Rats, rats, and more rats
On the iPhone version of The Blade I see rats, photos of live or dead rats between every news story. Fortunately, they don’t appear on the iPad version or on my Mac. Is this a bug that can be fixed?
TomH 05,
Worst App I Have
The Blade Newslide is by far the worst performing app on my iPhone. Slow is being kind. It typically takes about 30 seconds for the app to open, way too long in today’s technology. I usually get through 3 or 4 stories and then it will freeze for another 20-30 seconds before freeing up again. That means it freezes up 5 or 6 times each day I read through the stories.
The news reporting is the same as it’s always been, not great but not bad. That’s not my issue. The Blade needs to find a team of programmers who can fix the problems!
Cdyana,
I like the layout but...
I can’t seem to get all the obituaries to load. Seems like only 4 or 5 will show but when I jump on the other app I see them all.
sgeffe,
Please keep this..and make the new crApp “slide” away!
This app has more content, and less intrusive ads, than that horrible “NewsSlide” abomination! Send that piece of junk back to the socialists in Montreal where it belongs, and keep THIS platform!

I’d willingly pay $10 or so per year to keep this, over the platform that has only a few stories (as well as the editorials with an obvious leftward slant) instead of all the opinion pieces (including reasonable editorials), plus the numbers of stories that are on this platform, along with being able to go back a day or two. I can’t go back to reference articles on the new platform.

Again, save this app, and please make the new one like this one, with the same amount and accessibility of content, or just scrap that app and start over!

Difficult to use
Crashes repeatedly

Latest update crashes
This app has been steadily getting better, but the most recent update today (sep 18) was a step back.

Previously I was using the apps with few to no problems on the latest iPad(3). After the update today, things seem to work for the first article, but every time I try to read a second article, the screen goes white. If I try to go to home screen and come back to the app, I get an error that reads "startSession has been called already. It should only be called once", followed by the same white screen. The only way to read properly is to completely quit the app and restart between each article.

Also, when I tried to go to App support, it took me to a non-existent web page, otherwise I would have tried to report this directly to the developer.

I hold out hope that this recent set back will be quickly remedied, as I have generally enjoyed using this app.
kevcdecker,
New version is a disaster
The new version that came out around the beginning of September 205 is a total disaster. The articles are arranged in an incomprehensible jigsaw puzzle on the screen and they jump around and get re-arranged as you scroll. You end up chasing the articles around the screen. It's kind of like a game to see if you can catch your article.

Beyond that, the nav bar on the left doesn't appear when you tap the nav icon in the upper left. You have to scroll down to get to the nav bar. And then you can't even scroll all the way to the last item.

This is apparently the first foray into mobile content design ever attempted by the company who created this mess. I would suggest going back to the previous version which was at least coherent.
Stinger828,
A huge step backwards
What a disappointment. Nothing but a watered down version of what a news site should be. Heck, even the obituaries only show 1or 2names. You have to be a high ranking white collar professional or a former government, civic or Blade employee to be mentioned there.

This is a disaster of a site, that leaves out so much. If you want to see what’s going on in the Toledo area, other than the drive-by snippets that only cover a small number of things, then this is for you.

As for the rest of us that like to see more than the barest of content and variety of items, this is the pits.
Drinkblatz,
No crash on iPad 2
Works fine for me on iPad 2. Had one other news app that always crashed on iPad 1 but not on iPad 2. This may be the case here. My only problem with this app is that after looking at a zoomed in picture inside a story pushing the "back" button takes you back to the first story in the section not the article you were reading. Otherwise 5 stars.
Nokescus,
Great app...even better alerts
I like this app because it let you know her and events in each of the suburban areas of Toledo. This app also let you know Maj. things going on the city of Ohio and Michigan… And instant alerts the let you know about crime in traffic and other good news in the area.
