5.NF Use equivalent fractions as a strategy to add and subtract fractions.
6 NF Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division to divide fractions by fractions.

"This is a fantastic app for 4th grade students and up. It reviews the procedures for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions in the instructions and gives the users challenges. The best part is probably the ability for users to challenge their friends and connect using different devices close by!" -
Challenging App by M.L.I.S - Version 1.4 - Apr 14, 2013

Many classrooms don't have the resources for every student to have an iPad. Fortunately, there are ways to solve this problem and still get the most out of the 4 Dice game.

1. One Device with Multiple Players

This is usually a situation where there is one device, which is probably owned by the teacher. Write the problem out on the board. Have each student get out a piece of paper and a pencil or use the printable version of the game. Set a time limit - one minute is recommended - to have each student try to solve the problem on the board.

2. A Few Devices with Multiple Players

This is usually a situation where there are a few devices, but not enough for everyone to have their own. Let students work in small groups with one device. A blank piece of paper or the printable board can be used to record work. To do this:

Create a multiplayer username (ex. Group 1)
Use the numbers rolled on the device and solve the problem
Input the information from the answer into the device to check it

3. Multiple Devices with Multiple Players

If there are enough devices for everyone, there are four basic options: let students work individually, break students into small groups of two or three, split off into groups of two and compete as partners, or play as a classroom.

Frances Amato,
Nice Math App!
I love that this app can be played between two players. By allowing students to connect they can group and play together. Another thing that I like about the app is that you can send progress reports. Also, using it with a variety of students you are able to be used with multiple players in order to track progress with different classes throughout the day. I see over eighty students and this app would be helpful for an educator a similar position. I like the white board feature as well. It is wonderful that students get the chance to work out the problems as they would on scrap paper.
Overall, the app does encourage students to use higher-order thinking. I also like that when shaking; kids can shake the ipad to throw the dice. What I love is when using this app with students it promotes that players use problem solving skills for adding, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions.I like how it gives that answer and you must find out what would give you the answer by working with the four dice that you roll.
Bella Momma,
Email function doesn't work
My daughter just got this app today, and I tried to email her score to her teacher, but it keeps failing. I also tried to email the printable sheets to myself and that also failed. Is this a temporary glitch or a bug that needs to be fixed?
electricbolt7,
Seriously?
I got this app to help me study for my math and BIG suprise it doesn’t work! It freezes ALL THE TIME and I didn’t even get a chance to play since it was freezing up. Don’t get this app and DON’T waste your time like I did getting it!
Pingu Pants,
Disappointed
Confusing and slow
Me2U4everyone,
Amazing
It is the most amazing game ever
SD_SLP,
Impressive!
This app was extremely enjoyable for me because I enjoy math. I love the problem solving and critical thinking skills that were addressed by having the user figure out the equation while having the answer. I love the Bluetooth capabilities. That was interesting to say the least! I think is is appropriate for middle school age kiddos who need a challenge. If the user struggles with math, this could cause frustration.
May Day,
excellent game
this is an excellent game for young students. It helps to develop math & logic capability to some extent. The game is touch and challenging even to a teacher. At first, ones may think it's quite easy to play as all the pieces are there and they just have to put them to the right place, but they would end up hours with countless number of trial n error attempts. Since there is no certain formula to solve, therefore a proper way to approach the problems is very important. The more my students play it, the more likely they will develop themselves a good strategy to approach and solve it. This kind of game has been proven helpful for maths skill development.
Bluvd1,
Mostly good, but...
This app is easy to use and a great way to build skills. There is one flaw, however. Students who come up with equivalent answers but different denominators are told the answer is wrong. For instance, the game tells you -5/4 is not equal to -10/8. Clearly it is, but this was confusing and frustrating to my students who would have gotten this right on an assessment. It is great as an option for practice, but students who value scores for their hard work get frustrated when they are penalized, in my opinion, unfairly. Someone needs to think a little more outside the box.
Ezigbo,
Great math game
A very good app to help learners practice the four basic functions with fractions. In this unique approach, players use numbers rolled in dice to build an equation to match a provided solution. The Bluetooth feature allows multi-player games in two devices. This amplifies the competition hook that appeals to young students. Based on a great concept, this app promises to solidify learners' grasp of the math concepts they practice.
