Description

Bad North DOES NOT support: iPhone 5S, 6, 6 Plus, iPad Air/Mini 2, 3/iPod Touch 6th gen and lower

Your home is under attack. The king is dead at the hands of Viking invaders. Hope is a distant glimmer in the fog, fading fast with every passing moment. As you rise to take your father’s place as ruler, it will fall to you to stage your defenses. But make no mistake – this is no fight for victory, but a desperate grasp for survival.

Bad North is a charming but brutal real-time tactics roguelite. Defend your idyllic island kingdom against a horde of Viking invaders, as you lead the desperate exodus of your people. Command your loyal subjects to take full tactical advantage of the unique shape of each island. Everything is at stake: fail, and watch the blood of your subjects stain the ground red.

It’s charmingly brutal, with beautiful procedurally-generated islands and adorable soldiers juxtaposed against the blood-stained realities of war. You control the broad strokes of the battle, giving high level commands to your soldiers who try their best to carry them out in the heat of the moment. It’s accessibly deep, with simple player inputs masking a dynamic combat simulation that make it inviting to new players while challenging veterans.
Keep fighting, warriors. Not for power or riches or glory, but for hope of peace to come once again in the harsh lands of the Bad North.

Key Features

REAL-TIME TACTICS ROGUELITE: Position and relocate your troops to fend off the Vikings, who each have their own counters to the threats you pose. Pick your battles and plan your evacuations carefully! Lose a commander and they’re gone forever; lose everything, and it’s game over!

INTELLIGENT UNIT CONTROLS: You command the broad strokes of your defenses and monitor positioning — your soldiers do the rest, navigating and engaging intuitively in response to the situation at hand.

PROCEDURALLY-GENERATED ISLANDS: Each island is both stylistically charming and unique in its layout. Plan your strategies around every nook and cranny, for you only get one chance to save them from the enemy invasion.

UNLOCKABLE UPGRADES: A stronger, smarter defense leads to greater rewards. Use these to develop your subjects from a ragtag militia into seasoned warriors.

Gtownfunky48,
I just want to play!! I love this game.
This game is one of my favorite games to play because of its simple art style and intense, survivalist, gameplay. I love the level design and the progression of the enemy types. I downloaded this game knowing wholeheartedly that it had its bugs, because I wanted to give it the chance it deserved. Its an amazing game! It needs fixes, NOW. To pinpoint some of the bugs I’ve found, one being the inability to load into one of my saved campaigns, and another being a simple color shade of the island as it loads in, are some of the easy ones. Another bug that scares me is the sudden crashing that occurs when I open the upgrade screen as well as the map screen. I need fixes and I need them now. Once again, I love the game! Please fulfill my requests with an update. <3

So Good
I’ve heard a ton about crashes in this game. I have a beat up iPhone 7 and it still runs very well. I’ve played for maybe 10 hours and had about 3-4 crashes which haven’t impeded the fun and strategic appeals of this game. I was on the edge about buying it because so many people said it would barely run, but I ended up getting it and have loved it since. It’s totally worth the money. If you have an iPhone 7 or above and you’re interested, you should totally get this game. Also I’ve had it on 60 FPS instead of 30 and it makes it look way better and still runs great.

Edit: I would love to see some new type of unit, it would really spice things up for the people playing it through more than once. Maybe a catapult that you can only get later in the campaign or even a ship of your own with archers or guys with crossbows on it. Crossbows itself could be a good idea. As long as it’s not too similar to any other troops.

15 corrupted saves...
I tried to beat the game 15 times but every time after the second checkpoint it crashes, just like everyone else says. It’s unbeatable! You can’t get past 75% completion! They need to fix this, I come back to the game every two or three months hoping they’ve updated it because it’s such a game but this is getting ridiculous now... do they even read any of the reviews?

UPDATE:
Ironically like a day after I posted this, it for some reason stopped glitching so much on my latest campaign (my fifteenth). This is crazy, as I have been trying to finish a campaign without it glitching and ruining the save since last year. So I’m not sure what to give this game as a review anymore because I’m elated it finally works and want to give it five stars, but at the same time it’s odd because the game working without glitches is not the norm at all and is probably a glitch in and of itself! So I am changing my review from ONE STAR to THREE STARS

Still a bit buggy
This is a great game. Even with the patches there are still times when the app crashes or won’t load my saved file. Other than that I love the game. It’s like a real-time tactical command your troops type of game set on 3D islands that are each unique. I think the game is pretty flawless as is but there are a few things that could be improved. First I think that the special ability of the infantry units is terrible and should be replaced with something like temporary invulnerability. Second I think that there should be a reward for finishing the campaign or even the possibility of keeping your troops for other campaigns. Finally I think that the troops should be more customizable and unique. For example we should be able to name them. If you like strategy games and are thinking about buying this one do it! It’s so good!

