An innovative composition tool that lets the user see and manipulate musical forms, exploring the relation between geometry and music.
APHELIAN features a new kind of sequencer, based on a geometrical metaphor. The interface of the Standalone App is composed of 4 independent instruments. In the AUv3 extension, Aphelian behaves as a single MIDI PROCESSOR that could be used multiple times within the AU HOST to feed different audio generators.
Each geometrical unit has a SHAPE that function as a TIMELINE. The user can DRAW EVENTS in the TIMELINE to create melodies. The SHAPES are located over a NOTE MAP that defines the NOTE of each EVENT. The SHAPES can be easily transformed using gestures that take full advantage of the touch screen.
Any transformation in the SHAPE results in a predictable modification in the musical composition. APHELIAN offers an amazing balance between joyful exploration and accurate detail control, proposing an organic way to compose music.
Inspired by Johannes Kepler’s geometrical model of the solar system, where the planets play melodies as they orbit the sun assembling a cosmic symphony.

New AUv3 support!
In this release we introduced the ARPEGGIATOR MODE. You can use the geometric sequencer to control arpeggios in real time using a midi keyboard in any AUv3 capable host (Audiobus, Aum, Beatmaker, Cubasis, etc). The AUv3 SEQUENCER MODE will be available soon.
ATTENTION PREVIOUS USERS: We changed the PROJECT SAVE workflow, making it more intuitive and similar to the classic DAW save/open pattern. The AUTOSAVE functionality is still working, but now it writes directly to generic unsaved buffer.
We also changed the app logo!

New arp mode AUDIO UNIT so much fun can‘t wait for sequencer update
Was looking for this on a sale to try it out and it came at the right time now that the 1st part of the auv3 -arp is here- I can only imagine the fun and results to be had when the auv3 sequence mode is available. I had a blast with this throughout the weekend and the non auv3- stand-alone mode is fantastic from a musician standpoint and very aesthetically pleasing. Glad you can customize the color scheme to your liking. Looking forward to Aphelian Labs future updates and releases. Thanks for this dev/s! This definitely will be getting a lot of use from me!

Great composition tool
You can get something up and running in this app in a few minutes, and overall it’s a very intuitive process to create a great sounding piece of music.
I’m sure this will appeal to people with little musical knowledge as much as it will appeal to anyone with a good grasp of music theory. I’m loving both the ease of composition as much as I am looking forward to making more complex music.
Well done guys - original approaches to making music on mobile devices are becoming more rare, but this app combines flexibility, depth and inspiration in equal amounts.

This app is so amazing! And the great commitment from the development team is an example to follow for other developers. Always improving and updating. I wish there were more tutorials, but just by simply playing and experimenting with the vast possibilities can be greatly surprising and fun! Outstanding app!

Solid Reboot
The first update to the app has fixed many of the bugs, crashes, and freezes. The developer continues to work on the remaining issues.
The app is now very functional and the MIDI out and built-in synths are great to use especially combined with the scene and song modes.
Looking forward to a manual so I can better understand and use the app’s deep feature set in my compositions.

Super fun to just create arpeggios and variations, flexible synth tones, spacey effects, drum machine companion, what’s not to like? Could see pairing this with Patterning 2 and a sampler for endless fun.

AUV3 is currently broken
The app hasn’t been updated in a long while. It’s last release left an unsolved problem with AUV3. If you add a second Aphelian MIDI instance in AUM, the second one will not start, with or without a synth connected, and regardless of the MIDI channel settings. I’ll change my rating and review to 4-5 stars if this is ever corrected.

Zero stars - not AUv3
I was so looking forward to using this app. Unfortunately, it failed to be recognized as an audio unit inside Cubasis3 or AUM. A total waste of time, I’m sorry to say. If this is fixed, I’ll reconsider adding it to my iOS musicsphere and updating my review. Already deleted.

Great beginning for a very promising app
Tons of fun with a big upside potential for iOS music production if the dev will stick with this one iron out a few bugs it did crash a couple times while using on my 2017 12.9 iPad Pro. Needs to integrate with NANOSTUDIO 2 AND Cubasis 2 for the win! Keep up the good work and I will happily rank this one an extra star to make it a 5 🌟 app!
