Great update, even greater frustrations
Definitely loving the new update after they fixed the annoying scrolling bug however there are still issues that need to be addressed but I will only discuss two that I didn’t find highlighted in other reviews.
1. Video playback freezes when using the scrub bar and sometimes I get just audio when scrubbing while the video remains frozen.
2. What adds to that frustration is the fact that you need sniper aim with your finger on the scrub bar otherwise you just end up enabling the side menu (right swipe) or a different feed (left swipe) when fast forwarding or rewinding a video. Would be cool if there was an option to disable the swipe gestures all together because I find myself accidentally enabling them sometimes when scrolling the feed.
Maybe when the swiping is disabled there could instead be two buttons on each side to activate them or the easier fix is maybe enabling it only when a user swipes closer to the bezel only and not anywhere on the app.
Not sure if devs see our devices along with our reviews but just in case, I’m on an iPhone X with the latest software and I get the video freezing issue on both WiFi and LTE. And yes I have tried countless times reinstalling the app and deleting any pertinent history of the app off my phone as well as the app’s cache in the settings menu before I do a reinstall.

Back in my day!
Ah yes, 9gag, the beautiful app created to help pass the time. Whether you are bored at home, in a waiting room, or needing to pass the time for whatever other reason - 9gag is your companion. I've been a user for too many years to count (somewhere between 6-9 years) and I have enjoyed the ease of the app, the dank memes, but most of all the community. Since the app has asked me to rate them and I've been putting it off for some time now, I figure why not. These days the memes are more scarce than they once were and it seems like a lot of content gets through to the hot page that is questionable considering many of us have seen it for the millionth time. With enough time I'm sure I'll see it all but thankfully 9gag still is able to offer me some new things I haven't seen. Often I find myself cracking up at the comments more than the posts themselves but then again, I'm still entertained! And that is the point of the app. I'm giving this four stars because the app could be better. Mainly, I think the developers should find a way to stop recycled memes (as well as bs Twitter/IG screenshots) to find their way to the hot page as it is one of the biggest complaints that I see in the community and definitely one of my biggest complaints as well. Get past that and I think this app could come back to its former glory. Until then I'll just keep trotting along and making my way to the comment sections to have a good laugh.

Hey 9gag, i would like to say that i use the app everyday on my phone and find it hilarious. All the anime posts could be done away with but never the less the community is vast and so too are the interests so i just deal with it. The app is excellent and keep up the good work. Also, ignore all these reviews bashing you about the ads. Honestly yes they are annoying, like they would be anywhere but honestly i dont even notice them, im a simple man, i see an app and i simply keep scrolling, it really is not a big deal so dont let the negative reviews due to them get to you, thats quite unfair of the users to bash you over something so minuscule. Keep up the great work!

9GAG is Fake
After spending about a year on 9GAG, I realized that 9GAG admin (located in china) will seal posts from anywhere and everyone and regurgitate is as their own original content. This fits with the normal operating procedure for the country in general. What happens is you end up seeing the same exact posts each day. Sometimes you’ll see identical posts with different titles. Sometimes gifs will have less pixels because they’ve been copied and pasted. Avoid this app at all cost. It’s literally one of the most dishonest apps to exist. They will steal you original content and use it over and over until it drives people mad. The app generates its own likes to appear popular and it’s own echo chamber of comments.
I wouldn’t be surprised if 20 9GAG employees in china get paid to steal memes and generate random comments all day.
Also, this app is incredible racist. And I’m not being dramatic about that. The Chinese bots or admins often generate extremely racist posts. This app is the single worst social media app to exist.

