Release notes:

NEW:
Rest Timers!
The rest timer you have all been waiting for! Gym genius now has an easy to use automatic rest timer thats non intrusive and lets you focus on your workout!

1 · Hit the timer icon to start resting
2 . Enter your next set while you rest
2 · Lock your phone or switch apps
3 · When you hear the beep rest times over! Complete your set
4 . Unlock your phone and enter your current & next set

Thats all there is to it. Theres no need to reactivate the rest timer between sets. Gym Genius will automatically reactivate the rest timer after you unlock your phone and return to the app so you can focus on your workout!

Some other notes about the rest timer:
· If you leave your phone unlocked and Gym Genius in the foreground the rest timer will not automatically restart. This is to avoid unwanted activation of the timer. If you use the timer in this way you will need to manually reactivate it between sets.
· The rest timer remembers your last used rest time and automatically selects this each time.
· You can alter the active rest time by hitting the timer icon. The rest time already elapsed will be taken in to account when you select a new interval.
· The timer wont beep if you have your mute switch enabled or if 'Do not disturb is active'.
· Gym Genius will prompt you for permissions to send notifications. You will need to click 'OK'. This can be modified in Settings > Notifications > Gym Genius.

Jestar irongate,
Just what I was looking for
I wanted an app that I could enter my workouts with exercises-weight-sets-note, and be able to Look at what my last workout was so i can make sure I am on track.
There are a lot of apps and more expensive apps. Some good ones on the past have no longer been updated so they are obsolete.
Gym Genius is clean, simple, easy to enter information. Since I use Golds gym it is hard to have equipment available when I am ready so I need to switch from a machine press to a hammer-free motion- free weight etc to complete that exercise so it is important for me to just identify what equipment and weight I did that exercise. Some people don’t care and that’s fine a bench press for some doesn’t matter if it’s free weight, Smith machine, dumbbell etc. For me I like to track it and that is how I vary my exercise routines.
Long story short I would like IPHONE health app to capture my workout info so I can see the various ball park calories used but that is a minor concern since I am there to work out and lift weights. I like I can add cardio bicycle, treadmill etc easier than in other apps I have used.
Thumbs up, hope you enjoy the app as much as I enjoy it. Well worth the money for me.
grimrivet,
4 years into this app
I have been consistently lifting using this app for approximately 4 years now. I have switched phones several times and had to restore from backups. I have never had any issue with any of the functions that have been built into the product it works superbly every time. That being said there are a few options that could use some tweaks or additions that would make this app unstoppable. First off the tweets, while the workout logging and tracking is excellent the input steps for weight or other vitals is a bit of a chore and could use some simplification. For additions integration with apple health for workout logging and Apple Watch support would be fantastic. Also and this one that I honestly was surprised wasn’t already available, daily and weekly volume totaling, so that accurate and simple training volume metrics could be easily recorded. Other than those few things and even without them this app is worth 2.99 any day of the week. You won’t regret the custom exercise builder or the copy function for previous workouts.

Great all around app
I've tried a bunch of workout apps and this is the most user friendly. I love the timer function that keeps me on pace in my workout without having to worry about it. And I love that I can see what my record and my last weights were during my previous workout. It helps me push myself and make sure I'm progressing. It also has a good bank of existing exercises and it's easy to add an exercise that's not there. The notes section lets me note the reps and sets I need to do for that workout and the rest time between sets. And it saves it in the workout so I don't have to keep looking at another app to see that info. The historical data doesn't seem to store well. I've used this app for about a year and a half, or more, and the saved data only goes back to June of this year right now, which is only a couple of months. It's always been like that too. But all in all, for what I use it for, I love it and use it every workout. It's a great app.

