middle of the night. And, it wouldn’t be so bad if you didn’t have to re-pair the hub each time, first over Bluetooth (why the hub couldn’t just be connected to the app with only Bluetooth in the first place is beyond me), then to Wi-Fi next (which it can’t seem to store my Wi-Fi SSID and password so it has to search for all available wi-fi router in the neighborhood first, then I put in my wi-fi password every. Single. Time. Then it’s great again for 5 minutes to 30 days. I feel like a lab rat in an experiment and my sleep data is more important to eight sleep than my health is.
jmg2012,
Love the pod itself, the app need a lot of work
The pod has been amazing. The app was great until the update a few months ago. Since then, almost nightly the app loses connection. The autopilot with suggestions based on weather we previously had, are no longer there. It was great when it said “it’s 10 degrees colder tonight, here’s the recommended changes”. you’d think with the new update it would still do that or do it automatically with autopilot, but no. Bring back the outside and and ambient temperature information. Or acknowledge that if it’s is 40 degrees one night and I had it set to 2 or 3, then the next night is -10, I’m probably gonna want my bed a bit warmer. The sleep metrics are nice, but I primarily want reliable temperature control, and the latter is impossible when it loses connection at 2am and I wake up freezing and can’t adjust the temperature without getting out of bed to reboot the tower. Never had any of these issues before the app updated.
Triathleteguy,
Major problems never solved
Eight sleep refuses to improve on their hardware & software. I’ve had gen 1 and gen 2 versions. Owner for 3 years. If you sleep hot like me these types of beds are amazing.

But eight sleep has major structural issues they refuse to solve.

The current version of the app is very slow to respond and buggie.

I’ve had to send back two towers and had one water leak that required a full new setup, tower, pad and mattress.

My replacement pad was defective and troubleshooting took weeks. They kept sending me new pod/towers.

They are so desperate for the sleep metrics they won’t change how to product works. The device looses connection to their servers on a regular basis.

Eight sleep is totally useless without a connection to their servers.

Seriously 8Sleep engineers? At 2am I wake up cold and I can’t change the heat because of an internet issue ?

That makes me get up find extra blankets and now I can’t go back to sleep

Make no mistake in my opinion this the real product for eight sleep, our sleep metrics.

They need to build a stand alone remote not just and app. A tv still has a remote!!!!

The sleep metrics are cool at first but after a while they become background noise.

I certain would not pay for their “membership’. I’m glad I got in early and it’s free to me.

When this bed dies I won’t buy it again i will switch to the main competitor. I won’t name them because it might get this review blocked.
Curious9999999,
Sad to see a magical product get so bad
When I first received my pod pro cover 1 year ago it was magical. It took a bit to set it up but it worked as promised. It’s disappointing and sad to see with the app dates it’s no longer delivering what they promise. I’m waking up during the night several times and the auto pilot always has switched to be too warm. This is the opposite of what it should do and it didn’t do this previously. I’ve tried setting my preferences again- nothing. Finally I switched off auto pilot but now I just have a very expensive cooling pad. What’s even worse is the “support” absolutely doesn’t care. Each time I contact them they say to move the hub closer to my router. The hub is 10 feet from my router, it worked perfectly in the same place before, I upgraded my router solely for 8 sleep AND connectivity should not be the root cause of the terrible auto pilot. I don’t know what has changed internally in the company but on this downward trend they will not last. Do not buy.
KrazyCelticKid,
Janky App After Latest Updates
- No more room temperature (though, to be fair, it was frequently inaccurate so this may have been removed on purpose while they fix it)
- App gets stuck on login page before proceeding into app - this delay was introduced in recent updates and is super annoying, you just have to wait for the app to realize you’re already logged in. Seems like poor coding to have to wait on an inaccurate splash page to get into the app
- Snoozing or stopping alarms from notifications just doesn’t work. Have to go into the app every time to shut them off.

I do enjoy that an Away mode has FINALLY been implemented. Still waiting for another mode - The “I got out of bed to use the restroom/let the dog out during deep sleep mode and now my bed is cold so I have to turn it off and back on to go back to Bed Time temp so it’s warm enough to fall back asleep … mode”
