Go wings.,
Extremely disappointing
I get that this is the AHL and not the NHL, but this app is disappointing all the way around. I love following the Red Wings prospects, so you’d think that clicking on stats would have an option to filter by Griffins players. Nope. Stats is limited to the top 20 in the league for each category. The scores page looks like it was optimized for iOS whatever back in 2008. The alignment is off the screen and looks like a webpage from ages ago. I’ve been strongly considering getting AHL tv to watch Griffins games and am so put off by this apps quality that I don’t have any confidence in what the streaming platform would look like or if it would work. I want to follow the AHL more, but this app isn’t helping. It needs a major overhaul if not starting from scratch, and I’m not even sure if it’s supported anymore from the looks of it. You’re losing customers and look like an amateur league, not the league directly under the best in the world.
DangerPowers19,
Getting There
I have had this app on my phone since ~2014. I love being able to follow the AHL and see what our prospects are doing. However, I often avoided it due to the clunky nature of the app and simply relied on notifications and navigating screens that required too many clicks to get the information I wanted. This new UI taking over has allowed the AHL app to take multiple steps forward and should attract new users. Once a few pages like stats, rosters, etc. are updated from the old interface, this app will be well on its way. Looking forward to the future!
ian bowman fan,
Throat punching? I’m in.
I was skeptical about downloading the AHL app until this recent throat punching business between Ian Bowman and Stew Zimmel. Now I’m all in. This is the kind of feud I’ve been waiting for. I’m trying to get a front row seat to this action. I’m putting my money on Ian. Here’s why: Anybody who puts his job on the line in order to keep his throat free from punching is a clear winner in my book. Knows how to play defense and we all know defense wins championships. Not only did he provide himself a safe haven from abuse by making it public, but decided to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and get his money back. Genius. But I can’t count out stew. If this was a running tab, he fleeced Ian by making him wait until 6,000. Can’t wait to see how it all plays out
cschiffner,
The latest update is awful
The latest update is a huge step backwards in many ways.

The AHL TV video controls lack basic functionality that used to be present. There are no controls for pause, jump 15 seconds back, or jump 15 seconds forward. When you tap the timeline to re-watch a play that just happened the handle jumps back a couple of minutes rather than moving smoothly from the position the marker started at.

There is a new splash screen that requires tapping to enter and it feels like a throw back to the early days of the internet. I have used hundreds of apps and have never had to click a splash screen to enter. Why force this?

Navigation also feels dated. Data has always loaded in a browser instance but now it’s not even concealed. Furthermore you have to close the various tabs via a text button on the bottom bar. Why not just have the tab bar visible at all times like most apps do? The new close bar takes up nearly as much room.

The only positive to this update is that AHL TV finally stays logged in AND you can actually navigate away from it without force quitting the app.

I really hope The AHL fixes the video controls for AHL TV. It’s totally ruined the viewing experience for me.
PBruins8703,
Good app but still needs improvement
I’m an avid Providence Bruins fan, I can’t attend every game so watching AHLTV is awesome, it’s finally fairly priced now. I love watching the games live and even more on demand so I can skip through intermission. My only complaints and I’m not sure if it’s app related is the camera angles. For example, the Springfield Thunderbirds have great camera work, fantastic angles. The Providence Bruins camera shots I feel is to far away and they don’t have enough close up shots. The audio I realize is a radio feed for the majority of the games, but sometimes the audio to distorted or to loud. Other than that, it’s a good app, great way to watch the AHL and keeping up with your favorite team.
Gec1025,
The AHL app
I just updated to the latest version of the AHL app on February 22, 2019. I was very disappointed. My iPad kicked me out anytime I would hit a different tab other than news. The scores should be first! It is an older iPad running IOS 9.3.5 and cannot be updated any further. Up until this last update, it was running fine. I have the pass to watch live games and that had (note key word HAD) worked until I did this past update. I have since deleted the app. I have tried to reboot, restart, delete and redownload and the same thing keeps happening. I would hit a tab other than the news and the app would kick me out to the home screen. Not a good move! Find a way to back out this latest update to get the program to run the way it is supposed to.
kitkat5469,
a few glaring issues
So, the app is a functional front end to the AHLTV service. It has some pretty rough edges tho:

1) it does not do landscape except for when streaming. This is pretty egregious for iPad on magic keyboard stand users.
2) there is no setting/way to hide the results of past games in the AHLTV streaming selection screen. This is a miss given that AHL scores aren’t splattered over the news. It’d be nice to be able to watch yesterday’s games without spoilers.
Alamolawb,
UI isn’t great
I’ll preface this review by saying that I’ve had the NHL app for years, and I’ve always liked its user interface. The problem with the AHL app is that it’s user interface just isn’t that great. There’s a lot of pop-up windows and it’s hard to navigate. There’s a whole lot of room for improvement there, but if you’re looking to follow the AHL, it’s a good, but not great, app.
Ken_Barr,
It’s Great but Some issues.
I love the PC and Firestick versions of the app/site.
The iphone/ipad app is good. The only thing that really bothers me about the apple apps is the scores can’t be hidden to avoid spoilers. I tend to avoid the apps if possible if I’m trying to avoid spoilers. The scores can be hidden on the other platforms. I’ve contacted the developer. I got a courtesy message thanking me and they did acknowledge this issue.
Maximum 673,
Amazing!
The app was great but the prices in the AHL store were ridiculous. Overall it was great but really $195 for a custom jersey? And it should have individual team players stats like for the Sound tigers it should have each players stats there not in a scoreboard. Overall five stars!!!!
