Description

Pocket Jam is for musicians wanting to practice and play along with their favourite songs. Loop specific sections of songs, or change the pitch or tempo in real time.

If you don't have a capo to hand — or worse, the song is in a lower tuning than you, Pocket Jam has you covered. You can change the pitch up and down — in real time — to any amount of semitones up to an octave.

Looping lets you pick specific parts of the song you want to practise. Once enabled, drag the left and right handles on the play bar to set the start and end of the loop, and it'll loop between them.

And when looping isn't enough, you can use the speed trainer. With a loop set up up, you can have it start each loop playing slowly, and gradually get faster after each loop. You can customise how slow it starts, and how many loops it takes to reach the full tempo.

Mark specific times in a song with section markers. It'll let you jump to parts or set up loops quicker.

You can add songs from your iTunes collection or from your Files on device, and play them back in real time, or export them.

Apple Music streaming is here! You can now add songs from your Apple Music library, and they’ll just work. You’ll be able to change the tempo, add bookmarks, set up looping, and use the speed trainer. Note that pitch changes and file exporting is not available when using Apple Music streaming

You’ll now see the current playing song on the lock screen - where you can also play and pause the song

The new repeat toggle in the ‘now playing’ area will let you toggle between playing through your playlist, or repeating the same song

The playlist now has a ‘clear’ button

When playing a loop, it will now show the current play time and the duration

In addition to using the +/- controls in the pitch & tempo and speed trainer sections, you can now tap on the headings to input values with a keyboard

Finally, there are some bug fixes! Imported from Files will no longer be un-playable when restarting the app. When the system’s audio service resets, the app will no longer crash

For everyone, there's a few UI improvements - the speed trainer section is now cleaner, and now when you're exporting a file, it defaults to the name of the song

For the brave, there's a new Apple Music beta test that will let you use your subscription to stream songs. To try this out, head over to the playlist, tap 'Apple Music Beta Test', then tap 'Opt-In'

You can now export entire songs - or sections of songs - with the pitch and tempo adjustments applied

The tempo can now be reduced as low as 25%

The speed trainer will now show you the current speed, as well as adding the ability to lock the current speed for a time

This update has a complete redesign of the interface. The play bar should be easier for those who did not like the old one. Everything is also now on one page, so you can access it without changing tabs.

The app will now periodically request an app store review (if you haven't already). If you don't mind taking a minute to do so, it really helps out! Feature requests are also welcome.

Fixed issue where app would crash when playing a song from the end. Apple Music items are now hidden from the media picker, because we aren't able to play them.

VoxAux,
Perfection for vocal practice!
As a professional vocal coach, I am often in need of the ability to change the key of a song on-the-fly to suit a student’s vocal type. For complicated, fast melodies (think: vocal riffs/runs), it can help to slow down a section of a song and study exactly what notes are being sung.

That is where Pocket Jam comes in. I can simply load an MP3, change the key, and slow down the tempo with the app. It even allows me to loop the part of the song to practice, and export the song in the key and with the tempo that I need. It even includes a practice mode that will slowly increase the loop speed to challenge you to improve.

Best of all, Pocket Jam works incredibly fast. I have used many key-changing apps on the App Store, and this is by FAR the best app out there for this purpose. It really is no-nonsense, and does exactly what it says on the tin.

Additionally, the developer was extremely responsive to my questions when I addressed him directly regarding ways the app the could improve.

If key-changing or tempo-changing is what you need, just buy this app. It is well worth it.

The only caveat with the app is that it does not support Apple Music or any other streaming service. But, of course, this makes full sense as those tracks are typically copywritten. That said, it is easy enough to make an MP3 of a track and load it into Pocket Jam.
Rainbow Cookieees,
Love
Awesome Music App, please add a repeat option and color equalizer love this App a lot

Great product
This works great... wish it stepped down in 1/4 note increments instead of 1/2... also noticed when I close the app and come back next time my playlist is still there but it won’t let me play it so I have to clear list and re add them. Other than that it really works great for changing keys for different tunings on songs…
Natals8,
Instructions would be nice
This app is great for practicing tap dance, but I’m having trouble figuring out how to use the speed trainer. As far as I can tell it does not increase speed within the set number of loops (I set it for 5 and at 10 I’m still going the same tempo) and after the latest update I have no idea what NaN means. Some basic explanatory notes would be very helpful! Also on the speed scrubber down there it would be nice to see what percent you’re starting at so I can match with the speed I set at the top of the screen instead of guessing roughly where 86% might be.

Seems like with the update we also lost the ability to set the start location of the loop. Now I always have to start at the beginning, but it would be nice to isolate a section mid-song.
flyingSix,
Hard to Pause!
I like the App very much, however having the scrolling button for moving forward and backwards in the song the same as the play and pause button is very difficult to work. Please change it to two separate buttons: a ball on the songs place in the song and a separate play/pause toggle button. This would be much easier to operate on a iPhone.
Another suggestion: it seems your App is changing the song as I tap the change in pitch or the change in speed. There lag delays on my iPhone 8 as I do this so the buttons seem very in responsive. Why not allow us to set the pitch and/or time and press a go button for the App to do its work to transpose the song for speed we requested. That would be but a single delay.
Thanks for listening!
RuthyJayyy,
Help! I love/need this app!
I use this app every single day. It has changed my life! I use it for my own practice and to help my students!

I commented before but I made a typo so I’ll explain again. The main complaint I have is that my imported songs get deleted. I wish the app would save it. I figure it has to do with the file being moved to iCloud after being downloaded. Every time I want to use the app- I need to re-download the songs, adjust the key/tempo, then delete the one that “could not be played”. I’m not sure if I’m explaining myself correctly. My boss is having the same problem. Please help.
lg_guy,
Looks good but unable to get .mp3 from Dropbox
I’m lost. I have an .mp3 in my Dropbox but I don’t see anyway to access it. It appears that the app only knows how to access the iTunes library? Thanks.

I’m an iPhone newby. Finally got the song I wanted in the right place. Love this app! The group my wife plays with is constantly shifting keys from recordings we can find and being able to key shift a song is amazing. Also being able to slow it down for listening & learning is wonderful! Thanks for your quick response 😀!
Feelin This,
Great app but a few reccomendations
I use this app all the time and I love it, but after a few updates ago the next song won’t automatically start without pressing play, so I have to walk over to my phone if it’s auxed or bluetoothed and switch to the next song. Also I don’t understand why tempo only goes up by 2% it’d be awesome if we could adjust it by 1%.
rjmbass76,
Works but, buggy
For the most part, the app works as it’s supposed to. Was able to create a playlist to practice along with, I need to change the pitch of some songs as I play them indifferent tunings. Works great for that, but, I find it hard to press the pause/unpause button. It just starts skipping along the song then eventually it crashes.
TPal1234,
Doesn't Work
Tried to add songs several times that are downloaded on my iPhone 7 (not from iCloud). When I click on the song it checks it as if it is being added, but every time, the app does not actually bring them in and simply says "no songs added". Tried rebooting as well but no change. All software is up to date. So, this app appears to be useless on the iPhone. Hopefully I can get a refund unless this bug is somehow fixed very soon.
