This product was promoted as “professional” and while it did not claim to rate with the higher end metal detectors, it did claim to be comparable or better than some mid-range professional products, able to detect coins out to 12” (US Quarter). The reality is it rates with the low end of the low end. Really only useful for fresh drops and surface finds. The separation in this iteration is similarly disappointing with tones bleeding together. This setup is highly susceptible to electromagnetic interference so there’s no hope of ramping up performance without even more instability than this unit already displays. Ground balance doesn’t seem to be functional at all. The phone holder drops every phone tried. The shaft is creaky and poorly constructed. The app serves no particularly special function than you find on any other run of the mill metal detector, and so there’s little point in this setup as currently constructed. The app is free (for now, as they plan to charge in the future), but the coil and shaft necessary to use it will retail for $399 US. Competing products that don’t require your phone and cost significantly less, offer so much more that I could never with any conscience recommend this product as it is, particularly since they don’t seem receptive to feedback suggesting the performance is severely deficient. There doesn’t seem much they could do in any case since the app is merely an interface for hardware in the coil, which is where the deficiencies lay. The same hubris has them claiming their next product will compete at the highest levels. I don’t say any of this lightly. I had high hopes for this product and would love to say nice things about it.
