It is never legal for a player to make a move that puts or leaves the player's own king in check.

Robby Roadkill,
Not bad. Not good either.
After a recent upgrade in which they said improvements were made to make the app more competitive and enforce fair play, it took a turn for the worse. My points went from over 18,000 to 2,500. I used to win most of my games. All of the sudden I’m losing the majority of my games. Now it feels like I’m playing against a bot.
Still hasn’t fixed its misunderstanding of chess rules when it comes to long castling. Your rook CAN pass through an attack!
fatguyintulsa,
Playing with friends, it’s great. CPU, terrible.
This is a great app for playing with friends online. That said, there could be some improvements made. The stats page is completely useless and inaccurate. If you’re playing the cpu, the game is definitely unbalanced. The game will be declared a draw if you corner the king or eliminate most of the cpu pieces almost immediately. But if you get cornered, the cpu gets endless moves to win the game and avoid a draw. The cpu is mind numbingly predictable. There are other issues but on the whole, it’s a pretty decent app to connect with friends and have a good time so I don’t want to beat the developers up too much; they prob have no budget and it’s free to us. The very rapid draw declaration when I’m winning the game is super annoying.
Indie_girl8,
Not enough real people play
This game’s online matches mostly consist of AI that makes no mistakes. I downloaded this app to play other people. Playing other humans is more forgiving than playing a perfect chess computer. It’s mostly frustrating. Not even fun anymore. I’m giving it two stars because it’s helped me get better at chess but I hardly run into real people…and when I do, it’s people who like to harass you and ask all kinds of personal questions 🙃
Cloudbreaker9,
Agree with Robby
The app was great until they updated it recently. Like Robby, my score went down considerably after the update and I have to attribute this to the number of bots that I have been playing. I say this, because the moves are very mechanical in timing: Nearly identical timing of every move. For example, I notice the bots making moves within the same 5-10 second time frame(around 20-25 seconds on the 60 second clock.

This varies between bots, but the consistency of the 5-10 second window is something that humans can rarely do on a consistent basis. Hopefully this will be fixed.

A good fix for the programmers to consider.

1. Notify the user they are playing a bot.
2. Offer an option for the user to abandon the game against the bot without losing points prior to the users first move.

Lastly, if users wanted to play a bot, they would play offline. It was a 5-star app prior to the update.
Jackfetch,
Bots?
I’m convinced that nearly all of the “online” players are all bots that instantly resign to produce ad revenue. I started counting after noticing a trend, and out of the last 100 games I tried, 3 didn’t instantly resign, and 2 timed out. So, the 95 and the 2 all had the same country flag.
It’s good if you want to play with friends, but the notifications don’t overwrite themselves on iOS, so you have to keep clearing them out.
Koralis89,
i have so many complaints about this system it’s basicly
it’s basicly that they fail in every form to function at everything from knowing whether its players are online to keeping track of points to even functioning as a most basic rule engine there are literally games wher i’ve taken off the board because of glitching and the game doesn’t end and don’t even get me started it’s great for i want online chess now but besides that you might aswell delete your acount the minute you make it cause it’s worth about as much to you i had a streak of 40 games and my acount streak is currently 3 this app makes me want to rip my hair out at the level of its malfunction and the fact that they ignore all the errors tells me that the dev team give no shucks about the actual app as long as it’s up all theycare about
Blanch21,
Too many problems
For one I used to be rated over 4000, I took some time off due to work and when I come back I’ve lost over half of my rating. Now I’m in the 1750 area and I can’t get over 1800 due to my points declining even AFTER WINNING. There’s also no punishment to people who will play out 90% of a game and then once they’re in a losing position they’ll just abandon the game while I sit and wait for the time to run out. It’s not even an enjoyable app anymore.
David_ellis,
Not bad to pass time
Against the computer to just waste time is bout to bad. But online play makes no sense. One second a piece can only move one square way no matter how open the travel route is them Next you can move the king like it’s a queen piece and clear the board with only him left. Either it’s this game or I was playing hackers
Tired Sitter,
Game stopped
I downloaded the game and played frequently with several friends. Then for no reason, it stopped allowing me to start games with my friends. We would send each other game requests and nothing would show. I’d click on my friends game that was ongoing and it wouldn’t open to let me move. It was good before that. I had several people download it. Until they fix it, I’m deleting.
realmikehardy,
Crash loop after password reset.
Can’t get in after password reset. Now the game just crashes after login. Ideas?

I had it working fine on iPhone, but wanted to use same account on iPad. Didn’t know login so opened account on iPhone and saw which email address used, then logged out of app on iPhone thinking I’d be able to see my saved password. Bad idea apparently.
