Description

Meet Stronger by the Day: A group training app dedicated to making you the strongest lifter you can be – in the gym, or at home.

If you’ve been cherry-picking workouts from Instagram influencers or have seen a plateau in strength, it’s time to find a dedicated strength program – and coach – that provides you with a focused path to a stronger you. With Meg Gallagher, aka Megsquats, at the helm, we take care of all the planning. All you have to do is show up and put in the work. There’s a stronger version of you waiting.

The in-gym version of Stronger by the Day is all about building muscle and getting stronger. Your training is built around progressions on four main lifts: squat, bench, deadlift, and overhead press. Complemented by rotating accessory lifts from our library of 400+ movements, you'll be lifting more weight, building more muscle, and having more fun in training – all while doing it alongside thousands of other lifters who are on the same journey.

While most at-home training programs center on gimmicky exercise combinations that leave you out of breath, Stronger by the Day hits different. Our bodyweight program is every bit as intentional as our in-gym training, taking an intentional progression-based approach to building strength. We help you utilize bodyweight and simple pieces of equipment – like bands – to still make progress even without the use of barbells or machines.

The Stronger by the Day App has features that help make it incredibly simple for you to continue getting stronger, including:

– In-app training journal to track your results
– Suggested weights for each main lift based on previous training sessions, as well as a reference recent performance for all accessories
– Stats section that visually features squat, bench, deadlift, and overhead press
– Brand new week of programming released every Sunday
– Explanations and in-app video demonstrations for every movement in our exercise library of 400+ movements
– Swap out movements when you need to with our easy-to-access substitutions library
– Detailed weekly notes with the exact training focus of any given week, as well as the broader context of where we are in a training cycle
– Extensive video and blog library available to help improve technique and continue learning
– Option to select weight unit of kilograms (kg) or pounds (lbs)

kimdimlim,
Best fitness app on the market
I wanted to give this app/program some time before I left a review. Ive been following SBTD for the last5 months and can honestly say I absolutely love this app! I did the 7 day free trial and decided to stay on since I loved it so much. I’ve tried several fitness apps over the last several years but this one blows me away the most. The ability to track your weights and reps, being able to easily substitute exercises, the form cues and library of exercises - all of it is so superior to anything I’ve tried (sweat, evolve you, playbook, FBK, trainerize, etc). My favorite feature is how the app calculates and tells you what weight to use for the primary lifts and it will tell you when to increase your training max as well. I also love that you can easily see you stat progression on your main lifts too. Very cool to see how much my strength ebbs and flows with the programming. The added bonus of having a warm up and conditioning to the workouts is also really great. A recent feature that was released is the ability to change how many days a week you want/can train - and the app will automatically tweak your scheduled workouts for you so you’re able to still train with the intended focus, intensity and volume with the current program without feeling like you’re missing anything. This is really helpful for those weeks or seasons you just can’t get in the 5 workouts a week.
Tashana M,
I love this app I love you Meg
I love how versatile this app is. I can substitute any exercise if I don’t have the equipment while still targeting the prescribed muscle group. You get access to a whole library of movements with written instructions AND videos. When it comes to the actual work out it’s broken up in a way that makes us seem really manageable while definitely pushing your limits or whatever you feel you need to do that day (the weight and reps are ultimately up to you). But what I love most is how the program keeps things interesting. I’m constantly learning new movements with tips on how to execute and perfect them. I’ve had trouble sticking with things before because I get bored of doing the same thing or it feels daunting or like I’m not doing the movement right and just hurting myself. With stronger by the day I feel like I have the support to do it the right way and constantly improve. I’m actually looking forward to my next work out and learning new movements and combinations. I love watching the instructional videos too! Definitely feel like I’m getting stronger by the day and building a loving relationship with exercising as a whole. It’s not just lifting weights it’s so much more! Band work, mobility, body weight work and mental strengthening. I love it
SMBanister,
Great app
Love having each section with the exercises, detailed programming, ability to adjust sets/reps/weight and how it keeps record of everything. I especially love how it keeps track of my training maxes for the main lifts and automatically suggests the weight to use based off my records and the written programming for the day. Each exercise has a video demo and written explanation, plus several subs in case you can’t perform a specific exercise for any reason. I also like that I can see the week of programming at once and just chose which day (day 1-5) I want when I need the flexibility to switch the programming days around. I haven’t used the conditioning portion yet, but love how it’s incorporated and I can toggle it on or off for the day! There are some glitches from time to time, but the team has been extremely responsive and quick to try and resolve them as they pop up. My only (minor) issue with it is the app wants you to enter the reps/weight from left to right versus trying to fill in the weight down the vertical side of the page - it will automatically scroll back up to the most top empty box. Seriously minor issue that I personally don’t care for but I still think this is a five star app for sure!!
IStevens1220,
Great workout, poor app function
The workout program is great — I bought the program so I’m not having to create my own anymore. However most of the time I can’t even get into the app and when I can, it’s slow and the interface is difficult to interact with. When I click on the app the app freezes and won’t load. The only way to “fix” this is if I delete the entire app and redownload. When I’m actually able to use the app, most of the time it’s slow and laggy so my workout either does not include substitutions or it takes forever to load the next exercise. The app does not let you see your entire workout as you logging in the data — it will be like a page 1/4 that you click through and it only shows the screen for that specific set of exercises. When I was on a bodybuilding team their interface had the entire workout on one screen making it easier to substitute and do the exercises in a different order if machines are unavailable at that moment, etc…

I had also seen that MegSquats was advertising some sort of pregnancy/post partum workout. I’ve repeatedly tried to find how to access this — as I’m 4 months pregnant and was interested to see if the workouts would be better than the current program of hers that I’m using — but the app is not interactive enough to help you access or even figure it out.
epayne1282,
Want to see workout preview in one screen!
I love the features this app adds to SBTD, especially being able to log and track progress. However, one thing that would make this 5 stars to me is being able to see each day’s workout in one screen. Sometimes I have to switch up the order of the exercises based on how I’m feeling or how busy the gym is. I really like knowing what exercises I’ll be doing that day so I can plan what machines I’ll need to keep an eye on, an area of the gym I want to take up, etc.

