Freaking. Life. Saver.
Perfect for adaptive quizzing!! Saving yourself time looking up answers to some random question from the caption of a picture in a random textbook isn’t cheating. :)

Busy work, no more! Used it for the first time tonight - half asleep and I remembered I had an assignment due in a couple hours. The assignment was an adaptive quiz where you had to answer questions until you “leveled up”. I didn’t have to spend hours answering the same kinds of questions over and over and wasting time looking up answers in the book so it didn’t hurt my percentage. I scan the question, and while it is searching (only a few seconds), I would answer the question on my own. Submit if I guessed it right, and change it if I guessed wrong. Saves so much time because once you answer, the rationale is right there. Can’t believe I’m only not discovering this app... but I’m beyond thankful nonetheless.

*EDIT: Obviously use the app wisely. Don’t substitute it for knowledge, and always verify your answers. The answers are pulled from Quizlet and like sources, that are made by students just like us. But if I know some tiny tidbit isn’t going to be on my professor’s exam, it can be a little hard to justify reading six paragraphs on the topic to try to find my answer. And here comes in - Socratic!

a literal lifesaver
I never leave actual reviews on anything, so let this be a testimony within itself hahahah. As a highschool Junior, I can attest that this is the best app ever. Thank you Google for making this free, it’s ridiculous that some apps charge students for a genuine learning experience. angle I was super skeptical of this app at first, when my friend recommended it. So skeptical that I downloaded it, but didn’t even open it until a year later. Now that I’ve been using it , I can’t believe survived 2 full highschool years without using it. I needed this app for Algebra 2 because I was not learning efficiently with my given course material, and failed in my sophomore year. I knew I needed to pass this year, but it was still a struggle to do without cheating. This app doesn’t just give me answers, it explains how to get them step by step not only so I can understand but so I can have proof if my teacher ask lol. I am passing all of my assignments so far, so the future is looking bring for me. As an online student, this is the best tool out there for anyone who cares about their learning. Algebra doesn’t scare me anymore thanks to Socratic, honestly. Try it, you won’t regret it.

Confusing and unable to answer questions
I downloaded this app to help me understand my math homework more when trying to makeup work that I missed. It works well with taking pictures and explaining, but it only explains simple questions or questions other people have asked. It works well for problems in like 1st-5th grade, but when you start to do middle school math with it, it doesn’t have the question you asked or it explains it in a confusing way. I had a question of “Triangle A has side lengths 2, 3, and 4. Triangle B has side lengths of 4, 5, and 6. Is Triangle A similar to Triangle B?” Similar meaning same angle measures and possibly different side lengths. It gave me an answer but not for my questions. Google Socratic gave me answers that had to do with right angles, side lengths, and the differences between types of triangles but not what I was looking for. I gave this app 4 stars because it’s a good app for younger kids learning math but not for middle and high school math. The app does not seem to understand the question or gives you the answer to a “similar” question when you ask for a question more than just a simple “_x_=_”. I hope Google can fix this because Socratic is a very easy and understandable app to use, it just doesn’t meet the requirements for explaining math to older students.

Socratic has your back!
As an upperclassman in high school: take my word for this - this app is amazing! As an AP/honors students I sure know what it’s like to not do assignments (due to tiredness, laziness, or legitimate reasons) or copy from friends the period before the assignment is due. I also know what it’s like to be an active user of Quizlet whenever I need to look up some test or quiz answers for reviews/studying or for straight up cheating (lol). But what we all know is that searching up each individual question on google and then having to go through several Quizlets to find the correct answers for each and every one can be quite time consuming and tedious. However, with this wonderful app it finds all the Quizlets for you in an instant by just taking a picture of the question! Even if Socratic can’t find an answer, it provides the user with at least a legitimate, scholarly definition of the subject matter of your question! In short, Socratic is a amazing and l totally recommend it to any type of student! Honestly, Socratic came through and helped me passed my finals this semester!

