Description

Ethercache is the world's first digital scavenger hunt, a mobile app that allows you to store hidden messages around the planet, a modern twist on geocaching.

Just give it a try! We think you'll love it.

How to use Ethercache:

1) Go to the place you wish to hide your message.
2) Open Ethercache on your iOS device.
3) Touch the "+" button and wait for the purple pin to drop.
4) Give your new ethercache a name, and a message by touching the info button.
5) Nudge your ethercache a little - but not too far!
6) "Embed" your ethercache.
7) Your ethercache is now available at that location for anyone to find.
8) Have fun!

FAQ:

Q: Just what is Ethercache good for?
A: Ethercache is fun! You can use it for a scavenger hunt, to supplement a geocaching trip, or just to have fun with your friends and family.

Q: Who uses this thing???
A: People all around the world! In the country and in the city, there are user-generated ethercaches in dozens of countries across 6 continents (we're still waiting for someone to leave an ethercache at the south pole!).

Q: Will Ethercache steal all my personal data?
A: No! What you choose to leave behind will be available to anybody to find, but apart from that, we don't use or store any personally identifiable information. And none of the messages you enter are stored on your device.

Permusoft,
Ethercache is back online
Apologies for the downtime!
Child Of Atom,
Am I missing something?
All your info, both on the page here, and in the app is geared towards explaining how you place an Ethercache... but how do you FIND one? After the app located me, (which was nice and quick) I zoomed out... and out... and out... I don't see a single pin anywhere on Earth. How do I know where to go? Am I just supposed to keep the app open 24/7 no matter where I am? What is the range? Will I know when I'm within a mile? A tenth of a mile? I'm in NYC... surely SOMEONE has placed one of these things by now... but I'm not seeing it.

I also wonder how I would know if someone finds something I placed. Or am I not supposed to care about that? I see no reason to place anything unless I can get a return. Throwing messages bottles into the ocean is only fun until you realize that no one is ever going to respond.

I see some potential here, but no functionality yet.
geezfools,
too bare bones
I dig this idea and excited to see where it goes. I already envision exciting scavenger hunts with this, as well as lots of uses in geocaching.
For now though, the app is a little too bare bones and I'm kind of in the dark about a few things. How close do I need to be to an ethercache to "see" it? Can they be deleted? Can they be commented on, kinda like leaving a message for the hider?
Nice start on what could turn into a fantastic twist on hunting for treasure. I'll be patiently waiting for the next version...
Melounotyou,
Awesome
Used this app for the first time on a geocaching puzzle cache. I loved it. I would have given it five stars if I could figure out exactly how to find them. Is there a range you need to be in?
phild31,
So far a waste of time
It loaded fine on my 4s phone but I tapped the + and I am still waiting after 15 minutes for the puple pin to drop.
I can't "Report a Problem" because Permusoft's web site is 'under construction'
Plus it's got google ads running on the bottom of the screen. :(

Don't waste your time with this!
PhantomPhan,
Hmm...
Any chance that you're ever going to update this so that it actually works? If you've abandoned the project, at least remove it from the App Store.
