• 64-voice Hybrid Digital Poly Synthesis.
• Full 1+ Gigabyte of original samples recorded from analog & fm synths over 30+ years old
• Stand-alone iPad Synth, plus IAA & Audiobus
• Basic AUv3 Plugin support. Works best with AUM. We're working on upgrading Audio Unit support.
• Space-saving Compression - The whole app is under 200mb!
• Dual layers per voice. Keyboard splits. Velocity Scaling.
• Vintage-style Arp/Step Sequencer that can be routed to specific layers.
• 3 LFOs. Fun Routings. LFOs can modify other LFOs.
• Dual Independent per-Layer filters
• Plus, per-voice Harmonic key-tracked Envelope filters.

"Beautiful. Lush. Modern and Amazing… An Instant Classic."

REQUIREMENTS:
Requires newer iPads for best performance. May be slow on iPad 4.
IAA is being deprecated by Apple in iOS 13. We're moving to AUv3 as well. Please replace IAA with AUv3 in your projects.

GarageBand Audio Unit (AUv3):
You can run one instance of D1 as an AUv3 in GarageBand. With a host like AUM, you can run 3 or more instances at once.

TROUBLESHOOTING:
For iPad 4 - Open the "Settings" button (to the upper left above the keyboard). Turn the buffer to 512 or above. And turn the "CPU Efficient" toggle to on. If still having trouble, try closing other music apps and/or rebooting your iPad. Thanks!

*** All app sounds were created by pure analog and fm synthesis. We took these new sounds. Stacked them. Flipped them. And, processed the heck out of ’em. Resulting in a beautiful new sonic palette for you to enjoy.

Hello Everyone!
* This update makes the Stand-alone version more stable
* Small stability updates to AUv3 as well
* App updated for iOS 15. Note in AUv3: preset changing works fine in most hosts (AUM, Cubasis, etc). In early iOS 15 versions of GarageBand, sometimes the app needs to be loaded and restarted. Then preset changing will work. This may be fixed by the time you read this.

Hope you all stay creative and healthy.
Please take care of yourselves and your fellow musicians. :)

Thanks Everyone! You're Amazing!
NEW UPDATE!!!
• Re-engineered to be more Memory efficient with AUv3
• Reduces Crashes in AUv3
• Better iPadOS Support
• We've got more to go... We're working constantly to improve AudioKit apps for you.
Thanks for your support!

Plus, other recent updates:
• AUv3 now mixes down and freezes in Cubasis, NS2, GarageBand, and more!
• D1 has been re-engineered to allow AUv3 in iPadOS/iOS 13
• Inter-app Audio (IAA) has been improved!
• Misc bug fixes & upgrades
• AudioKit apps will keep improving. We're working hard to make them better for you!

NOTES
* D1 is rather robust. It's a beast of a synth.
* GarageBand: We recommend only running one AUv3 instance at a time in GarageBand
* We've and optimized it so you can run 3 or more instances in one AUM project! Of course, if you go above 3 instances running at once, it may become unstable.
* AUv3 also handles MIDI better. Use your favorite iOS host like AUM to route MIDI to different instances
* AUv3 mode defaults to CPU efficient mode on, which means you don't see the knob animation on LFOs. BTW, this makes it easier to set LFO targets. This can be changed in the "Settings" button to the upper left of the keyboard
* There's a new keyboard hide/show icon that appears at the top of the AUv3 mode to make it easier to show/hide bottom panels in AUv3 mode

* We can't wait to hear the music you make with D1 as an AUv3

* The app will just get better & better - stay tuned!

* If you have backups of your banks, try renaming the banks from something like
"MyName.json" to "MyName.bank.json" then D1 should be able to import it using the "Import" button.
i.e. You'll need to add a ".bank" before the ".json"
* When freezing in Cubasis, if nothing appears in the audio track, try setting Cubasis to compatibly mode
* D1 is rather robust. It's a beast of a synth.
* We've re-engineered and optimized it so you can run 2, 3 or more instances in one project!

* Quick Stability Fix: This update should make D1 more stable when playing with MIDI standalone.
If you're one of the people that D1 is crashing for after this update, please email us: [email protected]
First try restarting your iPad. Include the preset you're using, and what you press immediately before your crash. We want to get this working for everyone.
+ Please note, that if you're using IAA, we're working on the AUv3 version every day. Which is better. And, it will be a free upgrade, of course!