Bugs everywhere
This app became very visually unappealing. As I’m reading through I notice most and best reviews addressing actual issues are still rating 5 stars. How is that going to improve this app? Scrolling and viewing posts is different it seems we’re taking steps back because now you can’t scroll left and right, any sort of settings regarding your profile are not working. Why do I need to wait 6 days to change my profile picture yet you don’t have a problem selecting a random one for me before the 6 days is up? Everything is so SLOW and SLUGGISH, it seems SLOWER, less user friendly, you end up in the APP STORE about 15 times while using the app for 5 minutes because the ads and ad placement is just atrocious. Comments do not always post, the whole comment section of posts became worse and once again visually unappealing. Everything seems out of order and it’s so hard to view your notifications and know what is new and what is old. Is this 2008? It seems we went back 10 years.

Ads are ridiculous
I understand a free app needs ad service to remain free; however, it’s beginning to affect how the app works. There are ads posted after every three posts and always an add at the bottom of the screen, which again, is completely fine. What I cannot stand is ads will also take over the screen randomly as you’re using it and will happen within 2-5 min of using the app. On multiple occasions, however, i was forced to close the app and reopen it as the ads could not be clicked out of. I’ve been using this app for years but I seriously think I’m done after seeing how ad service has more priority than the actual users. Way to go 9GAG, you sold out in the hopes people will pick up your overpriced “Pro” version while leaving the free users to use a broken app that essentially is a way for you to solely receive ad revenue. Fix your mess and go back to being the hub for a wonderful community.

Hot, Trending & Fresh Are All Mixed Together
App needs an update. I noticed this issue yesterday. I scroll Hot when I’m busy, and Trending and Fresh when I have hours so kill on the app. It’s been frustrating see posts with single or double digit upvotes in the Hot sections or seeing a few thousand upvotes on posts in the Freah section. Another thing that’s been going on for month, maybe even longer but I downvote any post that doesn’t make me laugh or say “huh” with interest. When the app reloads itself(which is also very annoying), all my itself, I’ll scroll back to where I left off and noticed everything I downvotes no longer is voted. At all. I know it’s a Chinese app and lots of sketchy stuff goes on but, really? Come on. If I don’t like a post I should be able to keep my vote wether it’s good or not. Crazy posts deserve to keep your negative vote. Been using 9GAG since 2009 and it’s never been this bad.

9gag is a great source of memes, but the implementation leaves something to be desired. The app for iOS has bugs. It will randomly close, it will reset where your place was in scrolling, it will randomly play audio from a video you viewed previously when you open it back up, it will begin playing video if you touch anywhere on the screen after pausing a video, like when you are done watching it and attempt to scroll away. The advertisements are getting more intrusive, the share menu loads and then loads some more, so when you try to download a meme, the menu moves on you and you press copy instead. The community is half garbage with leftist Twitter bots having free reign, woke advertisements, and lots of anti-western sentiment and hatred for U.S. 9gag implemented blocking, but then implemented 'post as anonymous' to avoid being blocked. Just a thoroughly frustrating experience with the leftist bullies on here and their constant Twitter trash ranting.

I’ve been asking about the benefits of getting Pro + (and how to buy it) quite a lot. Using the “Ask” button or the one that says Feedback. Three times I have ask.. and there’s CERO response on this regards. Why aren’t you paying any attention to those questions? Do you guys even check every once in a while that or those buttons are just there for decoration? Come on guys....
And one more thing; sometimes, when scrolling, you get the sound of videos of posts you already passed.. of video you left behind. English is not my native language, I apologize if I’m not making this point properly clear. Thanks.

9GAG is why I love and hate the world.
I actually like the app. It has funny memes and videos and also cool down to earth people who you may find a connection with. I have been on it for years and lately have being slowly moving away from 9gag. Unfortunately all of that funny good memes and videos are downplayed by the fact that everybody complains and race baits every single time they can. Example: Witcher came out and for those who haven’t seen it, was great. After not being on the app for a while due to all the negativity, I picked it back up again. First thing I see is literally a post about if black people didn’t see a black person in the Witcher they would complain about diversity vs An Asian person not giving 2 looks back. I immediately deleted the app. Unfortunately, the 9GAG I knew and loved is gone now.