I can kind of see a preview under the Start Workout button but I can’t see the full day. It’d be cool if I could swipe up to see all the exercises for that day with the option to start workout from the swiped up screen as well.

Also, on another user experience related note, I get a little confused with the Replace button in the substituions feature. It’s a light gray and doesn’t look like an active button. Usually this color gives the mental model that I have to do something before I can click this button — it appears grayed out and looks like I can’t click it yet. I was curious why this call to action button wasn’t purple (like the Start Workout/Next buttons) or another color. It also has quite a low contrast accessibility wise (same goes for the confirmation screen that comes next!)
Mo's boo,
Intelligent training program and app does the math for you
Stronger by the Day is the smartest workout program at this price point I’ve come across. It’s not random one-off workouts, or the same thing every week, it progresses according to a plan based on physiological principles and training cycles. So that’s excellent, but I’m here to review the app.

I was doing this program before the app came out and was SO EXCITED about the app. A lot of the negative reviews on here were from the beta testing phase which is part of all app development processes. Now it’s been ironed out and I’m using it for every workout. It’s easy to use, does my percentage math for me and keeps track of my training maxes so I’m not always referring to a separate spreadsheet than my daily programming list. It gives substitutions with a few clicks AND (for me this is a huge cherry on top!) tells you how much weight total you’ve moved that day. Something about seeing that you lifted more than a typical car weighs gives a girl a boost for the rest of the day, know what I mean?

Anyway it’s a great app and a great program for an extremely reasonable price. I’ve already gotten way more than my money’s worth.
Espacker,
Best value for price point
If the app were anymore expensive, I’d give it four stars but at such a fair price, it deserves 5. It can crash occasionally and has some clunky bits and missing features but it’s low price point and decent exercise library make it the most accessible workout/lifting app I’ve seen.

What I love: low cost, programming is solid with core moves and ancillary work, tells me when to increase my training max, has barbell or body weight options that you can switch back and forth between if your find yourself traveling , all movements and substitutions have a written explanation and a video demo

What it needs: to crash less often, to have the option to add a substitute movement that is not in their library, to store your lift history by lift instead of date so I can see the last several lifts instead of the very last lift, the timer can be clunky and doesn’t work if you want to switch into another app to if you need to click ahead to view the next exercise group while you’re resting between sets, to be able to export my data into google sheets
agenericsmith,
Finally, a user experience-focused fitness app!
I have been a subscriber to Stronger by the Day for just over a year now and have been so impressed with all the improvements they're constantly making to the app, many of which are clearly based on direct feedback and suggestions they've received from users.

Tracking your goals and progress is super easy, and the library of exercise GIFs is really helpful when you encounter an unfamiliar exercise that makes you say, "A Zercher WHAT, now?" or you need to find the best substitute for a programmed exercise during a workout.

Special shout out to all the awesome new scheduling features they recently added, since we all have different lives and needs—3, 4, or 5 day options you can switch between each week, bodyweight options if you don't have gym access, plus the new Express workout option if you're low on time?? Amazing. You get so much awesome stuff with a SBTD subscription at a very reasonable price, and I seriously couldn't do it without the app.
metalmusic_life,
Great strength gains
The good: I’ve been using this program for about a month and have seen great gains in that period of time. Other apps I’ve tried had too many bodyweight exercises or basic lifts with no accessory movements. The workouts change enough each week to keep them exciting. You can substitute exercises you don’t have the equipment for, or that might be too difficult/easy. Video demonstrations and instruction are provided for every exercise.

The improve-able: This plan can be modified, but I still lean towards it being more intermediate than beginner-friendly. That’s based primarily on workout length; I rarely finish a workout in less than 1 1/2-2 hours. One way to improve that would be to add a beginner or “express” option for the daily workouts. I can see other use cases for shortened plans - there are days I am short on time and would rather do a 30 or 60 min. workout than miss out on entirely.

Overall, I love this app and have recommended it to others.
VeganBat,
Real (Strong) Results
I’ve been using stronger by the day for a little over a year now. I was a competitive powerlifter for about two years before COVID. I was having a hard time getting back into the gym but didn’t want to pay hundreds of dollars for a coach since I wasn’t sure if I ever wanted to compete again. I decided to try SBD because of the price and the fact it focused on squat, bench, and deadlift. I wanted a program that focused on strength and not aesthetics.

Since starting SBD I’ve blown all of my competition numbers out of the water. I love that you can switch between 3, 4, and 5 days and not feel like you’re losing progress. I love that the programming switches every 2-3 months because I don’t get bored. I love that the programming is focused on progressive overload because I look jacked.

If you want a strength based program and never want to do a burpee again, SBD is for you. The folks who write the programming really know what they’re doing.