Thanks for patience! We are always upgrading D1:
LOADS OF MICROTONALITY FEATURES ADDED:
+ Digital D1 can now open Scala Files: On your iPad select a link to a Scala file ending in ".scl" and you will see "Copy to Digital D1" as an option.
+ You can now use AudioKit Synth One to send Scales to Digital D1!
This functionality is kind of like Ableton Link, but, for Tuning.
How does this work? Go to the "Tune" panel in Synth One. There's a new button called "TuneUp" (starting w/ version 1.0.3), click on that to open D1. You can also share master tuning setting.
+ New "Back" Button & Scale "Reset" buttons in D1 when using a scale from another app.
+ NEW Master Tuning knob on the bottom of the "FX" panel in D1 It goes from 432 to 440. If you want a wider range, you can set the tuning from Synth One

+ D1 now loads last used preset when restarted
+ Under the hood: Over 3,000+ lines of code have been re-worked as we fine-tune AUv3.
We are working every single day of the week on it. And, won't rest until we get it to you. We're in it for the marathon. We'll always be updating and adding cool stuff to Digital D1.

ONE MORE THING: If you were an early adopter of D1, we have a special gift. Your copy of Digital D1 will be upgraded to the Platinum Edition in this update. Meaning, you'll get all future sound expansions free for life. We've got a few great expansions planned this year. And, you'll get every one of them for free as a thank you for your early support and patience. If your copy of D1 qualifies, you'll see the "Platinum Edition" text on the Preset Panel after this update.

creed85641,
What a blessing
I didn’t give this app a look because I think it was the price tag. Too low. I thought a good synth app would be starting around 10 bucks. So now that I have purchased Moog, GeoShred, basically all of Korg, Pure Acid, Streetlytron ‘63, and so many others, there are only really a select few that I use.
I always passed up Digital D1 while searching for my next synth.
It wasn’t until I started reading the reviews that I finally just said, “All right, I gotta check it out. “
I don’t regret not purchasing this earlier, but I’m like, “man, people need to know about this app.” So people, take it from me, you are going to be knocked off your feet when you listen to what this beautiful instrument can do. There are so many friggin presets that I haven’t gotten through them yet. The sound is phenomenal. You’ll just be so amazed. I wanted to write a review purely based on the character of this company and team members. I think you’ll know what I mean when you get this app. They are kind, generous (free preset downloads), and make you feel important, needed. So It’s a pleasure to help out where I can and write a review. You have given me more than I could ever ask for. Thank you team. And peeps, really, you NEED this in your synth buffet. You better do it. Haha. Go on now!
Thehlkffv,
BEST VST FOR IOS PERIOD!
First off I’m a musician not a sound engineer for movies or anything for that matter. With 400+ presets, and not like some lame presets that you’ll get from other apps which all sounds very similar and the only way to get that sound you’re looking for is to spend hours tweaking it. I have to give major props to the guys at D1 for putting in the works to create such high quality and beautiful sounding presets, and only if I really have to tweak anything it will be very minimal. Of course D1 has all those fancy tweaking nobs but who has time for that when you’re in that moment where you just want to lay down a quick melody or chords. D1 layouts are truly amazing, very simple to use especially for a guy who doesn’t like nobbleing around and this doesn’t overwhelms me at all. I CAN NOT WAIT till they release the AU3 compatible version of this app. Awesome work guys! Keep music alive even though it’ll never die. BTW, I hate writing reviews as much as I hate tweaking sounds but for this app I just have to.
hyperfocusmusic,
So far works great in aum and Cubasis love the sounds too
I’d been eyeing this and seeing it high up in the top app charts so kept skipping over due to the notes about crashing and limited auv at first, til recently it’s been consistently high up in top charts with a very Hugh rating so I decided to try it at 3.99 , largely in excitement for Brice presets and more . I also read extremely positive reviews too and have learned that sometimes less apps get low rating due to user error buying it before out knowing how to use it and then expressing frustration in a review .
That said this is a great synth and I’m on a 2022 iPad Air 5th gen, no crashes .
Hey_Andre,
Really want to love it but...
I really want to love this synth but it keeps crashing almost each time i switch to another preset. I’m not even using it with any other app, just literally trying to test it out as standalone and i cant keep it open for more than a minute. I have other Audiokit synths and apps and all work fine with maybe an occasional crash here and there but this D1 is really disappointing. I havent even been able to play with oscillators, etc. just literally checking out the preset patches at this point. Very unstable.

