Description

Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus is a brand-new turn-based tactical strategy game set in the eternal conflict of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 Universe.

In Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus, you bring some of the universe’s most powerful warriors to lightning-fast tactical skirmishes where you are in full control and only superior tactics can deliver victory. Expand your collection across multiple factions to find new tactical possibilities as you bring your troops to battle and sweep the galaxy clear of all resistance!

New players and grizzled fans of the Warhammer universe alike will find challenge in Tacticus, as they progress and compete in various game modes, including PvE Campaigns, PvP, live events, Guild Raids and much more.

CREATE THE ULTIMATE WARBAND
It’s your task as a collector to build your collection into an elite league of warriors capable of meeting any challenge. Equip your heroes with the ultimate gear, wrestled from the hands of your enemies, to enhance their attacks, armor, and abilities on the battlefield. Not every warrior is ideal for every task, however: Make key strategic choices in who to promote and pick teammates with complimentary abilities to maximize your chances in battle!

ENGAGE IN TURN-BASED BATTLES
Strategic choice in how to build your squad is only the beginning. Once the enemy closes, you must take advantage of terrain and positioning, as well as deploying your troops’ weaponry, specific traits and specialist abilities, to prevail. Martial skill reigns supreme!

RISE TO THE TOP
Choose your alliances wisely! Collaborate within your guild in raids against some of the most dangerous beings of the galaxy. You must unleash your guild’s entire arsenal of heroes and tactical tricks to outsmart the relentless enemy and establish your guild's dominance on the top of the global leaderboards.

Progress blocks
Let me start by saying that I love this game. Some of the missions frustrate me though. Missions that require x amount of damage of a specific type are one example. Certain damage types are fairly common across characters, races, and factions. Some, however, are very specific to few characters which makes achieving them grindy. Fortunately with daily missions there is an option to reroll one mission per day. Event missions do not have this feature which presents challenges. Missions that target x kills of a certain race or faction are pretty easy to complete, unless a player doesn’t have access to all of the campaigns. An example of this is finding Chaos units without Fall of Cadia mirror unlocked. Arenas doesn’t offer a consistent format for headhunting in this fashion since opponent teams are “random” and victories become harder to achieve as you rank up. As well, this hinders progress in event mission chains, players being unable to efficiently finish these mission types. My only other big gripe is x10 requisition rolls. Getting orbs in half of the drops, or 5 character shards on rolls is wildly unsatisfying. I fear requisitions far more than I enjoy them.
TheTrenk,
Surprisingly good
The game’s got a lot of great points. The artwork and animation stand out and the gameplay itself is engaging (there are enough things to track that you stay entertained but few enough that you don’t get confused, a bad decision can make or break the game, and the hero abilities feel fun, responsive, and impactful). The progression and character unlock systems are rewarding, too.

My complaints are that the game is very grinding driven. A lot of the experience is locked behind time gates or pay walls, and I’m not convinced that a series of missions that will provide maybe 20-30 minutes of dedicated gameplay are worth an hour or two’s pay - particularly not since there aren’t a lot of voluntary ad options with which to bypass obstacles. You’re looking at paying $30 for heroes that use the same resources as everybody else (so once you spend the money you don’t get to play the game more, just differently) followed by multi-hour waits to go through surges of gameplay that last, at most, five to ten minutes. It can be extremely frustrating, which makes me hesitant to spend money, which is sad because a lot of the heroes look like fun! The dollar to entertainment ratio just isn’t weighty enough.

Great way to burn through a few hours before you start hitting plateaus and getting frustrated. There are also a few bugs and oversights here and there but they’re not major. The main issue is how aggressively the devs decided to enforce a glacial rate of play.
C.P.K.S.,
Massive pay wall, event, and pay to win PVP
This game is fun don’t get me wrong but seriously it almost like everything and i mean EVERYTHING is locked behind a 20 to 30$ pay wall it’s so hard to be free to play because you know you’re never going to achieve what the game demands you to have, for example the chaos campaign (and all the campaigns) can only be completed if you pay real money to upgrade your units when if you’re free to play you have to grind nonstop and sadly end up quitting the campaign at level 43 (67 if your on the first campaign) because everything one shots you from a imperial soldier that’s supposed to be weaker then you to the the coms unit that keeps calling for backup and sadly the PVP is also affected by the pay to win where players in 4 million to 10 million power are fighting people who are in the 4 to 2k’s (I’m not making it up that’s literally almost all the players I’ve had to fight and I’m on veteran league) and even the events have been affected by Pay to wins! Where it’s impossible to be a “good player” when you’re always and forever be dead last because you’re a free to play it hard to love this game when you feel like the game is against you because you refuse to spend money I hope the developers see this because I think this is going to be the most honest review they are going to get and I hope they can make this game less about money and more about the players having fun
ZombieWyvern,
This game is nearly worth a 5 star
I want to start off by saying I’m pretty picky when I want a strategy game, I’ve normally stuck to Nintendo brand releases but decided to try this out because of my love for the 40K universe. I so far haven’t been disappointed with the constant releases of updates, what so far seems to be a competent balancing system and a continuous expansion of characters to add to a 5 man team of either Xeno scum crushers or da way of da skul crushaz. My only 2 complaints are I am not a fan of how hard the monetization is pushed and secondly I dislike how restrictive the starter characters are. I understand that you don’t want to overwhelm any potential new customers but to me most people playing this game are newbies to veterans of the 40K tabletop and are aware of the potential in and outs of this game. I wish only that from the get go I could have played as the Orks but again I understand it’s for a teaching experience and to be able to grasp the mechanics and abilities units have I simply wanted a broader starter selection in order to immediately make my own style not buy or grind to earn a new game style.
Tallasswhiteguy,
A good game buried under greedy gatcha
The sad part is that this is functionally a very good and fun game, if they would eliminate all the unnecessary and egregious wait times to even play most of its enjoyable features. Almost every character and level gives upgrades necessary to level up your crew and continue winning, but every level has an arbitrary number of times you can play every day. Additionally said rewards often don’t drop according to the rng. So you can wait an entire day, play that level for the needed resource, get none, run out of chances to play said level for a day or more, waste your precious “energy” resource so you can’t play any other levels or events, then rinse and repeat tomorrow. Most likely with the same results based on the rng. Meaning you can not level your characters consistently and enjoyably and cannot progress past difficult stages or events. All the funnest game and challenge modes have 15-24 hour arbitrary cool downs for the same reasons. To increase frustration and force you to spend money, which again based off the rng and random loot boxes means you probably won’t get anything you were hunting for to actually help you in game. It’s sad. The game was probably very good and enjoyable until it was split up into 15-24 hour waiting cues and all sorts of rng nonsense and frankly stupid reasons to essentially not be able to play the game.
Verus D.,
Simple, Yet Content-rich
The gameplay is straightforward and easy to grasp, but there is enough content to hold my interest and give me something to work toward that I’m happy to stick with it. I’m just getting into Warhammer 40K and this has been fun. It doesn’t have the Grim Dark aesthetic I might have expected (like comparing the aesthetic of Diablo 3 to that of Diablo 2), but it’s forgivable. You can pay for upgrades if you like, but I haven’t bought anything yet and haven’t felt deprived of any meaningful progress or gameplay experience.

