Description

◆◆◆Developer Notes
Animus pays homage to punishing, albeit rewarding action games of a similar nature or genre. In this sense, it may be one of the rare and interesting additions to the App Store.

If you enjoy subtle, intense boss fights, this is for you. We don’t smother the screen with numbers or excessive effects — engaging combat is the focus.

Now, let us seek out our monsters, and meet them face to face.

Animus - Stand Alone (Ire SA Edition) is the companion game supplementing continued work on Ire - Blood Memory.

◆◆◆Background
"Countless possibilities had been while hope rose and fell, but all were beaten into the dust, bringing an end to the age of champions. The lands now lay desolate and empty but for the acrimonious shadows, enslaved in the falsehood of their own creation. Yet... there is one left wandering the lands in torturous pilgrimage, to escape this prison... or end it."

Sunndoom1,
Brutal but rewarding.
Why is this game so slept on? It needs a bigger community! I was never really a dark souls fan but I've always loved the genre, monster hunter is my favorite franchise of all time so I still see the appeal of this game. I have around 10 hours or so into this already, the grind is relentless but rewarding once you finally get that rare drop you've been aiming for. I'm just now getting to the point where I can get rarity B items so id imagine there's still quite a lot of content left. I usually mained longsword in monster hunter so the latest update is amazing with the addition of the new weapon type. I go back and forth between the longsword and Lance. The touch controls work just fine, I've had no input issue.

However, since the latest update I am having a lot more crashing. Playing on iPhone 6s with lowest graphic settings. Most crashing will happen when there is a cinematic before a boss fight. Aside from that, and a few complaints about the camera system, I love this game and recommend it to any die hard fans of the genre. Aside from MHFU, this is as close as we're going to get to a QUALITY hunting action game on ios. At least in the United States. I hope to see new weapon types in future updates! A REAL ranged weapon similar to the bow in monster hunter or toukiden would be fantastic.
TrentVano,
Not too bad
The good: Pretty graphics. Many of the bosses do feel rewarding after finally winning after the 100th try. Nice music. Nice variety of enemies and weapons. Nice upgrade system, simple and well implemented.

The bad: I have the newest iPhone and experience slowdown if there are too many enemies onscreen. This becomes frustrating when many of your button presses aren’t registered. The difficulty on some bosses feels like it’s hard because the game is unfair, rather than hard because the player isn’t skilled enough. The player’s button presses feel delayed, it doesn’t feel like the player has the mobility needed to really feel in control. The game also feels like it’s difficulty isn’t really linear. You’ll have a boss that’s nearly impossible because they unavoidably jump on top of you or run at you while two fast minions carve you up. Then the next level will be a piece of cake.

Overall, I would have liked a game with no slowdown (of course it doesn’t slow down with minimal graphic settings), a game where I feel that my losses are my fault rather than enemies using cheap attacks and maybe a better progression of boss difficulty. For example, why the heck are you putting that sword knight at the very beginning of the game? Also, multiple enemies should be able to hit each other , allowing the player to strategically place them to only battle one at a time. Anyway, these flaws make what could be an amazing game , an average game.

Not bad
The game is pretty good. I like the souls like genre so when this game showed up I was just pretty excited to play it. The gameplay is good, some mechanics are almost useless such as dodging and blocking g, at least compared to console games and the Soulsborne series. You get use to them though. But the bosses are pretty good, and fun to fight, though everything leading up to the boss is simply a chore.
My problems with the game are that levels are copy and pasted quite a bit, and even some of the bosses are reused several times. And the grinding is ridiculous sometimes. A lot of the time you have to fight one boss farming for equipment again and again until you are completely bored of the game to the point where you either don’t play again for days or you delete it for several months at a time. And I know the devs want it to be a grindy game, but there is far too much grinding to the point where players get bored.
But honestly it’s a great GREAT game and you should buy it. It’s one of the best games on the App Store and it’s an awesome mobile souls like game. If you like the souls games and wanna play something like them on the go, then this game is perfect.

Thanks to the devs for this awesome game. I really hope to see another game like this come out sometime. I’ll buy it if you make it!

