Description

Argentum Camera is a Red Dot Award winning black & white camera app developed with street photographers in mind. It allows you to shoot high-quality black & white images without complicated adjustments or the need for post-processing.

Argentum Camera offers six filters, each aesthetically inspired by the classics of black & white photography, such as Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Irving Penn, Garry Winogrand, Yousuf Karsh and Dorothea Lange.

Want to bring your black & white photos to life? Try shooting Live Photos with Argentum (feature only available to those with iPhones 6S or higher).

All images (Live Photos and stills) are processed in real-time, so you can see an Ansel Adams inspired landscape treatment or Irving Penn inspired portrait tones right on your screen while you're still composing your shot.

Argentum Camera's interface is simple, but functional, a balance between the modern sleekness and the classical forms. It is hardly noticeable and allows you to focus fully on composing the shot.

It is also the first camera interface that adapts to the shift in handling. In the landscape mode the shutter button slides to the end of the panel placing it right under your thumb.

FEATURE HIGHLIGHT

Real-time Processing
Argentum Camera processes images in real-time. The image you see while composing your shot is exactly the result you’re going to get when you press the shutter button.

Two Additional Shooting Modes
Street shooting mode turns your whole screen into one large button. Tap it anywhere to take a shot. Double exposure mode lets you superimpose two different images in a single photo with real-time preview. Pro-tip: go for underexposure on both shots to compensate for exposing the sensor to light twice.

Live Photos
Bring your black & white images to life by turning the Live Photo mode on (available on iPhones 6S or higher).

Instant Preview
This option lets you have a quick look at the photo you just took right after pressing the shutter button. No need to go all the way to the Gallery to check if you got the light or focus right.

Keep Original Photos
When this option is switched on original unprocessed photos will be stored in your Camera Roll.

JPEG, HEIC, TIFF and RAW
Save original and processed photos in JPEG, HEIC or TIFF. Additionally, save the original photo in RAW.

Adaptive Interface Layout
In the landscape mode the shutter button is shifted and placed right under your thumb.

Torch & Flash
In addition to the standard flash option, there is also a torch mode that provides continuous lighting for better control.

AF/AE Lock
Tap and hold on the screen to lock focus and exposure while composing the shot.

Rich Metadata
Argentum Camera saves your location and the filter you used in the EXIF, so you can always keep track of your best photos.

You’ve asked and we’ve done it! Starting from today Argentum Camera finally has front camera support. We’re looking forward to seeing more black & white portraits in our Instagram feed!

We’ve also added face detection, so taking street portraits has become even faster. In the Speed Shooting mode Argentum will automatically focus on the closest face. Snapping that moment is now truly a matter of clicking the shutter button.

Finally, we’ve fixed some issues. We think you’d be especially happy to know that now you can wake Argentum from the sleep with the volume buttons again ;)

A fresh update for Argentum is here and we are quite proud of this one.

Argentum now has a power saving mode. So when you're hunting the streets for your perfect shot you don't need to worry about your battery draining anymore. No more switching the phone off after every shot and frantic attempts to get the camera back on when you see a great subject. Instead switch the Sleep Timer on in the Settings and Argentum will go to sleep when you're inactive for some time. The screen will dim saving the battery and block all controls so you can freely carry your phone in your hand without waking the camera back up. When you're ready for that shot press one of the volume buttons, or tap any button in the Argentum Watch app, and the camera will be up and running instantly. No more lost opportunities!

We hope you enjoy this update as much as we do. And as always we're looking forward to hearing what you think of Argentum and seeing the photos you take with it.

We’re back from the holidays with the fresh update that improves your shooting experience. You can now switch on an Instant Preview option in the Settings that lets you take a quick look at the photo you just took right after pressing the shutter button. No need to go all the way to the Gallery to check if you got the light or focus right. We hope this’ll make your life a bit easier and your shooting experience a bit more enjoyable.

This feature was requested by some of our users and we’re very grateful for all the feedback and suggestions we keep receiving. If you have an idea on how we could make Argentum better for your needs, don’t hesitate to reach out at [email protected]. We appreciate every comment we get!

Here we are with a fresh update to Argentum Camera, right on time for the holidays. And we’re bringing a gift! From the 21st till the 24th of December get the full pack of Argentum’s filters for $1.99 (or an equivalent in your local currency). Capture those holiday moments in black & white! If you decide to not grab this update before Christmas, don’t worry the special prices will be available to you too, you’ll just keep seeing old prices in the interface.

A special thank you to all of you who have reached out and expressed your positive and not so positive opinions on our previous major update! We really appreciate each and every one of these. We’ve heard your concerns about Argentum not letting to move forward without permissions to use GPS and microphone and fixed this issue in the current update. You can now deny access to everything except Camera and Photos. We’ve also eliminated a couple of minor issues.

Oh, and we’ve added haptic engine feedback to shooting via Force Touch from the Filter Selection screen for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users. Let us know if you like it!

More updates coming soon!
2.0.2

One more fix! We've just noticed a couple more issues in the latest version. They have now been fixed!

Previously on version 2.0:

— Argentum Camera has received a Red Dot Communication Design Award for its design and concept! We’re very thankful to the jury for the recognition and to all Argentum users for helping us make Argentum better with the feedback and suggestions! To celebrate the award we’ve given Argentum a facelift and a bunch of new features.

