peterott,
Frustrating login nonsense
Every time I open the app I have to login. It is set up for Face ID and it never logs in the first time. I have to close the app completely and relaunch it and maybe it will then login. That might sound like a little thing but when someone is at the door, how are they to know I’m busy trying to log in? By the time I do get the app to load, the person at the door is gone. Therefore, the feature of the doorbell where I can talk to the person at the door is useless.

At this point it is unlike I would recommend this product because the app is garbage.
daz10000,
Fix the recurring login problem.
I’d actually be happy to give this closer to a four except for one critical inexplicable flaw in this app that other people have mentioned. Even if you enable Face ID, it still makes you actually type in the password. If you use a password management app and have a decent password, this adds about five steps to answering the front door which basically makes this useless. The hardware is otherwise great, the installation was painless, I like that they don’t charge a subscription. They have everything they need to be successful if they fix that one stupid bug. I’m afraid of introducing the app to my family at this point and hoping they just continue to use it as a dumb doorbell. I have never successfully managed to actually answer the doorbell in time when somebody arrived

Update: It appears cryptically that disabling image security removes the password requirement on every door bell ring when face logo enables. Cautiously trying that but not happy that removing encryption is needed to remove password check

Update2: sadly that suggestion from seller did nothing. Still asks for Face ID to unlock and then asks for the password again once a day. Makes it unusable Back to one star

Less Than Great
Use this application in conjunction with pairing your doorbell to your Wi-Fi. Using this app for the first time was fairly straightforward. It allowed me to set up my doorbell rather easily. One problem I noticed was if you had to pair your doorbell with your Wi-Fi a second time. The second time was not near as easy. The directions were poor at best. It left out a lot of needed information, for instance, my doorbell does not accommodate 5 gig connections. After doing a lot of research I was able to draw that conclusion. Also when viewing the camera and rotating my phone 90° to watch The video footage. It would not allow me to turn my phone back vertically and switch views. It would simply lock there. I would in turn have to shut the application down and restart it. That’s a bug that really should be fixed.
Setting up the camera and areas that would be triggered what is not as intuitive as it could have been.
Setting up the app for notifications on your phone was fairly easy and works as it should.
All in all the application was OK but not without its problems.

Signing in to see who is at the door.
The only problem I have is by the time I get to see who is at the door, they have left because it takes to many steps to answer. I have to sign in every time with my thumb print instead of just clicking the notifications. My sister has Ring and she never has to sign in. The picture is clear is the only good thing I can say because I’m so frustrated that it takes so long to get into the app. I don’t understand why I have to sign in every time. I can literally be down stairs in the basement and walk a flight of stairs to answer the door before getting on signed into the app to see who is at the door. Please fix this!!!! I’m so disappointed. Update. It’s been almost a year and it is worse than it was. Logs me out every day, I have to put password in for everything thing. I can’t use it. Some people tried to break in to our house last week and and I couldn’t get the doorbell to connect in time. It’s useless . RCA clearly could care less about their product. I wish I had read the reviews before purchase.
Asdfrasdf,
Needs an update
Why does the app force me to log in almost every day? I’ve set it to use Touch ID on my iPhone but it makes me log in almost every day. It also doesn’t let me save the password so I have to type it in every time. I’m so annoyed that I’m thinking of buying a Ring camera. Please fix these issues soon. Please.

After reading all the other reviews with the same issues going back years, The only conclusion I can make is that RCA doesn’t care about this app or making their products work as customers expect them to. If you are looking for a doorbell camera, do not buy an RCA.
5gcat,
Unstable/slow load
App could be improved by increasing the speed of the video loading time, sometimes loads quickly, other times does not fully load but pauses at 90% or less and then have to close app and reopen. Also when on home view and press video history the app will often crash and close. Good functionality when works properly. Please continue to work on upgrading.

Touch ID
I love the RCA doorbell on my front door and the floodlights camera on back door. I would have given it 5 stars but I'm frustrated with the app requiring me to manually log in when I have touch ID enabled. This is an immediate needed fix for the software. The hardware is better and cheaper than the Ring doorbell, I had it and replaced with this one. The Ring system is just a money grab scheme to get you to sign up for monthly/annual storage fees, etc.
Dbpaull,
Decent camera. Terrible app.
My app uses face recognition. Fortunately, this relies on the iOS to perform authentication, otherwise, I doubt the feature would work at all. Despite setting it up for that facial recognition, the app still requires me to re-enter my password every other day or so.

The device itself should have some type of a soft reset feature as well, but it totally lacks this. You have to basically disassemble it in order to restart it. Don’t be fooled by the updates that say ‘bug fixes’ - they’ve been saying this every time, yet nothing is ever fixed that I’ve noticed.
Ileddog,
Great product TERRIBLE app
As far as im concerned this could be one of the best products out there HOWEVER, its app is truly TERRIBLE. It is not user friendly. Fails more than it works. Unstable. Like i said a TERRIBLE app. The app is so bad it almost makes having a very well made camera pointless. App has gotten progressively worse over time.

I rate the camera itself a 4 but gave a 1 for an overall rating because of what is mentioned above. I would mention all the issues with the app but it would seriously take longer than its worth.
Jssjr79,
Was a great doorbell but seems like they don’t care anymore
This was a great doorbell when it started and I was recommending it to everyone but then it’s like they quit caring about their customers. The picture quality is great but the app support went down to none. It has Face ID but never logs you in with your face. Come on guys read your reviews as take some pride in the app that you developed. The quality of the video is excellent now let’s get the app support where it should be and this would be a great security cam.