Strategy masterpiece on the go
I own the original version on my ps4, i was exited to see there was a sequel on the store. The original game was really good, the graphics although minimalistic make the game feel real and alive. The strategy aspect of troop positioning and countering maneuvers is unmatched by other games of its kind. however the base game lacked more depth. By adding traits and more items it makes each run more unique and gives each commander its own implied background story with more added portraits . This makes the game better at storytelling. As soon as I saw the game I knew I had to purchase it. I look forward to any updates to the game or even new version building on what’s already in game. Kudos to the devs for an awesome game and keep updating the game w/ new traits/items.

Great game
Firstly I would like to say if you aren’t a fan of strategy or rouguelike games, then this one isn’t for you. If however, you are then this is by all standards a truly amazing game. It’s very complex and highly replayable, and each time you start over you’ve learnt something new, a different way to us a unit maybe, the best way to combat an enemy. That’s part of the fun of the game, just learning different things along the way. Unless you’re super stuck I wouldn’t recommend looking something up for this game because like I said learning’s part of the fun. I’ve spent many hours playing this game and it’s 100% worth your time (and $5), and the devs have done an amazing job with it.

Amazing Game
I have been looking for a game with this type of strategy for a very long time. This game offers a beatable game that won’t take ten minutes but hours while being able to hold you attention.

Things I want to see in the future-
I would like to see if possible that resources could be collected to build a castle at “your home”, and have that castle get tested by the Vikings.
I would also like to see bigger island and more squads to control. Four is a good number but there were times I craved an all out war between the Vikings and 5-6 squads of my guys. Another thing I think would be awesome is there was another goal to meet in the game that continues the in game growth. Once I get to the last level I don’t want to start over I want to continue on and maybe in the future build castles, collect resources and have a castle defense to it that is permanent.
And last I wish that we could play from the opposite perspective. Let us play as Vikings and coordinate our own attacks on islands and explore the world, pillaging and building bigger and better boats and weapons

Overall this Game is beautiful, but I see so much more in it! Can’t wait for an update!
VinderKund,
Amazing game devastated by bugs
I love. This game. The simple strategy allows for so much deliberation and hard decisions, and the art style alone is enough to sell the game. I’ve managed to beat it once, but when I went to load up my next campaign- all of my data was gone. All of my traits, my codex, my items were just completely wiped from my game- factory reset. It’s disheartening to work hard through multiple campaigns for all of that time to just be washed away, which is such a shame for such an amazingly designed game. The gameplay itself is nearly bug-free, however anything that comes to data is a complete crapshoot. I wish I could praise this game higher, but for a $3 game that I also have problems with on switch, I would hope these game breaking bugs were fixed earlier.
Der Oberstleutnant,
Fun, but not great
First of all I want to say that I haven’t had any bugs or crashes. I guess it’s a role of the dice if it crashes for you or not, but the game is perfectly fine for me. The problem is that it gets boring. It’s like watching a movie. The first time you play it is really fun, but the more you play, the worse it gets. The same thing happens every time. You progress through the islands and eventually get to the end just to repeat the process. The game will only last a few hours before you’re done. After that, you just repeat the game. You can unlock different starter abilities, but that’s about the only difference between play through. There’s not enough content to have the price tag that it has. I would recommend it if it was free, but I can’t recommend the game with the price it has.
realdaveed,
Beautiful design, repetitive gameplay
You basically just deploy units to fight off invaders. That’s it. I appreciate the design of the game and that you have to think strategically about where to move which units, utilize terrain, etc. but after a while it gets a little boring. It would be great if the combat was just one part of the game, and players would also have to manage resources and defenses of the islands themselves. Taxation, revenue, fortifications, economies, trade — these could all be used to impact success. It would make the game much more complex, interesting and re-playable. I’d even pay more for that.

Also, I’m experiencing reload issues; the game kept hanging while islands were being generated at startup. I deleted my game and tried a new one, but that didn’t work. So I uninstalled and reinstalled. We’ll see...
