TheDudeAbided,
Excellent
If you are looking for a deep, engaging turn-based hex-and-counter wargame on iOS, here you go, plenty of depth and with a rules set that covers everything you'd expect, but with enough folded into the background that even newbies should be able to get playing fairly quickly. WW2 in Normandy and Arab-Israeli October War or covered extensively with loads of smaller scenarios and big campaigns, all historical and well-balanced. Good graphics, clear without being cartoony.

AI is better in small games, but the larger battles are where the game really shines. The UI takes some getting used to -- how to examine stacks of units, or how to add support to a combat -- but everything becomes clear with a few plays. IAP gets you bigger scenarios and is well worth it.

It runs smoothly on both an iPad 3 and Pro. The only reason this review is missing the fifth star is because there are problems with online multiplayer. This game would be so great playing human opponents. I think this is a big reason that the game remains so underrated, if online play was active, there would be a bigger following.

It has been long time since an update, but the third installment, the Eastern front battle of Kharkov, is near complete. Hopefully the developers will continue to support this excellent game.
Beauoh,
Hesitant I was
Still a bit early for a review after only 4 battles. So far so good. Maybe a little easy so far but time will tell and I will update.
Jason120721,
Really good war game
This is just a fantastic war game. Graphics are very good right down to the history of each unit and equipment piece. Game play is solid with a good amount of strategy. There a few issues like text getting cutoff in the events in the journal and large explosions graphics that are black polygons (hardly ever see it). But these minor issues are just that, minor.... And rare. If you like historical war gaming then you'll love this. Can't wait to play the other WW2 and civil wars battles that are coming soon.
Orcalaw,
Excellent Wargame
Lots of fun, really evokes the feel of board war gaming but also very easy to get into; would happily recommend it to anyone with an interest in strategic games and/or history even if they had no war gaming experience. Love all the history packed in - the daily briefings, unit histories, equipment profiles etc. Currently there are battles for the 1973 Arab-Israeli October War and the 1944 invasion of Normandy (D-day), but others are in the works. Will be interesting to see how well the engine translates to older battles like Austerlitz and Gettysburg, but I'm hopeful.

ABANDONED BY DEVELOPER - BUYER BEWARE
I would give this game 4.5 stars, if not for the fact that I feel completely ripped off. There are only a few short campaigns, with most all the content marked as "coming next," or "under construction," etc. Never happened, and apparently it never will. As it stands, this game is not worth the investment of time and purchase price to have a game that is basically over before you even get a good feel for it. Of course, you are free to play the same few minor campaigns over and over, if that type of repetitive tedium appeals to you.

THIS SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT OF THE APP STORE, IT IS UNFINISHED AND UNSUPPORTED!!! BEWARE!!!
Mungback,
Hexwar has better standards than this
Disappointing. I watched straight leg infantry run clear across the map in a single turn to capture an objective. It was further than any of the armored units could even move. Silly.

Unrealistic, and each battle is completely dependent on how many units are stacked and in contact. Artillery is indecisive. Still can’t figure out how to call for air support, as it is not apparent.

Got bored after six games and stopped.
ChrisNJ111,
Addresses neglected conflicts
One of the only games on any platform to address the Arab-Israeli conflicts. I can’t wait until the Korean War scenario is complete. I hope the developers continue to add content and continue to address conflicts that are ignored by most games.
8jazz8888,
Why was this never finished?
So many good games but this one had a chance to be great! Ahead of its time, needs to be finished.
Devilwoman21,
Really good war game
Plays well on iPad and is very reminiscent of board games without the hassle
I look forward to the new modules
Hemacu,
Why are the IAPs more expensive than the base game?
Bad pricing model. My fault for not checking, but now it will be a while until I play as I don't feel I have the full product for either Normandy or 73. Disappointed by that alone.
