Alternate Reality: The Dungeon (a game for 8-bit personal / home computers released in the US in 1987) is one of THE defining games of the 1980s.

The Alternate Reality: The Dungeon app will be offered as an in-app purchase from within the Elite Collection app. (The in-app will be priced at £0.69/€0.79/US$0.99 and it may include one or more other 8-bit games).

The Alternate Reality: The Dungeon app is also available in this stand-alone form. It does not include any other 8-bit games but it does include an infinite lives version.

The Alternate Reality: The Dungeon app is the near-100% original 8-bit game, as initiated by Philip Price / Paradise Programming and published by Datasoft in 1987 and is brought to you - as an officially licenced product - utilizing our Elite Collection technology.

Alternate Reality (AR) is an unfinished computer role-playing game (RPG) series that has achieved cult status among many fans of RPGs. Price was unable to complete the second game in the series, so Alternate Reality: The Dungeon was actually finished by Ken Jordan and Dan Pinal. Gary Gilbertson created the music for both games.

Featuring:
- portrait and landscape play / display modes
- iDaptive (user-definable, game-specific joystick, keypad & canvass) Controls
- (Google: "Tiny URL 22qh8hl") for more info
- ‘auto save’, on exiting the game
- authentic 'Spectrum' sound

About Elite®: Elite Systems Ltd was incorporated in England in 1984.

D34dbear,
Fun game but a little frustrating
I got both of the city and the dungeon the graphics look classic and the enimies look cool but the mazes look a little problem it's a mess of doors and walls you are not sure of where are you because theres no map screen only a compass. So it's hard to concentrate of where you left off i wish they should put some decorations so that you know where to go for example: there is a door on the right when u begin your journey you think it's just a room but it was a store how do they know thats a store so you might as well draw a map. The battles are timing u have to hurry it up though u cant be so lazy and such. The controls are little confusing but you will get the hang of it. Overall it's a good game but a little frustrating
MaxRPGer,
Brings back memory but need to iron things out a bit
This game first released in '87. It is exactly how I remembered with all the cheats and bugs still in it! But I am unable to edit the keyboard as iDaptive mentioned.

People who had never experienced AR games needs to Google it to find user manual. There are many things that even the user manual does really explain either so you need to search for AR dungeon survival handbook as well. What's most attracting feature of this game is that it has many secrets for players to discover. For example - I killed so many whites knights that even they starting to yield to me instead asking me to yield. My friend who played longer than me never experience this from a white knight.

Update: I ran into some bugs. When I joined the Guilde of Order, the guild ring name was non-recognizable symbols. When I picked up the Amethyst Rod, the whole went crazy. Anything I pick up, it screams at me that it is meant for someone better and it damages me when I use it. Even evil weapons scream at my that I am too evil!
Timmyc77,
Yes!!!!
I can't tell you how many hours I put into this game growing up! This is a true classic. It stands the test of time and I can't quit playing it. Thanks for putting out this game on iOS!!!
Greenlantern69,
Good game
This game is just like playing on the c64. It is kinda buggy, but so was the original. First bug, when you save the game, the sound turns off. Restarting the game fixes it. Another bug deals with the helm of light. It stops working and you are back to casting light or using torches. Last bug, I've run into part of the dungeon that are just completely blacked out regardless of light source. The screen is kinda small but this would be the best thing to improve on the game. It would be great if there was a "full keyboard" button that could be toggled and when it was off, the screen was bigger with key combat buttons and the joystick. Improvements and bugs aside, I love this game and I'm glad this app was created. Well worth the money.
Cadleo,
Controls need work
The game is a successful port with only some minor sound glitches, but the controls are terrible. In regular mode the keyboard takes up half your screen and you only need about 5 keys. The rest just take up space and leave less space for the tiny game screen. In landscape mode the game screen is half covered by the keyboard. Fix the interface please!
Jokeonewe,
Wow the memories!!
This title got a lot of playtime from me when I was in high school. Now it's getting more of my time. Great translation from c64 to the iPhone.
Well-lighted area,
Old times
Reliving part of my childhood. One of my favorite games of all time.
EffJoePa,
