Description

Backgammon is a classic board game popular with many players around the world. Whether you are a beginner or expert player, this game may help to exercise your mind or relax after a long day at work. Enjoy classic gameplay right on your device, train your brain and have fun!

How to play Backgammon:

- Classic Backgammon is a logic puzzle for two, played on a board of 24 triangles called points.
- Each player sits on the opposite sides of the board with 15 checkers, black or white.
- To start the game, players take turns and roll the dice.
- Players move pieces based on the numbers rolled. For example, if you roll 2 and 5, you can move one piece 2 points and another one 5 points. Alternatively, you can move one piece 7 points.
- Once all of a player’s pieces are in his or her “home”, that player may begin removing pieces off of the board.
- A player wins once all of their pieces are removed from the board.

A few more things to know:

- Rolling two of the same number allows you to move 4 times. For example, for a roll of 4 and 4, you can move a total of 16 points, although each piece must move 4 points at a time.
- You cannot move a piece to a point that is occupied by 2 or more of your opponent’s pieces
- If you move a piece to a point with only 1 of your opponent’s pieces on it, the rival’s piece is removed from the board and placed on the middle partition.

Simple and intuitive design lets you focus on the gameplay and master your skills. Start your first round, challenge yourself and keep your brain active!

Bambam 1958,
Program
At first the game was working well. However, around the 10th game I started to notice how the programming started giving doubles more in favor for the computer while my numbers were smaller amounts. It was to a point that I would say out loud that should be getting a large double to catch up in order to show it to win. I had three games in a row that I lost. I don’t mind losing cause then I can try use a different strategy to win. I moved on to another free version of the game with another company.
Korhg,
Bad design, silly AI
If you enjoy the challenge of playing tic tac toe against a toddler while always going first, this is your game.
These comments all involve playing with the doubling cube being on (the only interesting way to play backgammon).
First, the game doesn’t follow the rules in that it allows the human player to see his roll prior to deciding to double. This is unfair to the AI player. At the same time, if the AI doubles the human player, the screen that pops up totally obscures the entire board so you better have a photographic memory to decide whether your position is such that you should accept.
The above problems seem to be one’s pretty easy for the developer to fix. The AI (or lack of it) is not so easy to fix. It simply plays in such a way that, while it follows the basic rules, does so in no discernibly strategic way. With some of its pieces still on the outer board but past all my pieces, as I am bearing off, the AI will allow itself to be gammoned by using its moves for pieces in its home board instead of bringing the outer pieces home. It appears to operate entirely according to pip count as it will take a double even while blocked from reentering the board just because it’s pip count is ten ahead. Under some circumstances it will even accept doubling at the end when it is mathematically impossible for it to win.
So if it’s really important to always win, this is the backgammon game for you.
Lovetoplaygames2,
Definitely rigged..
UPDATE…. This game still shows favorably toward the computer… obviously others feel the exact same way… if it is designed to be the luck of the roll , then I am terribly unlucky… Quite frankly, it is unreal how unfair it appears 90% of the time…. I do not know enough of the behind the scenes…algorithms or whatever you call it… BUT something is not right! I have played tooooo many times for a very long time and everything is the same…almost predictable! Just saying…just a shame….😞

I have been playing for a while now. Although I do get doubles from time to time, it seems very rigged for the computer to always get 2 to 3 sets of doubles in the final quadrant. I have given it enough time to see if it equals out or balances out and it doesn’t. I have tried different ways of playing each game after I lose and inevitably the computer gives my opponent two and three sets of doubles in a row. It’s gotten to the point where it’s not fun anymore. I’m not a sore loser. But accept the challenge after I do lose to replay and try a different strategy. Time to move on…