I have a pretty capable ipad pro 2nd gen with plenty of space and latest 14.3 ios. As a matter of fact i was not on ios 14.3 when i first downloaded the D1 and figured i just needed to update ios to address the constant crashing but after updating its crashing just as bad. I tried powercycling, closing all other apps and its just not letting me play with it for more than a minute (if im lucky). Please make it more stable.
Zermosa,
Still Not Usable as AU
Update Nov 19th, 2019: D1 just interrupted my project asking to send notifications, causing Nanostudio 2 to crash and completely wipe out my project. I didn’t even have it in my project as an Audio Unit! I guess having it on my iPad is dangerous.

I see you released a new update claiming audio unit stability, but it still isn’t working. I give you credit for trying, and maybe one of these days it will work. I bought both the apps claiming AU3 functionality, only to be sadly disappointed. They are nice as standalone apps, but this is not why I purchased these. You cannot in good faith claim that these are functional when they are not. Unfortunately you’ve already made these claims, and there’s only one direction to take, and that’s to quickly resolve the issues. Musicians are very forgiving, and like myself are enamored by the amazing apps you’ve developed. Looking forward to the day that I read all issues resolved. Then I’ll be back to download again and to leave a better review. Good luck!
Iphone BabyTrin,
VERY GOOD BUT ALSO VERT BAD
This D1 Is amazing but like most things created from open source, it's prone to errors. Maybe you have to many cooks in the kitchen and some of them need to be let go!
I'm using this with Beatmaker 3 and for some strange reason it changes sounds out of nowhere!
There are no program change messages being sent. So I have no idea what is going on. Help someone please help. I paid for the instrument thinking the free version was buggy because it was free, then I read after buying it that it was created via open source. Ahem. What is this a keyboard for Linux.
I personally hate open source software due to the fact that it remains always in a " beta " form. I hope they can make the next update very soon but I will not be paying for this again in fear that it will remain broken.
Lennbob,
RECORD button, por favor
So far I’m really enjoying all the extra noises I can make with this app. (Back in the day I owned a Kong 01/W.) But it really needs a RECORD button like the SynthOne app has—saving patches is less of a priority for me than is the quickest way to record the audio output. I do a lot of improv that involves manipulating settings on the fly, and capturing the output in the moment is a lot easier than trying later to re-create sounds that may have been the result of numerous smaller choices along the way.

As long as I’m in wish-list territory, it would also be great to have the ability to select different scales, as in the SynthOne app. I get all sorts of interesting results by changing scales midstream; I miss that here.
parentini,
Incredible quality for an incredible price
This app is excellent in just about every way possible. Beautiful sound, great UI… very impressed by everything this company puts out. The only issue I’m running into with this app and others by this company is that it regularly crashes when connected to my MacBook Pro (M1) when midi is sent via Ableton to D1 while audio is also being output into Ableton. This is all happening via a single USB-C cable. It’s a pretty major issue for me, but I still love the app and I might have something wrong on my end so I don’t want that to be reflected in my star rating.
SuperMackMane,
Crash crazy
I love the sounds, and the ability to creat my on presets. But when using it an app like BeatMaker 3 or Cubasis 2, it crashes often while in the middle of finding the perfect sound for my beat or even just starting a beat. It will literally be the first Instrument that I’m attempting to use and it crashes. I have 2 other apps made by this company (Synth1 & FM Player). Both also have great sounds and usability, but crash often. I thought they crashed because they were free and I haven’t donated anything, but Digital D1, I paid for and experience the same issue. Even using it in AudioBus, it sometimes doesn’t open. When I finally get it to work, it’s because I have to power off my iPad and power it back on. ThAts a vibe killer..... I want to give it 5 stars, but the crashing makes it hard to fully enjoy it.
Chimona Chimea,
Great Synth by a Great Company
Not only is the synth itself really amazing, but it does a great job combining an old technology in a new way. Makes really great pads naturally but also can be used for some faster funky stuff too. The AudioKit team is very responsive to bug reports and is committed to fixing everything they can.

This is a great synth but also realize all the proceeds go to supporting the open source effort of AudioKit. They make free synths for everyone and they provide a free platform to help people make their own audio applications to their apps. I’d get the synth just to support that effort, but it also happens that this is a very nice one of a kind synth for iOS.