— Argentum now shoots Live Photos. Bring your black & white images to life by turning the Live Photo mode on in the Settings. Everything is processed in realtime, just like with still photos, and you can even get a square Live Photo with Argentum! The feature is only available to those with iPhones 6S or higher.

— For all those who asked for the TIFF format for the photos, it’s now here! Just opt for TIFF instead of JPG in the Camera Settings.

— Argentum now works much faster. Much much faster.

— We have rebuilt the gallery from scratch. While it looks almost the same from the outside, it’s all new and shiny under the hood. It now also supports Live Photos and displays photos stored in the iCloud correctly. And it’s become faster and smoother.

— We really took time to make sure that the shutter button is visible in every condition! It’s now larger and its brightness changes depending on how bright it is outside. So you can see the button as clearly on a shiny sunny day as it looks in the darkest starry night.

— All the filter descriptions got more photo examples to make it even easier to compare them between each other and pick the right one for your needs.

— Stabilization isn’t an option anymore. It’s just always on. Always.

— A bunch of minor tweaks and improvements that add up to a better experience with Argentum.

We really hope you keep enjoying Argentum and creating beautiful black & white images with it. We’re always looking forward to hearing the feedback!

Front Facing Cam
I really love this app. HCB is my favorite filter so far. I would love this app even more if there was a way to use to front facing camera. Unless I’m overlooking this setting. I rated it just 4-stars because I can’t use the front camera. Will change rating if I figure out how to use the front camera or if the feature is added later. But overall this has become a favorite app of mine and will recommend it to others.
Music Prof,
A B&W fave
I have a lot of camera apps, but Argentum is on my front page. It can function as a sophisticated point-and-shoot—especially so in Street Mode. But all sorts of extra control is a stroke or two away, when you want it.

This isn’t the only double exposure in town for iPhones. But, compared say with the justifiably popular Hipstamatic, Argentum gives you so much more artistic control over the two exposures.

The approximations of the look of seven master photographers are pretty good. Educational, too. They aren’t after-the-fact filters; they’re on-screen WYSIWYG as you set up the shot. But don’t stop at punching in the AA or DL button; get online and familiarize yourself with the range of these exemplary photographers’ work. With Argentum, it’s thrilling to get closer to their widely ranging aesthetics of B&W.
Travis Owen,
Easily the best B&W photo app
I’ve always said that when it comes to photography, it’s about the eye, not the camera. Well, this app takes what you shoot and elevates your photos to epic proportions. Easy to use and not complicated, with great filters and just the right amount of tweakability. There is a little lag between shooting photos, one after the other, but I don’t mind it. I’ve tried so many B&W photo apps, and this is the only one I use.
NikonShooter34240,
My favorite camera app.
In my opinion, Argentum is not just the best black and white camera app in the App Store, is the best camera app PERIOD! The app is fast and reliable, and the UI is great; simple and much less cluttered than most camera apps. Photos look great. I am a film shooter and like the output of this app. I haven’t found any B&W editing app that does better B&W conversions than the photos that come directly out of Argentum. I particularly like the “GW” filter, which looks quite like Kodak Tri-X.

Excellent app. Five stars.
littletinperson,
Update: iOS 11.1 iPhone 6 bug fixed
Liked it until I updated to iOS 11.1 on my iPhone 6. Now it crashes on launch. Restarted phone. Deleted app and re-installed. Crash. Crash. Bought all the filters when it was working. Regretting that a bit now.

Update: Developer has been very responsive. Recent update has corrected the crash on launch problem. I’m raising rating while I continue to use the camera over the next week or so. Expect rating to continue rising as I get further along.
Jarjarfett,
Just great!
This app is fantastic with processing to B&W, which I love shooting in. What’s impressive is the range of outcomes using the varying filter sets. I took a few quick snaps recently the landscape in Idaho and Wyoming and I was astonished at the level of contrast and shading between the sky, mountains and valley floor. Really nice, and easy to use.
Update: Been using this as my go to photo app nonstop. How this app only has like 50 reviews is beyond me.
PNovembre,
Easy and fun to use
I was enjoying your app until the recent update. It stopped working. I’m using your app on my iPhone 7, iOS 11.1. I’d love to adjust my rating from 1 star to 5 stars if this problem is fixed quickly.

Developer responded quickly with an updated version that corrected the problem. So, I’m updating my review as promised from 1 star to 5 stars.
MaxKalifornia,
Love it!
I mostly shoot b&w pictures to post on my ig acct (@maxkalifornia) and my go to app had been until now Hipstamatic, but Argentum is now it! I love the live double exposure feature and the fact that you can frame and adjust before you snap the second picture. The app is brilliant!
Some guy in Seattle,
My favorite camera app by far
I’m a B&W lover and I have not found any post-processor app (for color pictures) that can do what Argentum does simply by pressing the shutter.

Every picture has a ‘pop’ to it that I find exciting and delighting!
Healer/Revealer,
Like, but...
I have really enjoyed being able to take black-and-white photos but the latest update forces it into live mode and it won’t stay turned off. I want to take black and white still photographs not live little video things.

I’m finding it very frustrating to work with and that’s why it only gets three stars.
