Like its predecessor, Human Japanese Intermediate is built on the idea that the best way to learn and truly comprehend Japanese is to have it explained by someone who speaks your language. KANJI
Human Japanese Intermediate also gets into kanji in a big way. At the end of most chapters, a new batch of kanji is introduced, with animations of each character, plus example sentences, illustrations, writing tips, and more. Our goal is not to simply throw a bag of characters in your lap, but to carefully explain how everything works.
To this end, Human Japanese Intermediate keeps track of which kanji you've learned at what point in the text and automatically adjusts the "spelling" of words in example sentences as appropriate to your current knowledge. So early on, you might encounter the following sentence:
そのひとの なまえを しらない。
But later, after you've met several of kanji used in these words, the version you would see is:
その人の 名前を 知らない。
This approach removes the most overwhelming aspect of learning kanji--the fact that most sentences contain many characters you don't yet know--and that helps you to stay focused and energized.
QUIZZES
Stay sharp with five different kinds of quizzes: chapter reviews, vocab, conjugation, kanji stroke order, and kanji flashcard.
Quizzes keep track of which questions you get right and wrong, to help you concentrate on your trouble spots.

No better app exists..seriously
I've owned HJ volume 1 since it was a computer software (and I was 12 years old.) I was on and off with it until my sophomore year of high school, when I finally finished it. I next bought the intermediate app and finished that up my junior year. Now I'm 18 and hope to test out of 1 or 2 Japanese classes in my college, and it's all thanks to these apps that I have the confidence and skills to do so.
Brian and the HJ team have put together the holy grail of modern Japanese learning. Nothing else can even come close to this app, and if there were an app like this for Chinese (or any other language) I'd be having a much easier time in school right now!
Overall, I loved this app because it taught me every point of grammar necessary to carry on natural conversations while at the same time keeping me 100% interested and engaged with the beautiful and colorful cultural lessons and photography.
If I had one suggestion to every aspiring Japanese learner, it would be to not move on until you ace every quiz 100%. Trust me, you'll retain everything better.
My only regret is that I wish I would've written a review sooner! I re-purchased the app on my phone just now because i had the iPad version. Well worth buying again, no complaints.

No textbook this good would cost just $10
...and it's interactive, too!
I took Japanese in high school, and this app / textbook explains concepts more thoroughly and clearly than any of my teachers did. The interactive quizzes and sound clips are great features as well.
My only complaint is that while this app is available on multiple platforms (and at a price that makes buying it more than once palatable), there's no way to log in and access the same user content from different devices. Relatedly, it would be nice if a user could make an in-app purchase to access the full version from the free version, rather than starting over. None of this is a huge deal, since you can unlock chapters and skip around manually, but this is the only real technological flaw in what is otherwise a very well-programmed product. I'm still giving it 5 stars; that's how good the content is!

Best integrated Japanese study I’ve encountered…
Having started learning Japanese late in life, I find Human Japanese to be better than any of the popular textbooks used to teach the language in America. I’ve used Genki, Japanese for Busy People, and Minna no Nihongo at various schools. After buying Human Japanese Intermediate for a quick review, I wished I had begun here. The explanations clarify grammatical and usage issues far better than any of the aforementioned texts. And best of all, the approach seems more pragmatic, with immediate online feedback, practice, and participation. Coupled with the affiliated Satori Reader, I think this is the best self-directed learning experience available, and is probably more useful than all the time I’ve spent in language classes!

Absolutely worth the money
I started with the beginner Human Japanese app, and it really kickstarted my Japanese learning and practice. So of course, when I finished that I got the intermediate app. The intermediate version has more grammar concepts, but the explanations are easy to understand. I also enjoyed the 5-kanji a lesson approach because it doesn’t overload you with memorization, but still gives you a great foundation for basic kanji. My only complaint is that there isn’t a Human Japanese upper intermediate/ advanced! I also purchased Satori reader, and it has greatly exposed me to more Japanese practice and vocabulary. I HIGHLY suggest this app to anyone who seriously wants to start learning Japanese.

Best Japanese language App. Indisputable.
The first Human Japanese was easily the best App on the market for learning Japanese. Human Japanese Intermediate exceeds that and does not disappoint. After finishing the first Human Japanese for beginners, I was empowered to learn more right away. Consequently, I picked up other apps and learned even more advanced Japanese. When Human Japanese Intermediate finally dropped I was thrilled even though I knew that most of the content I surely covered in great detail. Never the less, I forked up the money for a learning experience I would get nowhere else. Sure, I knew most of the material covered, but it is still my favorite Japanese learning tool. There is just so many features. 5 stars.

Easy learning Japanese
The way the author describes and examples the language is unbeatable. I have had an affinity to learn Japanese since I was a teenager, but never had the resources or money to learn in a class environment. Outside of having had one class, I have pretty much been teaching myself Japanese since my teenage years. Then I found Human Japanese vol 1. And fell in love with the ease of learning the book offers. I couldn't wait for the second book to come out! And I have to say, it is every bit as good as the first if not improved. Thank you for your teachings! I do appreciate these books!

Absolutely fantastic!
Such an immersive way of learning with the writer using conversational ways of teaching you how to learn Japanese. I have been using this app for over five years and it is worth every penny. Sure, there are things that this app might not teach you, but it has so many fundamental teaching points whether it’s the beginner app or the intermediate one. The audio portion of this is easy to understand and the breakdown of sentences (the icon of a notepad) are so helpful. All in all, I absolutely treasure this app as an avid Japanese learner. Thank you for this recourse!

Best Japanese learning app
I tried a lot of Japanese learning apps and this is easily the best. It is just so packed with useful extras. You can spend a lot of time going over the dozens of chapters, and when you’re done you really will have a better understanding of the language. Combine this with Midori for vocab and you will have powerful and useful tools for Japanese self-study. Human Japanese is also a very high quality, well-designed app and worth every penny.

Modern language learning at its best
I've been through HJ1 and an working through 2, and I couldn't be more impressed with the quality and clarity of this instruction. I think textbooks for not just languages but any subject would do well to follow HJ's tone, pace, and thoughtful skill progression. And why would I ever use a language textbook again that didn't let me click on every example sentence to hear its pronunciation?

Both this and the beginner volume are unbelievably well done. Perfectly clear explanations, excellent organization and pace. Highly recommended.
Note to author: the only way I could imagine improving on these textbooks would be with the addition of an index or search facility. Sometimes I know a topic is covered in one of the volumes but I have to skim through each chapter again to find it.
