Description

Completely free. No ads. No in-app purchases.

Arctopia is a classic turn-based puzzle game.

Solve 147 levels across 14 chapters of varying difficulty.

In each level of Arctopia, your goal is to strategically use blocks of ice to extinguish all of the sinister eyebrowed flames that menace the level. Unfortunately, this is rarely straightforward, as fires may be inconveniently placed, blocked by burning oil barrels, or defended by blockades of ice.

You can create and destroy ice, but only below your current position, so thinking ahead is mandatory. . . and there are many traps for the unwary!

(Note that if you find early levels too easy (or you find a particular level too frustrating!), you can always skip to a different level and come back later.)

The number of moves taken for your best solution is saved for each level, so you can strive for maximum efficiency if you so desire.

The intro levels are (skippable) tutorial stages, so don't worry about learning the basics of the game.

Good luck!

This is a unique puzzle app for free with no ads. A great compliment to an evening podcast. I finished every level after a few weeks.
Vinny Bobo,
Great for all ages!
I’ve finished all 137 puzzles. One of the last I did in 10 moves. A world record. It took about 3 months at a few hours daily. I have the time, I’m old. Got the wife and grandchildren hooked. The moves seemed as intricate as chess; both rewarding and frustrating at the same time. We LOVE it! It also has a psychological effect of learning about oneself in the areas of logic, problem solving and emotions. What I would like to see added is a way to number each try and how many moves each try took so I can compete against myself. I’ve gone back to difficult levels that I can’t remember how I solved. A benefit of being old. I’d more than gladly pay for a pack of different puzzles. I’m not sure if you folks know what you have here. Besides hours of fun, you have an intricate, psychological game that helps one’s mind ponder logic while being able to observe one’s emotions and thinking processes. This game also has a creative aspect. Well, at least to hear my wife’s creative cussing. It’s like music. To anyone who hasn’t downloaded Arctopia. Do it now. It’s worth good money and they’re giving it away free. To the creators of this app. Great job! Please consider thee above add-on and get started on another puzzle pack. I will gladly and enthusiastically pay 10 bucks for a new puzzle pack; even tho I’m still enjoying going back to the puzzles that took 300 or more moves ( I think 328 is the highest ) and see if I beat my old score. ( Hint: the add-on ) Great work! My wife thanks you, my grandchildren thank you, and I thank you. IMO of James Cagney.
shipspy,
Fun!

VPNavyFS,
Challenging and fun puzzler
This is a really well done puzzle game, complete with a cute penguin as your avatar in the icy world of Arctopia. 130 puzzles are included, ensuring hours of enjoyment. Difficulty ranges from obvious to real head scratchers, and there is often more than one way to solve a level. The lack of an "Undo" can be frustrating, but it's actually a plus not a negative, as it forces you to think about the consequences of a move very carefully. FWIW, I've never had the game crash on me, and I'm running it on an original iPhone (non 3G). Highly recommended for nearly any age -- my own 4 year old enjoys it almost as much as I do.
00egw,
Fun & Challenging
This is a great puzzle game for people who spend time sitting on a bus, waiting for a plane to take off, or for whatever other idle time you have. It's easy to pick up and play for a few minutes, or to let yourself get sucked in and spend two hours on it.

I just finished the game, and it took 15 hours all together—but your mileage may vary. Kids like the game too and it's a great game for young children (6+) too—though admittedly it gets a little challenging for them and they need my help a lot after the first levels are completed! Now I'm waiting on an extra puzzle pack...
cmsy27,
Great puzzle game!
Arctopia combines a creative concept and cute graphics to make an extremely engaging and challenging game. It's simple enough to learn - you play the penguin and your goal is to push ice cubes to put out the fires scattered throughout each level. You are able to both create and melt ice, push single cubes of ice, and hop onto platforms one tile higher. Given these provisions, try solving all 120 levels in as few moves as possible! This game will keep you thinking and having fun at the same time. If you're a fan of puzzle games, you should definitely give this a try!
MathPoly,
very good progression of levels
Tutorial introduction is good, as are subsequent tutorials when a new feature is introduced. Some puzzles have a moderately direct solution while others require a more subtle approach, perhaps 10 steps forward and then 30 to back up and approach from the opposite direction.

Arctopia is on my short list of puzzles (along with Subway Shuffle and Theseus) which I will return to again and again.

I would welcome an Undo or ability to set a BreakPoint for resumption after a failure.
HaleyAnnS,
Amazing
Great game, simply amazing. My only complaint is that the world records are not always accurate. I have found solutions in fewer moves than the supposed 'world records' on multiple stages, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. An undo button with a limeted number of undos, say two moves back, would be nice as well. Overall though, couldn't be more pleased with this game. I'm looking forward to future updates and additional stages.
Flute Pixzy,
Leader Board Please
Great brain exerciser. By far my favorite game. Like others here, I've played each level more than once, primarily to best my own score but also to beat the "world record" scores if I didn't the first time around.

Unfortunately, the world score never updates. Unless a leader board is added the world score is ridiculous and, to this point, I'd like to know in whose world these records have been set since they are sometimes way higher than my best (lower is better if you haven't played the game yet). One level, 13-6 Tuppence, my score is 92, the world leader score is 152!!!

Knowing if anyone has done better challenges me to go back and play the game again. Otherwise, it's a dead app once I feel I've gotten the best score.

Gave it four stars for leaving out leader boards yet putting in "world" records. More levels please.
