A step forward but still disappointing
It does you no good if you are a subscriber. Nice features but ...
I need an app that let's me get my subscription. I have been a digital subscriber for a long time and never have I received my issues without multiple contacts with Customer Support.
I subscribe to multiple magazines digitally including FlyTyer and American Angler. The FlyTyer app has been excellent since the beginning but for some reason American Angler can't seem to get it going.

American Angler Magazine
I have purchased 26 issues of digital editions of American Angler Magazine. All but one at a price of $3.99 per copy, one at $1.99 per copy. These purchases were made from 2015 through 2018; the editions I purchased were dated from 2013 through 2018. I cannot access any of the digital editions I purchased and own since American Angler updated their app. I have repeatedly emailed the American Angler customer service department about my problem. Guess what, no help, no response! After several months the publisher of American Angler called me from a meeting he was attending in Alaska and told me the issues they were having with their new app. He asked me to be patient and promised me they would find a solution. A few days ago I received an email from American Angler’s customer service department explaining to me how I can now access my content. It worked! I love the new app. It took a little time but American Angler stood behind their product. I could not be happier.

WHERE’S MY CONTENT??!!
I had three year’s worth of subscriptions here, and now I can’t access them. They aren’t even visible in the new app! I can’t see anything from 2014 to 2019, and when I try to restore purchases, it spins for a minute and eventually times out. I want what I paid for! WHY UPDATE THE APP? IT STILL DOESN’T WORK!

I have been reading this magazine for years. When I purchased an iPad Air II, I thought I would subscribe to the iPad edition. iTunes allowed me to purchase a 1 year subscription and get the first issue. I believe this a Newsstand issue and not any problem with American Angler. I have subscribed to Cooking Light Magazine on my first generation iPad for several years. Since I got upgraded to Newsstand I haven’t been able to get my magazine on my iPad Air II. I know my subscription is still good because the print edition came in the mail yesterday. Maybe Newsstand should take some lessons from Zinio and make their app work as seamlessly as Zinio does.

Problems but good content
I am not going to go into the problems I had with the app because I never had any until iOS 8. Then I had problems with just about all newsstand apps. This app is serviceable and working. The content is good on the subject of fly fishing. Decent application of the magazine but could use a portrait mode and some new iPad features like videos and special features that take advantage of the iPad.

Buggy
Massive pain in the backside to get this thing to work. Content is not the issue. Had to uninstall and reinstall multiple times in order to get the functionality required to download an issue. Also really do not like the fact that it can only be used in the landscape mode and not the portrait mode. Always wondering what will it will take to to get the next issue to download.

Great publication and super quality but the app does you no good if you already have a subscription - unless you have extra cash to pay for each issue a second time just to read on your iPad. I'm used to having my other magazine subscriptions (like Time) accessible in digital format as an added benefit/feature.

I like the technique details. Showing how the flies move when you twitch or strip a particular fly is really helpful. The pictures and pop-up descriptions are excellent.