Greatest cheating app ever
When I was in high school, I was struggling with math, I didn’t know how calculus or inequalities work. I was failing class due to the teacher failing to teach us about the importance on how to do those equations. When I saw my friend use the app called Socratic, he really helped me and he told me “the teacher doesn’t do anything for us, that’s why I am cheating” and I agreed. Then he told me to get the app and I asked “what’s it called” he told me Socratic. I installed the app and it really helped me. The app helped my grade be gained by 67%, but there was a catch tho, the problem was it was prohibited by using the app due to it was called cheating, so I decided to using the app in secret, I didn’t get caught for the first 2 months and when I did, I only lost that small quiz not he whole entire grade. To conclude this review, I would personally recommend Socratic due to it really helps you with your work especially when your in school. Just don’t get caught or else u would lose more credits than gain credits.
ash opm,
Best app ever
I never write reviews for apps. In fact this is my first ever review for any app. However, I just had to write one for this app. This is the best learning app ever. Mark my words. The best ever. From science to math to English any subject you want this app will have it. From taking a picture to using the microphone to ask a question this app never fails! If you have a specific question sometimes it even pulls up flash cards that associate with that question giving you the exact answer! I love this app so much it never lets me down you should totally download this app. It even has 3 math apps into this so when you take a pic of a math equation it’ll search the answer through those 3 different apps. It’s like a 3 in 1! Download this app seriously it’s a game changer this changed my life. Thanks to this app I understand every material given to me in school. Thank you Socratic !
KittenSamuria,
The update sucked
To whoever is reading this, you must be confused to why everyone is talking about why the update sucked, and what did they exactly update well here’s an explanation

Before the update this app would both give you the answer but explain it in a way where you knew how to do the rest of the math problems you needed help with initially. I sometimes used it just for the answers, but most times it was because I had trouble with a specific problem. Some math problems got more complicated and to understand it I would use this app, it would go into a step by step process to make sure you, the user, understood how to do the problem. Sometimes it would provide links and would show you graphs so you fully understood. I also used it to check my answers to see if they were right.

Now after the update you can’t really do any of that. It tells you how to do specific things but doesn’t show the step by step on how to do the problem. For example you could in put, 5+4-3, and it’d show you how to add and subtract but wouldn’t show you step by step what to add or subtract first. I used to love and recommend this app but this partnership and new update completely ruined the app for me.
jakegreemore,
Amazing
I love this app for so many reasons. I love that it gives you answers from different sources because certain sources give better explanations than other for certain problems. It’s really good at recognizing the text in a text book or my handwriting and I have really bad hand writing. It helps when I am doing a new type of problem and to make sure I am doing it right and if I don’t know how it can teach me how. It has helped me do so well in Algebra I. I just have one problem I recently got an iPhone X and now the app is all messed up. When you try to crop your problem it doesn’t do it right and it is all off center. It almost makes the app unusable. I understand the phone is still new and it takes time to update, but if you could do it as fast as possible it would mean a lot because I need this app. Thank you for making this amazing app it is far better than Photomath
Fedora_Boy,
Photomath v. Socratic
I love all things apps that help you handle real-life problems. That’s why I have an arsenal of homework, study, and scholarly apps, two of them being Photomath and Socratic Math and Homework help. I like both for different reasons
Photomath- Photomath can do a lot of advanced equations and problems, as well as graphs. However, it does not possess the ability to do word problems.
Socratic- Socratic can do math, history, science and English. All the other subjects besides, Socratic’s math can do word problems but not a lot of advanced equations.
Both apps have the ability to scan, as well as give detailed instructions on how to actually do the thing they just gave you the answer for. They are both extremely valuable apps in my possession, and as a student with honors classes, I feel ready to face whatever my teachers throw at me. Thank you, Socratic and Photomath
Al Havemann,
Useless
I installed this app to see what it was for, after about a minute I wasn’t even sure it was running. I use a iPad Pro exclusively mounted in closed frame because I have grand Children and i need to exercise reasonable since their very young. Problem is that the frame is firmly mounted to my desktop, it doesn’t rotate. This app opens the camera and starts in portrait mode. The wall behind the iPad is very dark walnut and unlighted so the screen showed nothing at all which made it impossible to read anything or know what input it was waiting for. To proceed I would have had to unplug the iPad then disassemble the frame assembly just to take the iPad out [of the frame] to stand it on edge so I could read what was on the screen. This wasn’t going to happen, I have low tolerance for sloppy coding that couldn’t even check the environment it was running on and accommodate the screen orientation immediately.

End of story, there were no proper startup checks and Am not tolerant of arrogant coding.
