Description

The Alaska Department of Fish & Game realizes that people are now accustomed to carrying a lot of information and credentials on their mobile device. This mobile app is designed for anglers and hunters in Alaska and designed to enhance pre-trip planning and in-field experience. It provides access to the information and services needed to follow applicable hunting and fishing regulations. Currently, that includes the following:
• Display licenses, permits and big game locking-tag records – The mobile app allows you to purchase and view your hunting, fishing, trapping, and most combination licenses. You can also obtain big game locking-tag records, commercial crewmember licenses, hunting permits, harvest tickets, and some personal use fishing permits. All licenses, permits, and big game locking-tag records are valid to carry and display to enforcement in the field on your mobile device.

• View Hunting and sport fishing regulations – The mobile app allows you to view all current hunting regulations (including some personal use regulations) for the entire state. Additionally, you can view hunting regulations based on your physical location, search locations statewide, and download maps and regulations for offline use. In the future, the mobile app will include support for sport fishing regulations.

• Record Harvest – The mobile app allows you to record hunting and fishing harvests in the field and report some personal use fishing harvests.

• Sport fish species identification – Additional features include separate sections for a species identification guide complete with images and text descriptions of commonly targeted sport fish species; definitions, regional and statewide methods and means, prohibited acts and other necessary regulatory content that is not displayed at site specific or sub-levels.

Hudson508Hawk,
Hopeful!
So I am excited to use this app. However I have not been able to successfully log into the app yet. It seems to be a glitch on the choose your login page when you choose the ADFG login it doesn’t let you use your myGoogle to sign in. If you watch it flickers briefly like it’s going to show on the website when you log into ADFG.

Hopeful it gets fixed.

Last year the SO and I were bemoaning the fact that it is so hard to try to figure out the fishing regs based on location, that he should develop an app and sell it to ADF&G. We talked about the features it should have and so on. Well, I just found out it now exists! My first challenge (after signing in twice) was that I have a permanent senior license and I couldn’t figure out how to upload it. So I poked around the “store” of tags and licenses and it is available for “sale” with a zero dollar cost. I entered my info and when the transaction was complete it reflected the original date I got my permanent ID card. Pretty slick! Especially since the physical card is pretty worn.
Looks like it has the right features- time will tell when we go to use it later this year.
CaribouCrossing,
I legitimately love this app
I know I rated it 4 stars, and I’ll get into why, but I legitimately love this app. I love that the troopers count the app as proof of a license when fishing and dipnetting so you no longer need paper copies or duplicates or have to worry about them getting wet. As long as your phone has charge and turns on, you’re good to go. Same for the hunting license. My only complaint, really more of a hopeful suggestion, is that hunting draw tag information isn’t imported so you still need to carry paper tags for any hunts that aren’t general season tags. I’d love for that to be an added feature in the future. Aside from that, the ease of reporting fishing, dipnetting, and general season hunt results - even when offline - is so nice! Solid work by ADF&G.

So Far OK, Time Will Tell
Downloaded onto a current generation iPad Pro. Tablet is up to date with all apps and the OS. The app developer contacted me regarding my 1 star review. They resolved the issue with logging in both on the app and on the AK F&G website. Messing around with the app, the only immediate thing I see is I can't upload documents to it. By this, I mean my permanent hunting and fishing license. It shows me an option to buy one, and then I assume it will display a new license, but folks like me that due to age or disability have been issued permanent ones no longer have to buy them. How do we display these in the app? I will revise my review as needed. So far, I'm glad the state is stepping into current times with this option.
CMK1425,
Not worth your time.
I’ve tried multiple times to get this app to workover the last year plus and it’s a waste of time. First they ask you to login in using your my alaska or fish and game login. I use my Alaska and it tells me I need to create a fish and game login then it tells me I already have an account with fish and game and to use the recovery tool to login. Apparently it’s linked to my Facebook account and it’s clearly not. I would never link this to Facebook and when I try to log in through Facebook it tells me no account is registered under my name or Facebook. The only way I can get a fishing license online is if I sign in as a guest on the website. Seems like an absolute miss for someone who was born and raised in Alaska. As an Alaskan we should only need one login to access what we need to do through the states websites.
WorldwideTraveler,
Works great so far
Got my license, king tag, and personal use permit through ADFG website using myAlaska login. I then logged Into this app using myAlaska login, and it was seamless and transparent. All my current year’s stuff shows up, as well as last year’s expired items. Haven’t had any issues reported by others with login or missing information. Pretty cool not having to carry paper around anymore, and that we can record dipnet harvest info right in the app. Looking forward to future updates!

Buggy
The app is buggy. I logged in and it asks if you want to use myalaska or make an account with fish and game. I chose use my alaska (big mistake). Then it still wants you to make an account…so I should have just bypassed the myalaska and made a fish and game account. After going through the steps it sends me a verification email and then when I launch that to go to log in it doesn’t recognize me. Then the login in the app just spins and spins and I have to force close. I can’t get it to move forward. I gave it a shot— I think the myalaska linkage is causing a bug so don’t do that. I am going to use the old fashioned paper license. Better luck next year fish and game!
nicknametaken123abcBBQ,
Just downloaded, not tested fully
Initial impression is really good.
My info, licenses, location all populated easily using my existing MyAlaska ID (same as PFD).
The layout of the app makes sense, navigation is intuitive.
Finally we have an app! I’m interested to see how this works when out of service.
DenaliPond,
Can’t login
As noted by other reviewers, you can’t login in with myAlaska if this system finds you have a myADF&G account. When one enters the info to recover the myADF&G account the app hangs at the click of the Google button. A recommendation would be to have an option to skip login so as to at least have access to the regs. Another disappointing attempt by the state to bring itself up to speed with technology.
Joel.T.G.,
Outstanding app!
Well done!

This is an easy to use and very intuitive app. I’m in my 50s and didn’t grow up with smart phones and such. This app is easy to navigate and I appreciate the content.

I’m looking forward to the mapping function in fishing.