Edit: a few days later, I feel differently. The core gameplay is still fun and my opinion of the visuals hasn’t changed. However, having made some progress, I have a few problems: 1) progress is limited by unnecessary resources that are on timed cooldowns (e.g. you can’t deploy on a mission without x amount of energy, which is a finite resource), 2) certain game modes are only playable with characters of specific factions, but those characters are practically inaccessible without spending real money, and 3) characters and resources available for purchase are really expensive.
Fox218,
It’s fun but….
It’s a lot of fun starting off!!! But now I spend 99% of my time farming upgrades, which means I’m hitting the “raid” option on campaign battles (auto battles for you) to farm upgrades. Progress starts off at a fun rewarding rate but it slowly grinds to a halt. I let my energy max out and then spam the raid button until I run out (happens quickly due to energy limits) and wait for 10 hours to max it out again to upgrade my characters for tonight battles. I love the theme but it’s loosing the fun factor. Guild raids, arena, salvage and onslaught all have timers for each event creating a lot of down time. If you want a week or two of really fun game play with the campaign (need characters to unlock other campaigns if FTP very long unlock rate) then this is for you (short term players). if you are a whale and want to sink money into this game then you’ll love it (long term players). Don’t waste time on the season pass, mediocre rewards and you basically have to pay for enough energy to complete it. Don’t spend a dollar, have a blast for a couple of weeks and move on. Or be a whale and fight other OP whales in the arena.
MlgproHwnt,
Blocking progression and OP AI
Great game characters and gameplay are sound along with music battlefields and sound affects. HOWEVER the lack of attention towards AI and the need and marketing for buying to progress is very off putting. Imagine getting to the fourth boss (plasmancer thutmose) in the first campaign with all your characters above the usual level for that battle (or at least I assumed given if the first freaking campaign) the boss can one shot nearly all of your units in just two of his moves. He was so frustrating to beat that I had to spend days to figure out a way to get three stars. Then I unlocked him and he’s the worst character in my roster arguably. Weak to the point of one shot by a sniper in the mirror campaign, attack damage on his special attack didn’t even do half damage to tormagaunt enemy AI. Absolutely ridiculous that they will then release character battles for people to play and be interested in a legendary character only for that character to be almost impossible for lower levels to obtain and rewards purchasing rather than dedicating time to the game. Disappointment is an understatement.
About 12 pandas,
A massive issue with keeping players.
I think the game has a lot of potential. Certain stages are very difficult but satisfying when finally completed. The biggest issue with the game is the structure of the gatcha system. When you do a single pull, you can get orbs (for upgrading units), shards, or characters of common, uncommon, rare, or legendary rarity for one of the factions. The fact that you can pull legendary orbs without owning a single legendary unit feels like a slap in the face especially for how stingy the game is when it comes to giving you the option to summon without spending money. I could play this game for a full year and have a stock pile of legendary orbs with no units to use them on if rng dictates. Also for the cherry on top, can someone tell me why I can get legendary necron orbs when there is no legendary necron unit???? If you want to fix this issue then only allow legendary orbs to show up after you get a legendary unit for that faction. Otherwise you will see a lot of players delete the app after getting multiple legendary orb drops in a row. My last 3 legendary pulls were all orbs ;_;
cwwabg,
For the love of the Gods, do not accidentally delete data
Had this game on an old phone and connected to Game Center. Got a new phone and reinstalled game on new phone. All good at this point. Started to play and it would not let me skip tutorial to sign in with the Game Center. Once I was able to do so, it told me an existing game was present and asked if I wanted to do switch. I said yes and nothing happened, I was then prompted to ask if I wanted to delete the data, assuming it meant the current game.

Nope it deleted everything. Only option it gave me was to reinstall to play. It sucked but it’s a decent time sink so I started over. Decided to make a couple purchases to get going again, nothing major. After a couple of days I figure I better back up my game. Hit the button to connect to Game Center and as soon as I did, new game is nuked. Message pops up your game is deleted and if you want to play again reinstall game.

Original game and purchases gone, new game and purchases gone. Tried a third time and once I got past tutorial and connected to Game Center third game is gone with the only option to reinstall. Whatever you do don’t delete and find a way to back up the game other than just Game Center
