c0d3h4x0r,
So much potential wasted by bugs
Amazing little MOD player app with lots of cool real-time visualizations, a built-in file browser, playlist editor/manager, multiple underlying playback engines (including OpenMPT), and automatic online database search.

Sadly, bugs plague this badly-neglected app. On iPad Pro 10", trying to use the pattern scroll visualizer causes the app to crash. On iPhone, you can get the app to crash in various edge cases (example: open the app and hit "play" to play the last song the app previously played, and the app will crash if the underlying file for that song has been deleted/moved and no longer exists). It's a very frustrating app to use with all the crashing.

I have to give it at least 4 stars for being the ONLY app of its kind in the App Store and for using the highly-compatible OpenMPT playback engine. But I have to deduct a star for the crashes and lack of updates.
SKneip,
Good, but has issues
Overall probably the best mod/vgm player on the app store. It plays custom formats (amiga, arcade, genesis, etc) very accurately and supports a huge number of formats. The ability to download your favorite music from inside the app is fantastic. I also really like that you can easily view information stored in the custom formats, for example HVSC notes. But now for the bad news… Unfortunately, there are two pretty big issues: 1) trying to download from some integrated menus like vgmrips causes an instant app crash 100% of the time, and it’s been this way for months, which means I’m stuck with whatever songs I’ve already downloaded before this bug was introduced. Being unable to download new music on a music app seems like it should be a high priority to fix. 2) navigating through your music library and playlists is really confusing, it’s easy to get lost and hard to find the music you want sometimes. I’m not a user interface designer so I have no suggestions on how to fix it, I just know that it’s not very intuitive.

Our choices for custom format game music playback on mobile devices is incredibly limited, and so this is probably your best option. Just know beforehand that there are going to be some rather large annoyances while using it.
Norms sutton,
I love/hate this app.
Modizer has some awesome things about it and some terrible things about it. The awesome is that it plays just about all of the modern file formats used for legacy game music. You can literally have thousands of game soundtracks from platforms like NES, Genesis, and arcade, to less popular stuff like Atari ST, PC-88, and MSX. The interface for adding new OSTs is intuitive, the tracks are usually bit accurate, and they take up barely any room at all.

But it’s not all roses. The playlist functionality is unusable, and the random track feature only plays the first tracks out of any given pack.

By far the most frustrating issue, however, is the fact that the app periodically needs to “update the database”. I don’t know what is in this database, but it takes FOREVER to update. Case in point, today I tried to do it, and gave up after about 20 minutes. You have to click update, and leave your phone alone, because if you put the app in the background, it will reset and you’ll have to start over the next time you try to use the app. This basically forces you to choose between not using your phone or not using the app, every few weeks or month or however often it gets an updated database. As much as I love the pros of this app, I don’t love it enough to put up with such nonsense.
danielton1,
Very good but needs some tweaks
This is a great app for playing video game music on iOS. However, the interface needs some tweaks for the notched iPhones, since the volume bar at the bottom is unusable since it’s behind the home bar at the bottom of the screen. Also, most PlayStation audio files don’t work for some reason. Other than that, I like the fact that you can download your music files directly from its own browser and it will add them to the library automatically.
Amish Carpool,
Supports many sound formats, very buggy
Been using this app for over a year. I love using this program for its wide range of supported formats and it's ability to easily download from various sites, however this program has many frustrating bugs that can cripple your experience. The app intermittently crashes, back button does not play previously track in random mode, random mode only plays first track in a directory of zip files, only 256 downloads are allowed at a time, app deletes your download queue if you minimize the app when not playing music, app often restarts you open another app and you are not playing music (I.e. Someone calls you while you were in the middle of browsing/downloading).

Many of these bugs have been around for quite sometime. If you are looking for an app to play a wide range of formats, this is your tool, you just have to trudge through or workaround the bugs.
Geo (:,
Unrivaled
I’ve been using Modizer for many many years now, and back then it was better then anything out there in terms of retro VGM music playback.

Today, with all the added updates, it’s so good, it even rivals (and in someways surpasses) Foobar and Winamp on PC. It’s extremely stable now, and has so many compatible file formats... it’s actually just absurd (it even supports .flac!). The biggest addition was an oscilloscope view for individual channels—alongside being able to mute channels to study the music construction.

Simply put... Modizer today, is unrivaled. My only complaint is that I can’t use it on PC—how good it is.

I look forward to whatever comes next with further updates... as this is already so darn good.

If I could rate this app 7 stars... I would.

Get. This. App. It slays. Seriously.
Mikestery,
This has come a long way
I am so glad for the latest update. With the new update I can finally play all the files I usually do with a different app on a different platform that I used to use. Suffice it to say I am ecstatic at the progress that has been made. I can't wait to see what else is going to come of this. I'm glad that I paid for this a long time ago. I wish there is more I can do for this developer.
HypernovaTX,
Awesome app!
Plays almost every kind of music file types under the sun. The playback/plugins are well programmed. However there is one major issue I am facing:

The app crashes if I attempt to select a music from a zipped format. Once a while it randomly crashes which I believe that it could be iOS 11 compatibility issues.
DaedalusEagle,
Best VGM app on iOS...
Great app overall! The only suggestion I currently have is that there needs to be a way to backup or save files. I understand, from visiting the official forums, iCloud backup may not be possible. Is there a way to integrate Apple Files support? That would at least allow the user to find their VGM files and back them up if necessary; or listen to them on another device. Instant 5 star review if the file saving features get sorted out!
DWestbury,
Love the versatility and quality, but needs updates!!
Whenever I need o scratch a retro chip tune itch I reach for MODizer. The number of emulations is terrific, having access to many, many libraries of tracks for multiple platforms, from directly within the interface is super convenient and the visualizers are fun to watch while out jam out.

My only real complaint is periodic updates. I would really love to hear tracks from the latest High Voltage SID Collection, but the MODizer library hasn’t been updates since ~2019!?

I like this tool enough to pay for a commercial version, if I could know it will always have current libraries.

Cheers