The game makes bad moves consistently. When it moves one token using the count from both dice it doesn’t go after my exposed token. If it rolls 3 5 and playing 5 then 3 would put my token on the bar it will play 3 than 5. The token ends up in the same place but I don’t lose my token. If at the end of a game and we both have two tokens left with the game having the next roll and tokens on the 1 and 2 points and then rolls 1 2 it plays the 1 and then the 2. When the game doubles I can’t see the roll or board to make a good decision to accept. I question the dice rolls. I have played hundreds of games and never had doubles more than twice that took tokens off board but the game gets doubles more often and gets three and four doubles that remove tokens. One thing it does that gives me an advantage is that it lets me double when there is no way I can lose. I am new to backgammon so I shouldn’t win 75% of the time.
Mair60,
Seems Fixed to me
When I first started playing this app I was winning my fair share of games After about a week of playing the AI gets on average 8 to 10 doubles per game. I could be ahead and then it starts rolling the doubles. So frustrating. While I like the style and looks of this game over others I’ve tried I am considering deleting the app I just have to find one that plays the same and same game options that isn’t rigged to roll doubles
Like I said, in the beginning it will be fair. You’ll both hit a double the same amount of times. Maybe 2 to 4 times during each game. After you get hooked, you’ll see the AI hitting doubles around 8 times during the game. Especially when you’re near the end. You’ll have double pips off the board and it will jump right ahead of you to win the game.
So not fair.
I hope they can solve this problem. 🤞
Reykalinzoo,
Rigged
I never fails, the computer almost always gets the dice roll. Always gets multiple multiple doubles. It lets you win a few times then bam it totally slaughters you. I can put multiple guys in the hole but the computer still wins. If you complain like I did about the doubles well, I don’t know how much I believe in coincidences like this. But not only do I rarely get doubles or the dice toss, I seem to be getting all low rolls. 2,3,1’s makes it impossible to win. I will keep the game because I like to play. But I may need an anxiety pill now and again.

My addition to this game. After play for even more time. I believe this game is completely rigged. The computer almost always goes first. It always gets lots of doubles and even if your ahead and should win the computer will get more doubles and wins. I’ve deleted the game at this point. It hard to okay when you know it’s rigged. Good riddance to this game.
Cactusprick,
Some good; mostly bad
As other reviewers have noted, it’s a fairly clean app and the dice seem to be honest, but there are at least two major flaws. First and foremost, the ads are intolerable. This app allows ads that don’t allow you to skip them, wasting a ton of time. That in itself warrants that you look elsewhere. Second, the app’s logic is severely flawed. As just one example, I can ask to double the game when I have only one checker on the last bar (so I am out with any roll) and the computer has 10 checkers remaining, and it will ACCEPT the double. With zero chance of winning. Other examples are that it won’t take my checker when doing so would seal the game. Serious logic flaws on the computer side, making it miss less fun and challenging.

Finally a Decent Backgammon !
PROS:
Nice clean interface.
Dice appear to be quite random.
Ability to set match length.
Play with doubling cube.
Auto bear off works well.
Number of ads for a free app is ok.
( About one per game, w fast forward option )
The daily challenge is interesting.

CONS:
Shows your roll then gives you option to double.
( That’s not how backgammon is played )
AI has no skill options.
Default (only) AI skill level is medium at best.
( A good player will win every match )
No multiplayer option.

Developer - Fixing the roll before doubling option should be pretty straightforward and will correct a significant flaw. AI plays VERY conservatively. You need to increase its aggression on sending tokens to the bar. Skilled players will almost always hit when they can, even if it leaves a token open. The AI almost always prioritizes covering up. Hence, the almost always losing. Great job on the random dice. I just don’t get developers who slant the game to the AI. Inferiority complex of some sort ?
Jw2k_fr,
Not bad but needs basic improvements…
In brief - the advertising is reasonable - not too intrusive, and reasonably easy to skip.

The AI isn’t the smartest, and could use tweaking. It’s not always the most efficient when bearing off and sometimes it passes up on knocking player tiles off when they would lose very little. Maybe an ‘aggresiveness’ setting might be useful?

However, by far the biggest negative, for me, is the fact that the board doesn’t alternate light and dark spaces - it makes it WAY more difficult to see where you’re moving to. EVERY single other backgammon board I’ve seen or played on has this feature. This would be a simple change and worth a star in my book.

Otherwise, I like it. The preset challenges are a nice, unique variation, will interested to see how those go.

My overall rating would be about 3.5 stars, but 4 stars would currently be more than I would feel is properly representative. Here’s hoping they can make some basic tweaks.

Laughable
The game is heavily skewed to favor the computer. It almost always rolls the correct number to keep from leaving any pieces exposed. If you do land on the computers piece it will ALWAYS roll the right number to land on your piece. The computer rolled double sixes 4 times in a row while I rolled a one on one die about 12 times in a row (usually with a 2 or 3 to go with it). If you are ahead the computer will roll high number doubles multiple times.

The best part is that the developer responds to every review saying the game is fair. They think we’re all too stupid to understand what’s happening even though we see it with our own eyes.

You’d think they’d want to keep players instead of driving them away.
