Attendance2 is a new app from the developer of the original iOS Attendance app. It is a complete rewrite of the app with a new data format to make it more flexible and easier to use.

* Main Features *
Easy to get started with and powerful features you can learn if you need them.
Flexible importing of names from CSV file or your Contacts (videos on website show how to create an import CSV files)
Display photos next to names while taking attendance. Photos can be taken with the device, imported from Dropbox, or from your Photo library.
Statuses (i.e., Absent, Present, etc.) are customizable so you can add your own statuses.
Each day includes a status, a second status, and a generic note field.
Use the second status to track participation points or for dropoff/pickup (more information on website for how to do this).
Manually select status for each person or scan QR or barcode to record a person's attendance status (Attendance2 will create QR codes for you).
Optionally enter course meetings times (i.e., MWF 9AM) so you add your next class time with one tap or manually select meeting time if course does not meet at regular times.
Standard fields for first, middle, last, email, etc. for each person plus 5 custom fields you can optionally use.
Customize which person fields are visible while taking attendance in the Take settings.
Multiple report options (spreadsheet, summary, detailed report) that can be emailed or saved to Dropbox in CSV format.
Reports of students who have missed a specified number of classes to help identify at risk students.
Customize what fields are included in the reports in the Report Settings.
Each course is a separate data file and you can share your data file with teaching assistants or administrators by sending it to them in an email.
Easily backup your data file to Dropbox or via email.
Supports TextExpander touch snippet expansion in various note fields.

* Gestures while taking attendance *
Tap photo to view larger photo or to change the photo.
Tap name to enter the note for that day for the person.
Tap and hold name to view/edit details for a person.
Double tap a name to view summary report of attendance.
Tap and hold status to select status from a list.
Swipe right/left all the way across screen to switch to previous/next date.

* Sharing data between multiple devices or people *
Data cannot be synced between multiple users, but as long as you send the data file back and forth between multiple people and the person using it has the latest copy, mutliple people can take attendance at different times. For example, an instructor could take attendance on MWF, email the data file to his/her TA after class Wednesday and the TA could then take attendance at a recitation section on Thursday and email the updated data file back to the instructor afterwards so the instructor could use it again on Wednesday. The same instructions apply for using it on multiple devices - just share the data (via email or Dropbox) with your other device and make certain the device you're using at the momemnt has the latest copy of the data before you modify the data.

As of version 2.0 of Attendance2, it includes all the major features of the original Attendance app (version 2.0 adds importing from your Contacts). I have a list of requested features and will continue to update the app regularly as I have time to work on it. While I can't promise to add every feature request, if you have a specific request, feel free to email it to me ([email protected]).

See http://www.dave256apps.com for more information about the app. There are a few videos there showing more information about the app and how to use it.

Support for Dropbox's new authentication requirements. After Dropbox forces the change on September 30, 2021, if Dropbox support in Attendance2 does not work for you, please unlink and relink with Dropbox on the app's first screen.
Now that Dropbox has provided privacy information about their service, I have updated the app's privacy guidelines. Note that I do not collect any data so if you do not use the Dropbox functionality, no data should be collected. If you use the options to load/save data from Dropbox, they do collect some information in order to connect to their service. Here is their information:

A course remembers the columns import order for CSV files from the last time you imported a CSV file into that course.

Option to re-order buttons in Take screen scrollview. Open course, scroll to Course/Group Settings and select Take screen button order.

When importing a person from another course, it will copy the attendance record information if you took attendance on same dates in both courses. This is useful when moving a student from one section of a course to another.

Requires iOS 9 or higher. UI tweaks for iPhone X. I will not have an iPhone X so if you have one and notice any UI glitches, please let me know. Many internal code updates to continue working on new iOS versions.

Option to change enrollment status for multiple people by tapping their names. Open your course file, select "Enrollment Changes" and tap names to change them from enrolled to not enrolled (checkmark indicates they are enrolled).

Note: if you use Dropbox you must update Attendance2 before June 2017 as they changed how apps are allowed to work with their service.
5.0.1
2017-04-04
Fix for force touch to open for course names with spaces or non-ASCII characters. Remove leading/trailing spaces from course names as it prevented QR codes from being uploaded to Dropbox. Note: if you use Dropbox you must update Attendance2 before June 2017 as they changed how code is allowed to work with their service.

2017-03-28
Now requires iOS 8 or higher to support new Dropbox V2 API that Dropbox is requiring in June 2017. If you launch this new version of Attendance2 once before June 28, 2017 (and you have internet connectivity when launching it), it should migrate your existing Dropbox settings, but when I tried it, it did not always work. If you launch it for the first time after that date or Dropbox says it is not linked, choose the option to Unlink with Dropbox and then choose the option to Link with Dropbox and that will reconnect Attendance2 with Dropbox.

Please note if your are using Attendance2 on an iOS 7 device, you cannot update to this version and Dropbox will stop working with Attendance2 on June 28, 2017 for iOS 7 users of Attendance2. There is nothing I can do about this as Dropbox is turning off the old API effective June 28, 2017 and their new API requires iOS 8 or higher. You should still be able to use version 4.9 of Attendance2 on iOS 7 devices other than the Dropbox functionality. You can use the options to email backup files and import .adz and .csv data from email attachments.

