Vulture Island is a platform adventure with a distinct focus on exploration to tickle your curiosity.

Rather than stacking up high scores and running towards the end of each level, you get to roam freely in an open world and explore caves, swamps, temples, pirate ships and more.

You collect objects along your way, solve puzzles and talk to NPCs, all while being wrapped inside the platform gameplay mechanism we all have to come to love since the golden era of 8-bit computers and consoles.

THE PLOT

Benjamin has built a spectacular flying machine to take him and his friends around the world.
During one of the first flight sessions something goes wrong. The youngsters have no choice but to parachute themselves to safety.

After an exhausting swim Alex, Paul and Stella end up on a distant island. Barehanded and with no trace of Benjamin.

brjfhk,
Fun Adventurous Game 😃
It was very puzzling at first, but once I got the hang of it, I real enjoyed the game. The only negative thing was that it didn’t need to be 2.99
Grumps257,
Keep getting stuck
This game could sure use some instructions and a way to get hints when stuck, which is often. I really like donut games usually but this one has too many inconsistencies and it’s harder if you’ve played traps and gem stones because thet game has much better usability. I’ve persevered because I like solving problems but I am now completely stuck. It’s very frustrating to know there must be something the game makers consider obvious to do but you can’t figure what it is. Sigh.
LincolnSkye,
Could be better
I think that three dollars is too much to pay for a game that might last you one afternoon. The instructions aren’t clear at all, and the layout is kind of funky. I have loved nearly all of the other donut games, but this one has disappointed me.
Zelda Yes!!!😝😝😝,
Better than expected
At first I was reluctant to buy the game but I was drawn to the graphics because of the similar super Mario world art direction. But What i really like about the game is the hunt for items which Require a little bit of strategy but all together its fun, not too long and enjoyable.
frke,
If you like hard, old school platformers
I enjoyed “Traps n’ Gemstones” but this one is too hard and unforgiving for me. It’s classic Mario-like platformer including the tedious go back to start when you die. It’s just too tedious to be fun. I wish there was an easy mode.
philomory,
Good, but...
This is a good game, marred occasionally by pointlessly cruel level design.

I'm not referring to the regular level difficulty, which is enjoyable. Even the "invisible" death-traps (platforms that look perfectly normal but collapse when you step on them) would be fine - tiresome, but fine.

The problem is that often, good play cannot save you from them. If you jump on a new platform that turns out to collapse under you, and quickly jump back to safety, well... tough. The collapsing platform was necessary to proceed, and will never come back, so you'll need to jump into the pit and die so you can start the level over.

The levels are short, but when there are several of these situations in close proximity, it becomes a tedious exercise of trial and error rather than a fun challenge.

All that said, the game is mostly quite fun until you hit one of these patches, and it resumes being fun after them.
ZillieZephyr,
Good effort; bad UX
I want to love this game, but too often—you'll run into inconsistencies that can frustrate the player. For instance, jumping on most enemies will cause you to bounce upward, a mechanic you'll learn to utilize to solve platforming puzzles. But the alligators do not carry this mechanic, causing the player to react incorrectly to the scenario. Sometimes, when you have the correct item for an NPC, you'll get a dialogue option to react with said item. Other times, like the shell dialogue, you'll have to go through dialogue that would be seem otherwise irrelevant to the situation. One of the lizard people had the flu, but the item he needed would've been more suitable for someone with a cold. There's also a part where you have a half-coconut which acts as a mechanic for a particular puzzle. The problem with this one was that it's difficult notice a change in your character's sprite. I only notice by accident. Perhaps if the girl switched roles with the main character, it'd be much easier to see the changes.

Other issues with gameplay involve floatiness of characters

But the biggest—absolutely biggest issue I had was the lack of humor. We're stuck in a surrealist, romanticized, desert island. With all of the weird creatures and character choices, you'd think there'd be some cheeky dialogue and third-wall breaking punchlines.
BronzeSpaceComet,
Super fun
Amazing game! Donut Games has a huge variety of games, and I really liked the path they took starting with Traps n' Gemstones. This is like a RPG but at the same time, it isn't. You can explore any level at any time, but you'll find yourself going back and forth nonstop until you find the right item. There are a few frustrating areas, and they don't make it clear that collectibles aren't transferred over between characters - almost all of the game until the end is three separate adventures, one for each character. I also found myself finishing the game too early and the ending was a little bit anticlimactic. However, it's not enough to take away any stars, it's really rewarding to solve a puzzle or get past a tricky area! Bosses aren't plentiful, but the 2-3 that do exist are lots of fun. While I wouldn't say that this tops Traps 'n Gemstones, I do highly recommend this game if you liked that one. Very unique! Make more like this!
Jeremy RF,
Great Adventure Platformer
This game is great! It's probably a little different that what you imagine though. It has that classic Mario platforming feel, however the game isn't about finishing levels and going on to the next one. The map is completely open from the outset. Each "level" is a short yet unique area to explore. There are three people you can play and each one has his/her own levels to visit. You pick a few items and then you have to figure out how to use them. Talking to people and interacting with objects reveals how to use said items. As I'm writing this, I'm realizing that it sounds like plat-forming meets point and click adventure, except without the actual pointing and clicking. Just try it. It's really great. Very unique. It'll take a good 30 minutes to really appreciate it though. Good work dev-team!
NostalgicGuy,
Slightly new take on old mario games
If you're tired of "one touch controls" games, this is for you. This game reminds me of playing as Luigi in old Mario games with slightly slippery physics (I personally like that). Apart from older Mario Platformers, the game starts with 7 open levels to explore with no flags poles at the end. You simply explore each one, find secrets and power ups, and find another level to use said power up just right. Warning: the game has a high difficulty if you're up for the challenge.
