SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
• Qualified Mac or Windows-based computer running any supported EUCON-enabled application and EuControl 2022.12.1 (NOTE: The free EUCON 2022.12.1 software must be downloaded from Avid and installed before using Avid Control)
• One of the following connections:
- Accessible wireless network (5 Ghz Wi-Fi network recommended), or
- Lightning-to-USB 3 Camera Adapter + USB 2-to-Ethernet Adapter to connect an Ethernet cable directly to iPad (be sure to disable Wi-Fi on your iPad when using this connection type)

I’ve been using the artist mix for about a year now and it’s awesome (when it’s able to connect). I haven’t been able to figure out how to setup the Avid control app. I’m sure it’s great, but I can’t connect. The instructions say to open the app and follow the instructions. I log in to my avid account, then nothing happens. There is very little information from Avid to help with setup. And their customer support is unavailable as it’s always been, or only for ‘annual contract’ subscribers. It’s a shame Avid isn’t very helpful to the people using their products, and annoying hat their ’developer responses’ here are snarky and defensive.

Used to work with 12.9” iPad Pro, now it’s not compatible??
I had the ability to control everything I needed for tracking in PT remotely from behind the drum kit or in the vocal booth, and then somewhere along the way I update PT to the next version (I have a perpetual license), and it suddenly doesn’t work with my 12.9” iPad Pro anymore?? And Avid admits it’s currently not compatible with the bigger iPad Pro (the flagship of the iPads)?? Why would you ever update a product in a way that would adversely affect or remove pre-existing functionality that many of us deem critical on a top-of-the-line device where it previously worked flawlessly?? Has anyone heard of regression testing over there?? What really stings though is that I’m paying Avid for these regular updates, and in return I’m being forced to take a step backwards due to either incompetence or a lack of understanding/caring about their customers’ needs. Truly disappointing, which is apparently becoming the norm at Avid these days.

Extremely Useful!
Pro Tools Control is a great extension to Pro Tools. I find it completely useful for remote mixing during a tracking session and of course when you’re in a full mixing session. The Softkeys are really handy shortcuts to widely used options and you have the ability to create your own Sofkeys based on existing EuCon commands or keyboard keystrokes as well.
Its setup is pretty simple. Download and Install EuControl from your avid account, Enable EuCon in Pro Tools under Peripherals/Network and then install and run Pro Tools Control on your iPad.
If you pair Pro Tools Control with the Pro Tools Dock you get a really nice tactile control surface.

I can’t work without it!
This app is getting better and better!
Not only it opens up a million different possibilities for mixing that I didn’t even know I had, but when I’m alone in the studio and need to track myself from the booth it’s really indispensable to control my computer. I just have to put my headphones on and control ProTools from my iPad like I was in the control room.
No more compromises or setting up the recording with 2 bars pre-roll to run to the booth! LOL!
The shortcuts are a real time saver and can take to different modes quickly while mixing.
All for free. An absolute no brainer.

Disappointing, not even worth a star
I have struggled with this product for years now, through all of the different updates, etc. I agree, it is powerful. But that only happens rarely, when it can actually connect to a PT session. I have had to actually speak with someone from Avid to get it to work after an update from either PT or this app. Now, Avid no longer supports calls with my annual PT subscription, so I can’t talk to anyone and there is always some sort of issue. Yes, there is documentation, but I’d challenge anyone from Avid to explain where the actual know-how needed to connect PT and an iPad is covered. Let alone the lack of help needed to troubleshoot this thing. This product should be robust and it just is not.

Ingenious app. Using several versions on multiple setups, combined both with an Artist Mix and standalone. Ability to customize soft keys greatly speeds up my workflow. It can work in the background, enabling control of ProTools even when on other apps like email or a web browser. Easy to set up in EU Control.
Only WISH is for a tab that reveals large transport controls. Transport functions now are only on small buttons at the bottom of the screen, easy to misfire when trying to use this app to start or stop ProTools.

Developer responded to my question! Thank you! I have updated this review since the last couple updates to the Control app. It performs very well. I had purchased an Avid S1 when it released, and in combination with the app, it is a blissful and elegant experience. I primarily use Pro Tools, but it also works quite well with Logic Pro x.
Previous Review/Question: Is there a way to not have the app disconnect/go blank when Pro Tools is in the background? I jump between UA Console and Pro Tools, and the position in the mixer is reset in the Control app.

EDIT: Amazing on 5G! OLD: Fickle connection makes good idea bad
EDIT: Turns out I needed to RTFM. In the fine print it states that using a 5G network is far superior, and I agree. Once I switched, every connectivity issue I had was gone and I was left with just a really great app. The EUCON soft key software needs attention as it doesn’t have simple stuff like “copy soft key” for building your own pages but that’s a minor slowdown.
OLD: When it connects, I love it. But it can take so many hoops to make it connect that it’s near unusable. At this point it just slows me down.

When will the glitch be gone and connectivity be restored?
I have updated to the latest Pro Tools ultimate, EuControl, and PT Control on my all Mac system. I have spent thousands on Avid products. I am also the equipment specialist at a large university and I am also an Avid certified instructor and currently getting a Masters Degree in Sound Design. I am wanting to teach my class the versatility of Avid but, I can’t get the pt control to operate properly with you eucontrol. It is glitching in and out and will work for a moment and then stop. All while showing it is connected. I caved Avid and Avid blamed Mac and Mac said Avid Needs to “catch up”. I personally agree, Avid has my support for the quality that can be delivered, when it is working.

Complete Waste Of Time!
I never write reviews, but I felt it necessary to warn others before they fall down the same rabbit hole that I did attempting to make this app work. I should have listened to the other terrible reviews. Instead, I just wasted seven hours trying to make this horrible app work. First, on my 12” IPad Pro, then on my older IPad Air 2. After about two hours I read that the IPad Pro is not supported - amazing, considering how long it’s been out. I viewed a demo marketing piece that showed the app running on the IPad Pro, yet the latest “how to” propaganda from Avid states that the IPad Pro is not supported. I could not even get the Eucon icon too appear on my IMac. Don’t bother until Avid fixes this mess.