Pretty Darn Good
Bought the Animus series pack and figured I’d start with the first one, then Harbinger, then the newest. Haven’t played any of the latest ones yet but I’m really enjoying this one so far. Boss fights are cool, armor and weapons look pretty good with a great amount of variety, and you can summon and fight phantoms. My only complaint is the frequency you get memory shards and how much it is to concentrate relative to the drop rate. I know this game draws inspiration from Souls, but most importantly it draws from Monster Hunter. Which means farming. I don’t mind farming but it’s a tad too much for a mobile game. For example you can kill the Advocate 10 times in a row while consecrating every time and not get that drop that you want (love that boss fight btw, well done!). Overall I’d give this game a 4.5/5. I was pleasantly surprised with this game. I’ll be reviewing again once I complete it and will review the other Animus games as well. Would recommend! Edit: the fight with the chaplains is a little ridiculous. They have too high of an attack frequency together. Other than that it’s been ok.
Graevon,
Changed review
Well after getting the ignorant response after my first review of calling the game clunky and unresponsive the rude gms think I’m stuck at a boss I flawlessed first time this game has no skill many bosses are more luck the. Skill avoidance or simply just out gear it. Also for a paid game you have to spend money to reset skills that have no explanation and to level or grind the same mission literally thousands of times Hoping for a lucky drop you even have to PAY to run certain missions ones of course required to advance and FYI if for any reason you need to exit the game during said mission bye bye purchase you just wasted that money. Game is a joke a complete rip off, the gms barely speak English and try to insult you, the game is not only a buy and p2w but they actually expect us to buy features that should be included in a game that had to be bought. This is a total rip off and a money scam hope to see this company and title gone from the App Store and personally I’ll be reporting your scams to Apple for a full product refund this is not something that should be paid and then have to continue paying maybe put that on your info page purchase and in game purchases required to play a very short game with tiny maps only extended by the need to rerun missions a thousand times
Zirodragus48,
Thanks for being real
I bought this game after reading all the reviews some say clunky controls some say overly difficult fights ranging from insta gibbing, down to being swamped in numbers... and perhaps the only reason im not giving it a full 5 stars. I see allot of Souls/Borne (RIP scrubs lol) style, and a “crafting” system to add, looks allot like Ire which is fine with me as i enjoyed that game as well. The main thing that made me want to get this game was the fact that you all, speaking to the developers, are active in responding to the community and working with us, which me personally, speaks volumes. Im just now downloading it so im excited to give this game a whirl, my only true hope is that this doesnt become a money game, where you eventually have to start tossing absurd amounts of money just to progress... But all in all, thank you for bringing another beautifully designed game to the table. Good day (:
Kidrippley,
A bit harsh on my last comment
This is an all out good game. I highly recommend it if your looking for a mobile game to take your mind off things or something new in the genre. For anyone who’s looking!

Now to the developers:
Eveything about the game is great…. Besides the farming aspect. I’ve at least fought the samurai guy at least 40-50 times and only got 2 pieces of his armor and 1 tachi from him. I’ve used up all my points to gain more rewards after match and still get nothing. I’ve always fought in the golden area to try and get better equipment with no luck. All I get are D rank items and it’s quite frustrating. Farming for 2 hours to get something I can do that but to farm all day to only get 2 items is crazy. Monster hunter farming didn’t take that long. Is there a way to get high rewards that I’m just not utilizing or is this the way the game is intended? I just would like to gain more armor and equipment so I can go head on with the story. I bought the 3 in 1 package. I’m thinking just skipping this 1 and moving on to the next. Just because of the farming aspect.
Jacky Gat,
THE GAME IS HARD!
If you were a dark souls fan who loved life or death being decided by a mere half second decision to either dodge or block. If you enjoyed having to fight the same boss over and over again to learn his attack and the best way to react and find his opening this game is for you. The first boss alone I needed few DOZEN tries to beat (partly because I have a broken screen that wasn’t properly registering my button presses) because the game is extremely difficult I’m not talking Dark souls 3 difficult I’m talking like the first dark souls with the pure merciless pain to go with it. I love it but apparently I’m a glutton for punishment. Please don’t buy the game if you’re gonna rage quit the first boss who is really easy if you use the revives.... the negative review isn’t fair to the developers who did a great job creating a game that doesn’t hold your hand because they wanted to appeal to people that enjoy a challenge.
anothergarbageapp,
This is gold
Ok so let’s start with the fact that this is first time I write a review for a game not out of spite 😄. I’ll get straight to the point. This game is a masterpiece. Every part of it. The environment theme, the music, combat with beautiful ( and what’s more important ) real moves like combos, the challenge of it, absolutely great dodge mechanics, the tactical aspect. All these are 10 out of 10. These guys cranking out masterpieces and Ire: blood memory also one of them. Somebody wrote that it’s a button smasher and gave this game one ⭐️. Let me assure you that if you mindlessly smash buttons you probably will not beat stage 3 😁. Check the trailer and if it looks like something you enjoy, you will be blown away. Just don’t give up easily because you will die. A lot. But don’t give up and you’ll be blown away. Great job 10Birds 🤙
jesusyourmom,
Controls unresponsive
The game is hard as everyone has stated. The challenge presented in the game would not be such a deal breaker if the controls were more responsive. The developer has stated in several replies that controls are unresponsive due to lag from device capabilities and offered a fix by lowering the graphics quality. However, upon trying this, I have come to realize it’s not a problem with device capabilities. It is an unresponsive control issue and, more specifically, an issue blocking with the shield.

First off, the game ran very smoothly on any graphics setting. Secondly, it takes about an extra second for the shield block to respond. Most of the time, I’m blocking before the boss even swings its weapon. It’s still too late and I’m taking damage cause it just simply responds too late. Please fix for 5 stars
