First off great game! Art is great, overall gameplay is hard but fair.
That being said after beating every map on gothic I have some gripes with the balancing:
This game shoe horns you into specific builds and skills… I.e. it becomes clear that some skills you always take (Solaris and smite) and some you avoid (grasp and ice shards)… this definitely becomes apparent as you upgrade skills. I spent the better half of my gameplay experimenting with all the skills leveling them up to 10 just to see if they get some huge upgrade. Some do, some don’t. Some are just as useless at lvl 10 as they are at lvl 1 and others get super op: (I.e. smite goes from 1-4 bolts and has huge damage)…
Overall I suggest reworking the skill upgrades to make each one more balanced and definitely make these more powerful: torrent, sparks, tornado, ice shards, shuriken, grasp, fireball, slash….
And LVL 10 ON A SKILL SHOULD ALWAYS GIVE A HUGE UPGRADE TO THE SKILL… again this seems to be the case with some skills but not all.
Secondly defensive skills should be instituted: phase (become invincible for a second or two), shield (get a boost to defense, similar to empower.), Health (gain max health), shove (every few seconds your character pushes mobs back in movement direction)
Third: add another difficulty level AND make the charms upgradeable… maybe add 3 ranks to each charm that can get them more powerful for the higher difficulty.