Added search bar on "View/manual sort names" secreen.

Option in Take Settings to show email or phone numbers.

On iPhones with 3D Touch (aka force press), force pressing on the Attendance2 icon gives you the option to launch and open one of the first few courses.

Fixes for iOS 10.3.
4.9
2016-10-17
Minor bug fixes. Force press mention in what's new within App does not currently work in App Store. May be because I'm trying to maintain backwards compatibility with iOS 7 until I release an update for the new Dropbox SDK (which is needed because Dropbox is turning off support for the old SDK in June 2017).
4.8
2016-09-04
Option to auto-backup your modified course files (not the photos since they don't change often) when you suspend the app (press Home button or button to sleep the screen). Turn on the setting by scrolling down on the main screen and finding the option. It will only backup when you are on WiFi (and you have linked with Dropbox). It will not backup the currently open course, but you can go back to the initial screen with the list of courses before you press the Home button or sleep the screen and then that course will back up (along with any other courses modified during that session). If you use Attendance2 on multiple iOS devices, I strongly recommend you only turn on autobackup on one of the devices (i.e., the device you primarily use).
Option to export random groups as a text report. After creating the group go back to previous screen and then press the detail disclosure (i with a circle around it) rather than tapping the creation date of the group.
Import PNG or GIF files from Dropbox for photos.

Davion2424,
Where are the roster?
I truly enjoy using the app. However, I wish the app would allow you to generate a daily roster of the students attendance.

Outstanding App For Teachers
My colleagues and I have been using this app for years with great success. If you are a teacher who regularly works with large amounts of students, and are looking for a way to quickly take attendance, this is THE app! The developer is also accessible and helpful if you need to contact him. As a teacher, this is one of the few apps that I’ve not only used for years but has truly made the attendance-taking part of my job much easier. If I could give it 6 stars I would.
evalarad,
Miss the original app!
I was forced to switch to the new version when the original app stopped working after an update, and boy, do I miss the old version! It was just much more user-friendly and intuitive. If possible, please get the buttons on the bottom of the screen back! I will most likely continue to use this app as it is still the best I could find, but I miss the simplicity of the original app.
Lkg2,
Just what we need!
Quick response when I had a problem with email button not showing up. As soon as I emailed with a question I had an almost immediate response with possible solutions. I have been using this app for a year and a half to take attendance at church. It is a wonderful app. I recommend it!!
linkycat,
Choir folders
I’m one of those users who has a class of 130 people, and scanning binders is super handy! I appreciate just being able to do it

If I had a super wish list, it would be:
Live update/sync between multiple devices (I have multiple iPads in my class, so if it was simple to scan with two and speed up the process and have it sync... well that’d be the dream)!

Also, is it ios13 supported already? Thanks for your work!
Chris Derry,
Support
The developer was quick to respond back to me with quick fixes for the issues I was having. Thanks!!
TallSteve1,
Excellent
This app is great and the support is even better. It helps so much in tracking data for my classes.
Jonsan32,
Great app, decent UI
Review # 3 --- This app has definitely helped me grow my business. But with that had come another need to share the attendance among multiple coaches. I'd still recommend this app above all the rest, but it would seem fairly simple to add a one button sync to a Dropbox file that could also be shared. Right now the workaround is ridiculously inefficient. Also, for anyone who uses this data to dump to google sheets to process it all, I've found that it's simpler to save the emailed CSV directly to my online server and then link it to auto update on Sheets with the =importdata("URL") formula. Now I can do it all from my phone!

Review # 2 *after update* --- After creating a spreadsheet that filtered everything correctly, this app works perfect. The UI improvement of the header color was a great and needed touch. Once you get to know the app, it's good. Still wish I could've just customized the spreadsheet output, rather than use a series of formulas and several sheets.

Review #1 --- I wish the look and functionality were like the Red Hawk Attendance app. This one is a bit confusing and a tad tedious. Love the customization and calculations. I'd like it even more so if you could customize the exported spreadsheet a bit. My specific want would be to have just the names and the total scores showing. After months worth of classes, that's a lot of data to sort on the horizontal axis of my google doc.

Overall, great app.

Cvs import procedure
Importing cvs can be a pain. Videos are helpful, but he talks to fast and doesn’t take the time to really explain well.
Sulu S,
Attendance 2
I have been using the first version of Attendance for well over a year and have recommended it highly to colleagues. I wish I could say the same for this new version. The beauty of the original program was simplicity, a streamlined interface and easy to navigate function buttons. The new version is much too complicated and takes more time to navigate the menu. Yes, there are more functions, but I do not want to take the time to search and open up menu items to get to the attendance screen. I am a seasoned user of the original, but now straight-forward tasks like deleting students, for example, requires more trying to figure out the overly extensive menu and opening the individual student record, rather than deleting from the entire list. I am spending too much time navigating the program. The original version is a breeze. I would love to see these functions returned to the new version: buttons at the bottom of the screen with clearly labeled tasks; ability to open a class roster and delete students with a swipe.