Just What I wanted
I have been looking for a gym tracker app for a long time! I had used excel spreadsheets and a ton of other apps. Every app I found was just designed to track set workouts and routines that were programed in already. I couldnt customize workouts. I wanted to program my own routines and workouts in to an app so I could keep track of them in an organized place and access them quickly on the way to the gym. I wanted to track my weight and reps for exercises. I wanted to be able to look at my weight and reps from the last time I did the exercise so I could quickly set my weights up for that day and also track my strength progress. This app does all that and more. It even lets me temporarily modify workouts on the fly to work around a crowded gym or lack of equipment. Anything I ever found that had any features like this was either super expensive, or required a subscription.
Trmitton,
Best thing to ever happen to me
This app is literally the greatest thing to happen to me. Ever. In my entire life. Before this app came along, I'd walk into the gym not knowing where to start or how much to lift. So I'd start small, afraid to push myself. As you can probably imagine, I was weak, fragile looking, and lacked confidence. Ever since this app came along, things have changed. I track my every movement, constantly improving, gaining pounds of muscle, getting stronger by the day. I track my goals, my PRs, every single set and rep, everything. There is nothing that gets by me or escapes my attention. This app has revolutionized my workouts, and my life.
keene91,
Pretty good
I’ve been using this app off and on for the past 2 years. I find myself using numbers more often however the interface of this app is easy and appealing. Why I’ve rated it 4 stars instead of 5 is for a few reasons off the top of head:

- you can’t add super sets or anything like that (however there are ways around that by adding a blank workout just titled super set)
- if you’ve added sets, reps, rest or any other notes for the workout depending on how much it’ll just say “(insert message)...” not literally but I hope you understand. Anyways there’s no way to view the rest of the note after you’re done editing so now you have rewrite the note and short hand the eff out of it. Very annoying.
- to piggy back off the last flaw is you can’t effectively track on notes you’ve added to workouts such as, “I couldn’t complete the rest of the workout due to tightness in my lower back...” etc.

Maybe I’m being petty but these are the most common issues I run into while dealing with this app and are the primary reasons why I just make my own spreadsheet. If you are looking for essentials and simplicity then this is worth it but if you’re into more advanced forms of working out/documenting then don’t waste your time until they add such features.
Hbkfavre,
Easy to use, zero clarity/support to back up logs
Have been using for years. However, between the settings and the developer, there is ZERO instructions on how to sync your data to a profile or export to a cloud or something. I spent an hour googling and trying to contact the developer but the link is just a one page ad to download the app via the AppStore. I tried to export/back up data but it says “no email configured” yet there are ZERO options to do so. So confusing as I could have sworn I’m the early versions it was simple to export/import your logs AND EVEN gym schedules/workout routines. I started using this app in conjunction to Body Spartan. Body Spartan showed how to import their program to this app but can’t find those instructions as Body Spartan has come out with their junk app.
Westhegreat1,
Great app for tracking workouts
I have used this for 9 months now and it's great. This is my second review and I can say I'm a long time user. I work out five days a week and have logged over 150 work outs in this app. You write notes for each work out for later review and it always shows you the reps and weight you did the last time you performed that exercise. Also has a great exercise database list. Timer that sounds in your headphones between sets is great. Keeps you on tempo. Great app. I highly recommend. Lots of features and easy to use. Check this one out for sure.
Buzz lift,
Does everything I was looking for but...
This app is very good. It is easy to use, I really did make 100% custom routines that I do, can add any exercise that I do and can make it for any schedule I want. The charts and graphs work the way I want, and the app lets me add notes to an individual exercise or to a complete workout. The only thing I would request is the ability to track cardio by time, rather than distance. Some exercises I do are for time such as hitting the punching bag or kettlebell swings. But this certainly doesn't detract from the quality of the app.
realestkillah,
Long time companion
I have been using this app for like 7 or 8 years now. It has been perfect to allow me to build various workout plans with my own custom exercises as well as tracking weights and sets and PRs. The BEST app I had found for this purpose. I also want to give a shoutout to the developer. This guy has consistently updated this app to ensure I can stull use it after all these years. My teenage son has just started working out with me and he loves it as well!
