APR Mobile is a simple yet powerful tool designed to enhance the APR tuning experience.
APR Mobile installs on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod and provides a wireless connection to the vehicle’s engine control unit or ECU. Crashes and disconnects
I can’t seem to keep the dongle connected. If an app switches to foreground and I flip back to the APR app I can’t get it to reconnect to the car unless I turn off the car and unplug the dongle etc.. lots of trouble on the latest update with that.
Also viewing logs causes lots of crashes and I can’t seem to load some historical logs in demo mode without crashing constantly.

Very useful but there are some limitations
I’ve had my APR Mobile since the week it came out. I’d say my favorite part about it is the diagnostics. I had an ignition coil fail randomly and I could easily determine which cylinder it was. Great for when you don’t have a laptop with you for VCDS or other diagnostic devices.
I also like the data logging part but only to some extent. I have VCDS which can also data log but do many parameters at once. I also have Polar FIS which shows me all the important parameters at once on my MFD screen.
Things I’m not a fan of:
- Lack of user adjustability beyond program switching and EMCS features.
Things I wish could be done but probably can’t happen for liability (understandable):
- Enable/Disable features with TCU upgrade
- Adjust launch control limit if you have TCU upgrade. Would come in handy for 3 setting LC
- If exhaust burble came with future tune updates like the RS models or facelift MK7.5 Golf R/ 8V S3 get from factory, be able to enable or disable features like that.
Verdict:
Despite the small limitations of this program, I still would highly recommend this to anyone who doesn’t have OBD II readers or VCDS for diagnostics. It is a very useful tool for quick diagnostics and makes the EMCS features (if equipped in your tune) much easier to use over the cruise control buttons.

Great add on
I have had mobile for 2/3 years. Its awesome for clearing fault codes and for diagnostics. I’m able to run the car, data log and send outputs to my shop from anywhere.
Only issues I’ve had are related to have a few app updates that have impacted functionality. That said, the APR team has been super responsive and they have done a killer job with bug fixes and support.

It has potential
Just bought the dongle for my APR tuned VW Golf R. Everything seems to work fine, except for reading fault codes... upon plugging in the dongle, I was alerted of “1 fault found”, but when I try to read the error, the app crashes. Any timeline on when this will be fixed?

Warning, the apr dongle will not work if you bought it second hand.
Just to let anyone know who’s looking to buy an APR dongle be sure to get it brand new! A second hand one will not work for your car if it’s already been registered to another vehicle. Lesson learned for a newbie 😢. Hey APR maybe you should charge a small fee to unlock these for people that have been duped 🤣

Mine doesn’t work
I have it on my new RS7 and for some reason can’t get it to sink with my phone. Heard something about the app needs updating but who knows ...

App doesn't work properly, crashes when reading the logs. Also, The interface could have been simplified in every aspect. Wouldn't recommend apr mobile instead of VCDS.
Therefore, it raises the big question whether the ECU software is coded in the same careless way as this poor app, and should I expect engine failure soon ?

Awesome App
The best app to compliment Your APR Software. You must also have the APR Mobile dongle but it’s relatively cheap for the additional features in my opinion. Keep up the good work APR.

EMCS is working
EMCS ERROR is fixed. I had to uninstall app and unpair dongle then reinstall everything. Version 18 does work now.

Crashing
App crashes upon going to the logging menu. 2012 VW Beetle, APR stage 1, worked fine until I tried to refresh the parameters. I have written several emails to APR and have gotten no resolution. Will be going with another app and dongle for logging and will sell the APR mobile.
